i dunno probally becuz they want to keep the money and most mmorpgs start of small so they prob dont have enough. But still companies like everquest. I never saw the online adventures commercials i bet they had enough. Maybe its because most of this past users find out about the game and they get it and there are sites like this that talk about it.Last is tv shows talk about it i watch G4 alot thats how  i find out good mmorpgs

but if they had a few tv ads they would get some other console gamers interested into the mmo's and they would get more subscriptions.

Yes that is true but if you have a console why would you watch a tv? 8)

Do you have any idea what ad time costs? It's not free... it's about 350K to 1mill per 30 second ad. Even more if during a big show like "friends".

I'm sure they would love to place ads but most MMORPG's are small companies, they only make a few hundred K a year. VI has placed a few ads... but that money is generally better spent reinvesting into there company and making new or improving current projects. They do place ads in game magazines, where it will be most effective (seen by their target audience).

Yes, TV ads are very expensive and per-dollar do not have the results that targeted ad space on Internet sites (like this one) or magazines do (I used to buy gaming magazines just to look at all the full page glossy ads...it is a great way to find out what is coming up!).

In the TV world it is safe to say that 70% of your audience does not play video games of any kind (unless your space is during MTV or something).

I do remember seeing some ads on TV for The Sims Online, but they were short lived.

I have been seeing a lot of adds for medal of honor: rising sun lately.  But, that is an EA game and they have the dough to pay for it.  Forget EA though, they are just hurting everyone by not making their games playable online through xbox live.

Console games are Big business. Companies like Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft back them with billions in annual revenue.

Generally when a game is released they get a loan for a amount like 20 million that are to blow on advertising the game. Once it's gone it's gone, and hopefully they can make it back in sales. This is why you see a game ad each commercial break for a week, then never again.

MMORPG's are a different beast. They appeal to a smaller demographic. It would be questionable how much a TV ad would increase sales. Unlike taking out a ad on this site, witch will easily triple their money back.

Sony played EQ online adventures for the ps2 on tv all the time.

We pc gamers watch less tv anywho, not a good place to get our attention right?

PC mags and Gamer websites reach out to the largest audiance of MMO players.

Personally i dont think advertising on tv would do much good for any mmo simply because most people dont watch tv if they have a console or pc. Yeah some people play and watch tv, but those people are focused on leveling up, or finishing a quest or trading or having a conversation with a friend.

Anyone with a gaming system of any kind is playing games, not watching tv. Unless you wanted to put an add on that digital cable channel about games. But then you would only have the people with digital cable.

Gaming mags, gaming sites etc are the best advertisment there is. I mean just look how many games are advertised on our lil corner of the web mmorpg.com. I bet just the game list alone have brought monster numbers of players to the game in the games list. image
