I think they just lost alot of people.

Dont know but about other servers but.....

It's 12:45 here. On my main's server the Dantooine Mining Outpost is empty. One city I go to on Tatooine, I go to for food, has half the houses missing that were there yesterday and in the mall one player, a merchant, gave me 10 crates of mandalorian wine for free as he is pulling up his vendors and shutting down his mall. I went to several of the planets that have players on them at this time and searches for various professions that usually has a list show up. I found 1 or 2 at most for each one.

I really think people are leaving enmasse now. If the CU didnt get them, this is surely to hurt them.

This is whats going on in official forums, notice the complete lack of anyone agreeing with this "new game" bullsh*t from SOE?

Developer input on the forums concerning the upcoming changes? none.

But worse still.... MAJOR EXPANSION launched without anyone from SOE warning the players that they would be changing everything about the game in a few weeks time, when the NGE was beeing developed in secret for close to a freaking YEAR...

That is simply f*cked up, as in... shoving a football sideways up the communites *ss... especialy those of us who bought the f*ckinh 30$ expansion. ::::27::

I can't beleive I am gonna say this but I don't it at this point. If it wasn't for me being on station pass and totally into EQ II atm I would have already of dropped my subscription. I did drop a second account a month ago due to ToOW already.

I quit SWG about 2 months ago (after playing solidly since startup). Cancelled my second account too.

I have a Station Access account though, so my SWG subscription is still "active". I wonder how many of the 250K current "subscribers" are similar ghost accounts ?

Last week I was even thinking about giving SWG a look-in again, and now this bombshell ! This has to be SOE's alltime greatest move, lol. To develop a NEW version of SWG in secret, all the while duping the playerbase...

Then springing the release of the new game RIGHT AFTER an expension pack has been sold. Desperate attempt to hold on to those players who have just forked over $30 for the expansion ? Surely they will keep on playing to get their money's worth, not so ?

No rational person can tell me that a company would make a drastic (CU) change to a game, and then redesign the ENTIRE game 6 months later if that game was not in desperate trouble ?

Actually at this point I am considering dropping my All Access Pass and just paying the EQ II monthly just SO I can't be counted.

He's busy reading the $OE talking points memo... give him a sec.

i also realized why they didn't make this SWG2... They'd have to put new servers up and keep the old game running too.. not worth it.

Saw the exact same things happening when they released the CU, pretty sure it will go the same way. People will whine like fags like they do, some will try it and just hate it for the sake of hating it and others who give it a go may like it.

On paper it sounds ok, will be interesting to see how they manage to get fps combat running well on that engine, mass pvp was a bit of a killer on my fps before, playing a shooter with low fps is the worse.

Apart from the jedi starting prof and fixed classes everything seemed ok to me. I know a fair few people who played things like planetside/neocron and they want a decent fps based mmo, and I also know some current subscribers who are reasonably excited. I will at least give it a go to see how it plays before passing judgement.

Well I finally found a large group of players on my main's server. Having a sit in. Made the area so laggy it took me 5 minutes to load in.

Man this is not going over well at all.

Check this out, you can not only buy the new "NGE SWG" on Amazon, WalMart already hs pre-order boxes on the shelf!!!!  This literally means that the distributors and retail locations knew of the overhaul before the actual players did!  And they just released an expansion before the bomb was dropped yesterday!!!  This will undoubtably be the greatest SNAFU of any MMORPG of ALL TIME...  I hope MMORPG.COM covers this issue, as you won't see a mass uproar and mass exodus like this ever again...  As a non-SWG player, this whole CU2 thing makes me want to whip up some pocorn and watch how this unfolds...  Lawsuits are almost certain in this matter...

Only those who still foolishly believe that player outrage can stop anything the devs decide to do are the ones rallying against it.

They had bigger protests and cancellations over the CU and they ignored us. They already had this new version shipping to stores onthe 15th.

Don't hold your breath, I seriously doubt any fanboys anywhere in the world have anything good to say...  I honestly feel sorry for anyone having stuck out or defended the game, to have something you care so much about, be raped time and time again is flat our horrible...  I said it a while back in August:  SWG Dies in 1 Year...  I am practically already right as the SWG everyone has known through the years IS already dead...  It is just a matter of time now...  The backlash and exodus from this will consolidate servers within 3 months, and the plug will most likely be pulled in 6 months...  Hell, they canned the Japan operations already...

Lawsuits?  About what?  SOE has changed *their* game.  People bought into SWG without knowing what combat was like, or what anything was like for that matter.  The box had SWG written on it and pretty graphics, so that made it worth buying.  You can't sue an MMO company for making a change to a game.  The games change all the time.  If a lawsuit like that were to actually succeed, you would never see another small company make a MMO.  Who would want that kind of risk?  "Hmmm... Today we have to balance the classes.", "Screw that!  If we change the Warriors, they will sue!"

I see the changes having an impact, but I don't see the changes themselves as being negative.  I do know people will complain, and on an emotional level they probably have a right to complain.

I enjoy the fact they are making Jedi a class now.  However, I can see where the current Jedi would get upset due to the fact they had to work hard (in some cases) to get to where they are now.  I will probably make a character on a server with Jedi as a class, but I doubt I would make it my main.  I prefer the crafting classes.

It almost looks like an EQII-esque change.  It is my personal opinion, but I think I may actually like these changes and go back to playing some SWG.  IF SWG is having a problem with numbers, this is a really good move for players and SOE.  It allows them fresh face time and the ability to bring more players to populate the servers.

All this being said.... I really prefer a class or class / skill hybrid type system.  So this is fine with me.

Bait and Switch tactics are heavily scrutinized in the post Sarvanes/Oxley world...  Corporations (and Sony is a biggie) walk a very fine line these days, and if someone was so inclined, they could take this to court easily...  Would they win?  Maybe, but lawsuits are almost a shoo-in for something this huge, whether they win or not would be speculation...  Seriously, releasing a half-ass expansion for $30.00 then telling the entire SWG community that in less than two weeks they won't be able to play the expansion in the same fashion as it was sold only 2 short days after an expansion was released?  How could this be legal?  They would at least face legal reprimand for such horrible implementation of this...

And if enough people were so inclined, even if none of them won. Think of the publicity. Even if your proven innocent in the USA your still guilty in the eyes of the masses. Enough people pursue this and they could do serious harm to the company and its standing it had with gamer community at large.

I love the idea of the new changes. I have played the game on and off again since it was released. Finally, they are doing what I always wanted them to do.
    For instance:
    FPS like combat (fast paced)
    quest based
Jedi being a starting class and being balanced with everyone else

These are just a few of the many ideas that I like. With that being said, I am renewing my account and waiting to see what happens. I dont know if I will like the experience or not but on paper it sounds great. So add one to the list of coming back.

Most EULAs, and boxes, clearly state the gaming experience may change.  We all know they do change.  This is not a case of bait and switch at all.  The expansion or game on the box tells you of features, but no mechanics.  People didn't buy the game with the assumption they would have to work really hard to be a Jedi, or the assumption they would be able to go through multiple skill trees to get anywhere.  People bought this game because it was Star Wars, and that is all that was promised.  The game will still have classes and skills as it has always had.  They are just changing the mechanic and how they are implimented.  Yes, it is a big change, but no it isn't illegal.

The company can do a couple things when it comes to having a low subscription base (if this is the case).

    1.  Change the game to have a broader appeal and therefore gain more customers.
    2.  Shut down the game.

I have had a SWG account since beta, and these changes will not lose me.  I haven't played in a while, but it doesn't change the fact I know what it was like prior to these changes.

Anyway... I know there are people that will hate these changes and nobody will ever convince them they haven't been personally or financially slighted.  They are entitled to that feeling.  I am just saying the changes aren't outside the law.

Not surprised. No one cared for or liked the CU and those who play it tolerate it. This is what happens when yu put EQ2 people in charge. They dont have the capacity to think outside the MMO box.

All your points are very valid, and well put too...  It will literally come down to state regulations, but I seriously cannot see how none of this would be at least attempted to be brought into court.  Take this poor SWG subscriber, this is right from the General Discussion Board (which isn't exactly tinseltown atm), he makes a very compelling case for fraud...  Particularly with the marketing e-mails he received from SOE, please read below:

I just got of the phone with SOE Billing Support at 858-790-7827. They denied my request for a refund for my ToOW purchase (big suprise.) I asked to speak with the Billing Support manager and recieved his e-mail address, which I will share with you all, ltuttle@SOE.com. I have e-mailed the Billing Support Manager and requested a full refund, even though the CS rep I spoke with said that even he would be unable to refund my money. Should I not recieve a refund from SOE, my next step will be to contact the San Diego Better Business Bureau and file a complaint for consumer fraud. I will also be reporting SOE to my Credit Card company for consumer fraud, and requesting a charge back.

While I know there are those who will flame me for this, please understand I do not take this process lightly. I am giving them ample opportunity to refund my money, both by email request as well as by phone. Should they refuse, I will have no choice but to proceed in this fashion. Before you start spouting lines from the EULA, you need to understand some things. Last monday I recieved an e-mail about the upcoming Ranger revamp as well as the Squad Leader revamp, telling me how great the new features of these now-removed professions would be. I have recieved several "Last chance to pre-order!" e-mails from SOE before the deadline, and a few others since. What is stated in these e-mails is FALSE ADVERTISING. These features, even the professions, will be removed in less than two weeks. The advertised Ranger revamp will never see live servers.

The simple fact is they waited to inform the community of their plans until it was too late to refund your ToOW purchase. This is an attempt to defraud the customer base. The EULA will not protect them in this case, and it is common knowledge that most (say 75%) of EULAs do not hold up to legal scrutiny in any American Court of Law. While the game is porperty of SOE and LA, these practices ARE illegal, as any first-year business law student could tell you. To the nay-sayers who are saying cancel and get over it, well, I have canceled, but I will not pay for a product that was purchased under false pretenses. Deliberately leading someone to believe a falsehood in order to obtain money for a product is as illegal in my state, North Carolina, as it is in California, or Texas, or any other state in America.

Sony Online Entertainment is a large company with many high-priced lawyers, but most big businesses would rather settle than risk the bad publicity and a mark against them with the BBB. I am confident that after taking these actions, they WILL refund my money, if only to save their reputation. I suggest if you are as equally outraged as I am by these practices, I suggest you take similar steps to obtain a refund for your ToOW purchase. Subscription billing is another matter, and one which I do not believe we have a case against.
