Mean-spritness is a big turn off for me, yes, but I've also learned to ignore much of it. I played Shadowbane both in beta and early release (I very much enjoy PvP) and only left due to technical issues. I also played the original Lineage ages ago for about a year... I can't begin to tell you about the amount of nasty talk I encountered in both games. So many people take it all so personally... it is rather scary when you think about it.
I play for fun, though, whether it's PvP or not. My humour is good enough to compensate for those who lack one at all, I think. Whether I'm being silly or sarcastic, the one thing I always am is happy while I play my games. If I'm feeling angry or depressed I log off and lock myself in the loo and cry til my husband rushes out and buys me something purdy.
hmm...if you locked yourself in the loo (which i'm pretty sure is british for the bathroom) for a long time, especially if you didn't tell me why, i'd be running out to get you some ex-lax or something, lol.
Something about playing with a girl makes the game a hell of a lot more interesting. Not to mention I feel more heroic aggroing the Monster onto me so my female party member can escape.

Saw it on the news a few weeks ago, proven fact that men think 10% faster than women. Not smarter or anything, just think faster. Probably why guys are better at some video games.
I'm not sexist by the way, don't take that as an insult. I laugh when females get offended by that. Personally I don't see how it can be taken as an insult. I know lots of girls who are smarter than me, and even more who are smarter than my buddies I hang around with.
Look at it this way, we're faster to come up with stupid crap, and we're faster to react in video games. Remember this is an average so there are still quite a few females who can easily compete in video games and quite a few guys who are just completely lost.

It depends which country one is in.
In American culture, anyone who is into compuers is looked down on. It is not "cool" to know about computers. One is called names like "geek", "nerd", etc... Roughly 15% of gamers are female. Some of the best female gamers, are easily as good, and better than male gamers. I have met them in person, so I know it to be 100% true!
In Europe, they are more open-minded. Being into computers is seen as a good thing. A normal thing. Thus there are more females into computers. Roughly 30% of gamers are female.
Asia easily leads the world in number of female gamers. 50% to 60% of gamers are female. I have been to many, many, Asian PC Bangs and watch Asian female gamers play. They play every type of game from RPGs, to FPS, to MMORPGs. Many are as good, and better than male gamers. Some of the best counter-strike players are female. Same with many Diablo II players. Heck, I learned how to play counter-strike from a female gamer. She is one of the best counter-strike players in the Eastern USA. She wins many tournaments.
When the World Cyber Games was held in NYC a few years ago, there were many female gamers playing every single type of game. These were the best gamers on the entire planet. Many of the female gamers were Russian too. LOL. In my personal experiences, the best gamers at "Killer Instinct", and at "Gauntlet:Legends" (the newest release in which you can save your character), were female gamers. No male could come close to them. I saw this with my own eyes at various arcades I have gone to.
In the end, it has nothing at all to do with if one is male or female. The problem is the culture of whatever the country is.
Here is a NICE site about female gamers, by female gamers, for female gamers. Males are allowed to post LOL. Just show good manners like you would to your mother, sister, daughter, etc... All the articles, and reviews are by female gamers. There is a ton of info one can actually LEARN. Just be quiet, and read, read, study, and read!
