When you say "Crafting should always be soloable..." if
you're talking about obtaining materials, well its not exactly unheard
of for some items to require rare or difficult to get materials that you
very well may have to pay someone more capable than yourself to obtain,
or have some help obtaining. Even in the real world, businesses rely on
other businesses to provide them with the materials and services they
need to continue productivity. It isnt something game designers just
decided to add to games as a way of digitally flipping off crafters.

As far as the actual process of crafting itself goes, while I've always
been an adventurer first, I enjoy my crafting as well in games that
offer it, and I'd have to say that there were several times where I
thought it would be really nice if there were certain recipes that
perhaps, due to their complexity, required more than one crafter to
create. It would be something new, and it would add a bit of a twist to
the same old tired crafting scheme we've grown used to. At least I think
    so.

That is part of the problem when you consider that Brad taste concord only with a tiny minority, it would be like if I would make a 100% GBT MMO.

See, Brad need to create a game he wanted to play, but he has to make sure his fun is not made at the expense of any major group of players, soloers and groupers are the two majority group and he shaft them both.  Raiding can't give the best grouping or soloing tools, a raider can't be equal when grouping, he has to be lacking until he earns his group advantages...and Brad could like that, it would not be his first pick, but he could like that.  But no, he take the easy path.

I disagree with Jorev about Tradeskilling enforcing and about EQ been fine up to PoP, EQ was fine pre-Kunark.  Then Johny lying skills (or Brad) explains the temporary boost before the inevitable decline.  Realizing you were pointless if you didn't raid take time, especially with all those lies and half-lies.

Tradeskills giving bonus inside of groups is not acceptable beyond a point, not anymore than raiding or PvP.  Someone who want to be a good grouper HAS TO GROUP!  Someone who want to be a good soloer has to solo!  The tradeskilling answer is inside the tradeskilling, not inside groups rewards.

again, there are plenty of small group and solo friendly games out there, why does vanguard have to be like that? there is never going to be a mmorpg, with a persistent world....that has only small group and solo play. and if i am proven wrong, bump this post and i will eat crow.

IMO, there should be content for soloers and small groups in mmorpg's but honestly, these companies want you to pay that $15 per month for years. that is why every mmorpg is a time sink, some more than others but it is true.

don't agree with me? well lets take a look at the most successful mmorpg wow, it is the most casual/solo friendly game out there(arguably). so what is the biggest problem people have with the game? one of them is a crappy community, but the other big one i see is lack of endgame content. that isn't just raid content that is small group and solo content.

the point I'm trying to make is how are you going to keep people interested in a game when all they do is solo or fight in small groups? how would that work in a mmorpg with a persistent world? how long would that hold people's interest?

i don't claim to be a know it all, i could be wrong but IMO it would not be smart to make a game like that. i would just make a game like gw or a rpg game that has online play like nwn or dungeon siege.

but the bottom line is vanguard will never be a casual/solo geared game, I'm sure it will have content for that type of gamer. but it will be made for heavy grouping so weather you like it or not does not matter, because there are plenty of people that will like it I'm sure.

Brad has stated this is his game. This is how he wants it, he won't change it to attract what is commonly called the "WoW Crowd". He said he would be happy with 100k subscribers. I don't have much fear that he will get more than that.
