As I was watching Family Guy last night, I saw a commercial about orange juice helping protect people from the flu...  I am calm as can be, since my breakfast consists of orange juice and Marlboro Ultra Lights each morning...

It has killed 12 people and I should be worried why? Even the most bottom-barrel of influenza kills more people in a month than this does in a lifetime.

Actually, there is a 'Norwegian Strand' that is especially deadly...  Aside from the foaming at the mouth and loss of limbs like leprosy, this unique strand makes it's victims die hard conservatives and instantly makes the victim a fan of George W. Bush...  Hey, aren't you Norwegian dude?  lol

There making an issue out of it because the Avian Flu (which only affects birds) is starting to mutate to be able to infect humans.

This strand is deadly because we have no flu "vaccine" for it. It is so new and alien that we have no antiboties. Just this month, the Center for Disease Control was able to map out the virus.

This year's flu is expected to kill 120 million people this year. (which is a very high number for influenza).
Avian Flu is so dangerous because not only is the very young, asthmatic, or very old are in danger...but anyone is now.

you're not suppose to get the flu twice a year. If this is true, then your immune system is very weak (or almost non existant)

It's like SARS, mostly hype, how many people died from SARS? 4 was it? The bird flu will mostly infect the birds, no more piegons to throw pennies at on slow days.

    No.

774 SARS related death in the US alone.

And if you got SARS you have a 10% chance of dying from it

Has avian flu broken out in USA? I just thought it was Romania and Tyrkia. Most versions of it aren't dangerous for humans, but the H5N version of it is. But H5N isn't that dangerous either. Last year 120 people in Asia got it and 60 died. But what WHO fears is the H5N1 version of H5N. If a person who has influensa get's the H5N1 it will mutate into a "super virus" wich is capable of killing 120 million people. But it's not that likely to happen and it hasn't happened yet, but they THINK that it might happen. So I don't see what you should fear yet.

Note: You don't have special antibiotics. There are 2 types of antibiotics that are used for everything. If those don't work then the virus is immune to antibiotics. So there is no thing like special antibiotics against a special virus.

I rather have the T-Virus than that bird flu...well I rather not have both of them. I don't understand, if people knew about that bird flu, why don't they be on the safe side and do somthing about it eariler? Or is this new?

And how are these birds getting to humans? Was they making the next Hitchcock film in New York?

I gotta read up on this.

    Oranges are for the emo.

    image

Last year they was worried about not having enough flu vaccine for everyone cause of low supply but, I never got myself a flu shot except when I was really young and it was for about 2 years. I remember it like it was yesterday, they'd stick me and I'd get a lollipop. The place was fluorescent lighted and had a pale green walls, I always felt like I was in a chalk board room or something.

They had all these weird instruments on the tables and I'd get a little bracelet for being such a good boy. They'd also take my blood with this little sticker thing. At first I didn't know what it looked like looked like a little toy gun too me so I was like cool then they stuck my finger and I got pissed lmao. Still got my lollipop even if I made a ruckus.

I don't know, about the avian flu virus but, if it's really as bad as they say it is. I guess I better start digging my grave and waiting for death too come.

Professor Hubert Farnsworth - That question is less stupid but, you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

  • cloudoffirecloudoffire Member Posts: 271

really you shouldnt be worried about getting sick with the avian flu or sars or anything like that because its really such a low chance of happeing. do you know how many poeple live in china? 160 is like what? .0000000160% of the entire population? So dont worry put down those gas masks theres nothing to worry about.

I thought there were all kinds of antibiotics when it comes to viruses...

I think your talking about penicillin and whatever da hell you call the other one...

But when it comes to viruses, vaccines or anitbodies (anti-biotics) are countless...

Wasn't that anti-bodies are broken up bits of the virus itself that is injected into the human body.

As dead and broken bits of a specific virus enters the body of a person.  The immune system in your body collects information on the specific dna strand of the virus. So that next time a virus of the same dna enters your body, your white-blood cells are aware of the virus and fight against it "immediately".

I thought the reason they give flu shots and anti-biotics is to prevent the virus in a body to multiply in case it is not fought off by your immune system.  White Blood cells, or your immune system don't reacte to newer viruses because they aren't recognized by your immune system.

Two way you develop anti-bodies in your body is...By evolution.  When you are exposed in an environment with a certain hazardous virus for many years, and your body has survived through it...because the immune system reacted to the life-threathing virus before you're DEAD.

Or by getting flu shots and etc...The dead and broken down virus and dna components are noticed by your immune system and that data rests in you till you're dead...So when you contract a virus that you already have had an anti-boitics for your immune system reacts to it fairly fast...and not untill it's too late and you're basically dead.

To recollect anyones memory...I'm sure they've taken alot of shots since they were a kid...some shots you need to take every some years...or some are permanent till you die...

The reason you take all these shots are because your body has no defense against newer, evolved and deadly viruses if you are contracted before given an anti-body.

I can tell you I still have that burn mark from the old-method hot-needle shot...

The reason the media is warning people is because you never know if there is a breakout...

One unknown virus that is contracted by one person in a populated environment can cause millions of deaths...untill quarantined. Why do you think they still talk about Small-Pox?

So if there is an outbreak of an unknown virus before a vaccine is created, alot of people will die...

If there's an outbreak of small-pox now...alot of people will die because they don't have anti-bodies for it...

The body will not recognize the virus and it will mulitply in your system...But for those lucky few 80+ year old people they might live...if they're healthy...

a simple flu...turning into an outbreak is not improbable...it's very possible...if there aren't any vaccines that were created for it...

The media only urges people to take them...but there aren't many is all they are saying...

But the fact is...people are far technologically advanced now, that there would not be an outbreak of a deadly virus.  To quarantine nowadays...would be like eating candy I presume...maybe alittle harder.

Even if there is only a small amount of a certain anti-biotic..all the government needs to do is quarantine the area...vaccinate few...most will probably die...but the viruse will be gone...and it'll be like nothing ever happened.  There's no need for an outbreak...especially in developped countires...most of the death tolls come from thrid-party nations.  Duh.
