there are tons of female gamers in WoW. that is because WoW has a shitload of players. there's about 1 girl on ever 10 players, while in games like Ragnarok, there's 1 girl on every 3~5 players.

Where did you get those figures? Do you have a link and if that link is in your butt, NEVERMIND! I'll do without them! I just like knowing if people have real stats or just make them up.

... or then you live in the Nordic Countries where a good amount of gals are players. Fact is all the finnish women i know, do play computer games even if not necessarily wow in particular (about 50% also play wow).
I'm a female gamer. I have tried numerous times to get my girl friends into playing online games but most are not interested, those that did get hooked like the Sims Online or Kareoke Revolution and DDR(I'm a huge fan of DDR and Kareoke myself) more than games like EQ2 or SWG. Those that never grew up playing them (video games in general) seem to be the least interested in them. I grew up playing them. It was a natural transition to go from playing single player to online multi-player games.
So I think there are three things that keep more female gamers from playing. One they are not exposed to them at an early age. Second, most games are written with guys in mind, because most girls don't care for shoot-em-up type games(which explains why games like the Sims are big with female gamers). Third, not enough female developers and game designers in the business to help make games more female friendly.
What is so funny is, I met my husband at a lan party and we hit it off right away because of this, and now that we are married I play these games more than him. I have to beg him to try a new MMO with me. He still plays CSS and Halo/2 now and then, but no where near as much as he use to. He is way more into golf now than computer games.
Not being nasty or anything but it is most likely Guys! Cause Guys are allways into games! Girl's are mainly allways on Msn Messenger and doing there make up and going outside and most guys are into games...

you know in my other post about how your posts are 90% worthless?
Don't be mean, Ashkent. He's only 14. It's very likely he's never seen a girl up close yet. How long can he have even been playing games, anyway. Give the wee lad a break.

I've been a gamer forever. So I suppose I fit in with some of the other, long time gamer girls out there. While reading I really started to laugh...since some of the stereotypes the guys were placing on the girls were the same stereotypes I have always been placing on them guys. Then I realized that with all the crazy, silly, things that the um..."boys"...were saying perhaps my opinion of "male" gamers wasn't all wrong.
For me its all about the gameplay. I've tried lots of games online and offline. I like that human interaction. And you better believe that if I have the choice I play first as a male character...just in case it becomes incredibly obvious that the online environment is sexist and un-female-friendly. Which has happened more often than not.
Anyway, I put my count in for female gamer...and woohoo...16%!! Lets get some more girls clocked in.
The thing that keeps women away is mostly the meanspiritedness in the games.
In Sims there is nothing to compete for, its social and creative, lots of women play that game because there's no reason to be nasty. I don't think most women have it in them to be cut-throat, they want to be cooperative and social.
Eve-Online (my game) is a mixed bag for women. Yes its cut-throat and pvp and can be very meanspirited, but you can be competative in different ways, you don't have to go head to head with someone, you can support your corporation as a builder/industrialist or electronic warfare and be powerful in a more creative and social way, I think many women would be into that.
Anyway who cares.
It's not like playing video games is some kind of "manly" activity. Its like playing with dolls on a computer screen with a mouse, I'm surprised there aren't more girls playing than boys.

You are a very bad man and if you were in my general vacinity, I would run away! Fast!
Mean-spritness is a big turn off for me, yes, but I've also learned to ignore much of it. I played Shadowbane both in beta and early release (I very much enjoy PvP) and only left due to technical issues. I also played the original Lineage ages ago for about a year... I can't begin to tell you about the amount of nasty talk I encountered in both games. So many people take it all so personally... it is rather scary when you think about it.
I play for fun, though, whether it's PvP or not. My humour is good enough to compensate for those who lack one at all, I think. Whether I'm being silly or sarcastic, the one thing I always am is happy while I play my games. If I'm feeling angry or depressed I log off and lock myself in the loo and cry til my husband rushes out and buys me something purdy.

I've met quite a few women in the games. Would like to meet more for friendship or may be something more!
I'd made a double post.

No wonder my wife is finnish.
guess thats where i need to move to! lol
And in The Sims Online the Female to Male ratio is 3 to 2.
Edit- Ya go grinding on the pizza machine to get enough money to wallpaper your house a an Olivegreen with a red oak trim.
Edit Edit- I heard the woman to man ratio in nordic countries is like 5 to 1.

I find it best to assume everyones a guy.
That way no one gets annoyed.
I agree until the person suddenly says something like 'Gotta go hon. I need to put the dinner in the oven before the kids get home from school xxx."
Happened twice to me like that!

I just assume everyone is a woman until they prove otherwise. As far as I'm concerned, MMOs are just a great, big, virtual girl's night out.

There are no girls on the internet!
Seriously though, it's nice to see we have a few female posters.
Now with 57.3% more flames!
