Daoc vs Everquest

QbicQbic Member UncommonPosts: 35

Hi boys and girls,

I am quite new to mmorpg's and I finally decided to try one out.  I am not sure which one to pick though; it will be one of these 2: Daoc or Everquest.  Could someone please help me by pointing out what the major differences are between these 2 games.  I know that a lot of people rated both games but I could not really figure out which one stands for what.  Every tip/help is more than welcome.

Many thanks in advance.

P.S. I am aware that both games are around for a while but Horizons will be released the end of February the earliest (in Europe that is) and I do not want to wait that long  image

I have played both. EQ for 3ish or so years. I've played DAoC since august or so of this year.

The short short version: DAoC is EQ 1.5. It's better in on every level it counts. (although that doesn't mean DAoC is prefect) Except your EQ playing friends won't be around.

After 3 years of EQ 1st thing that jumped out at me about DAoC was how quickly things happen. manna regen, sta regen, getting groups, mobs have much lower HP. It doesn't take nearly as much time to do the same things it took in EQ.

Every class seems to be able to solo. Although some may need a little consideration to be sure of it. This is great since I can solo lfg until getting into a group... instead of just sitting around.  This also means I can play if I only have 20 minutes. I don't have to book a afternoon to play.

Dieing in DAoC doesn't mean a 3 hour panic corpse recovery.

DAoC has PvP. It's fun. But you don't have to PvP, with ToA there should be plenty of content to keep you busy for many, many months.

DAoC's alliance system cuts down on Uberguildism that plagues EQ's highend game... and turns EQ from a hobby into a career.

When 60 was the max level in EQ, it took me 84 played days to get there. It took me 14 played days to get to 50 in DAoC. Playing about 10-20 hours a week for both. How much do you like killing the same things over and over? This is a case where less is more.

EQ is a little more polished than DAoC. It has much more content but both games have plenty of it. More than users will occupy.

If you like Elitism and sitting around doing nothing. EQ is your game. If you don't play DAoC.

I would say if you want player vs player in a kingdom vs kingdom setting, then go with DAoC.  DAoC is a little newer then EQ also so its graphics are a bit more polished.

If your more interested in a detailed world, factions, great dungeons, some diversity in environments, cultures, and creatures, then EQ is in most respects a far better game.  EQ also has ten times the content of DAoC when it comes to PvE environments.  Where DAoC was fun for me for about 3 months, EQ kept me happy for almost 4 years.

If your interested in something a bit newer, Final Fantasy Online has just been released in the U.S. and is pretty good.  It might be a bit easier to get into then some of the older mmorpgs since there are so many new players exploring for the first time.  Interestingly enough the game is very much like EQ currently but has a major pvp element based on the 3 kingdoms being added that may alter this to be a hybrid of EQ and DAoC.

Couldn't say which one is better because i've only played DAoC. But if you want to know if DAoC is a good game then yes. People told me you would get bored after 2 weeks but i have only been into 1 realm and even in that realm i have barely done anything than what there is to offer so far.

I like this chap.First he notices that the topic been dealt with before and apologized and then asked for views rather then the usual people who spam like some spoilt brat.

Then he does what I tell everyone to do go try it yourself.

Excellent!Try the game and see it for yourself.

Everyone has their views.Like misti said FF XI is not bad it might be a game for her.I seen quite a few  people that quit SWG for FFXI already back proclaiming the game to be a worse disaster then SWG.Some have gone to FFXI and not come back so clearly having fun there.

It is not just FFXI or SWG its all mmorpg. They appeal to different people.

If you look at EB.com you will see an everlasting struggle between fanbois and trolls over FFXI,SWG,shadowbane, EQ and every game you can think.

So the right solution is always to be buy the games yourself and try it.So you lose $50 on a game I am sure we all played single mode games that we paid nearly the same or same and then tossed it out after less then 1 week.out after

eq will most likely keep you interested longer, for me it did. 3years vs. 5months(DAOC)

also, eq has better item database (more items and everyone looks different) which is fun. compared to daoc where everyone has same armor on.

the hats were a sad attempt on making something *Different*..i liked wiz hat tho, brought some roleplaying..or just made you look more like a wizard.
