Anarchy, when I read your posts on SWG I get that old Sesame Street song running through my head "One of these kids is doing his own thing, One of these kids is not the same..". Kudos to you for swimming against the tide when everyone else seems to be drowing in self pity. Have to admit, I'm enjoying post NGE SWG more than I expected to.
Anyway, have you reached CL30 yet? How are you finding it? Does life really end at 30 or are you finding more content?
Self pity? Nah. Like I said... I'm sort of glad they did the NGE because DAOC is so much better than SWG ever was now. I only read the SWG forums out of a sort of sick sense of curiosity...
Kinda like when there is a pile-up on the side of the road... you just HAVE to slow down to see what happened, even if you don't really want to.

If I went to a restauraunt and I ordered a $15 beer and they gave me half a glass I'd leave.
Which is exactly what I've done with SWG.
I'm tired of giving SOE and LucasArts the benefit of the doubt... and my wallet.
Not really, they gave you a full glass of beer and then everyone bitched that it was light beer. So they brought a Heineken. Then everyone bitched that this wasn't beery enough. So they brought over a Lowenbrau and then everyone said "This isn't the beer we paid for give us our damn light beer back!".
WAsn't this guy supposed to be a n00b? Why is he then commenting on how it used to be?
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

I dunno if I'd call Anarchy exactly a "noob" but he certainly isn't a "Vet". And, you are 100% absolutely correct. He has no clue "how it used to be". Especially since all the class forums were wiped out on the official boards
Bottom line: The vast majority of players enjoyed the old game but wanted minor changes. Nobody asked them to nuke the entire game in favor of a level grinder FPS piece of garbage. I guarantee THAT brain child came from LucasArts. SOE could have told them that FPS games don't do well in MMORPG industry... they already have a game that only has 50k players... and it's an FPS that's been out for over 2 years.
The only OTHER FPS MMO is WWII Online which has under 25K players and has been out over a year.

Not "Everyone" only SOME people complained. And SOE should have known better than to listen to a vocal minority. Also, ACCORDING TO SOE, they didn't listen to the PLAYERS for NGE they listened to some 3rd party company who held focus groups. Mostly with people who had LEFT the game.
Let's get this straight for once and for all. The only reason they had a focus group was because of the complainers.
And yes I love the game how it is. I'm CL27 and am still knee deep in content. When I'm not, I won't pay OR bitch. End of story.
I'm usually pretty respectful of everyone else's opinion. But that is the stupidest commentary I have ever read. You sir, have singlehandedly lowered the collective IQ of these forums by aprox. 10 points! "The only reason they had focus groups was because of the complainers"???? WTF???? You weren't even be here before these changes, so you don't get to make that kind of comment. But say you were. How exactly do you go from having a group of PAYING customers that are complaining about the product THEY ARE PAYING FOR, to saying, "to hell with them, they complain about it too much. let's just get another completely unrelated group and have them make the decisions on how to improve our product!"
And what exactly is your source anyway... Geez! next time you want to say something like that, think it over twice, then give it to someone else to think it over too!
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!

I'm sorry Anarchy but your analysis is flat out *WRONG*
The reason they had focus groups was because the game wasn't getting as many subscribers as they thought it would. No matter what they did they couldn't break the 300k user barrier on a game that they had projected over a million subscribers for.
THAT is why they had focus groups. Not because of the complaints on the message boards. Everyone on the boards was asking for changes to the EXISTING system. We all LOVED the existing system but wanted some tweaks to get rid of god mode and get jedi under control.
IF you had been around for the HUNDREDS of discussions you would know that at NO POINT did anyone EVER suggest trashing the 32 profession system OR the skill based Profession advancement. NEVER. What people were asking for can easily be boiled down to 4 basic wants of the playerbase:
1) Get rid of the need to have DOC buffs just to wear armor. Sub note: Make it so more types of armor were viable in combat. 2) Get rid of "God Mode" by tweaking down the DOC buffs. Since they'd no longer be needed just to wear armor this would be an additional GOOD THING so one person couldn't just stand at a full lair of savage quenkers and solo it. 3) Add more story driven content and quests. 4) Tone Down Jedi and/or Remove them.
There were other discussions about possible improvements/additions/fixes to various professions but nothing that would have required such a radical change to the game.
Oh there was one other group of whiners: Jedi who didn't like that they could be killed. Awwweeee.... poor guys.
I think it's GREAT that you are enjoying the game. But don't try to comment about stuff you WERE NOT AROUND FOR... You just make yourself look foolish. I actually think the NGE would be a decent game if they'd bothered to FINISH it before putting it live. And your innane arguement about SWG having never been 'finished' is just plain rediculous. At no point in it's history was it impossible to reach a fully finished template. NOW you can't even get to CL31.
Please don't make silly arguements based on pure optimism. The game is more unfinished NOW than it was in BETA.

Talk about getting your analysis wrong. I am CL 41 and I have been playing for 6 days.
Talk about getting your analysis wrong. I am CL 41 and I have been playing for 6 days. S
How many *hours*
Or do you mean 6 days of /played time? In which case the level grind in SWG is now worse than in EQ before they fixed the hell levels. We're talking about quest content, not grinding mobs. Of course you can grind mobs for xp. You always could. It just takes roughly 10-20x longer to do it that way now. The whole point of "NGE" was supposedly so we wouldn't have to go GRIND for XP anymore. That was one of the big "REASONS" that SOE tried to say they went with the NGE.
So please, tell me what quests you did to get from CL30 to CL41? Have they added some finally? Because I haven't heard of any.

Prolly 40 or 50 hours. I was grinding after 31. There are supposed to be higher level XP quests on the 13th I believe (Thats not gospel).

Based on how fast I got to CL21 I suspect the vast majority of those 50 hours were from 31 to 41 as well, no?
Mind you: 50 hours is 25 2 hour sessions. So for a casual gamer that would be 25 days of time to get to CL41. Or, roughly, 1 month, maybe 2 months if they don't play every day.
To get less than halfway to CL90. And each level requires more xp than the last to get. And the mobs never give more than 500 XP (1k now that they have 2x xp in place) Oh... wait... that's been in place since you ran out of quests. So you better double the time it took you to grind those 10 levels for mister 'average joe who doesn't get in on the double xp week'.
And, after CL30 it's all grinding right now. Which is specifically what they claimed the NGE was supposed to get rid of. "More star warsy feel"
Yah, I remember many images of luke sitting out on tatooine shooting womp rats for hours to raise his force skills. Oh wait... no I don't.

I like it ? You must be numb by the work you do or your upbringing ! Retail and Coathangers are my guess. NGE is not for the sane MMORPG player - whoever they are.
