Which by the way I am for IF they believe it will make a better game. The "doomsday" scenarios are for Hero's Journey, not Simutronic's MUDs. Obviously the MUDs do okay with tiered pricing. That's not the point. People see a possible problem when you use the same pricing structure for a niche genre game with a small user-base that you use for a bigger budget graphical MMORPG with a very likely large user-base. It's a different market and the MMO gamers may not respond well to a pricing structure that was admittedly (by the GMs) instituted because their MUD player base was so small.
If Simutronics used a tiered pricing structure it would NOT be because it would make a better game. It would be because it would make more money.
    This is where I disagree....
If Simutronics makes their money based off of volume that is fine but remember... If you look at no other aspect of this but one... It would mean less income PER PERSON which if they are going to compensate their GM's means that there are LESS GM's PER PERSON. That will likely happen anyways when they move to a MMO but I personally would like HJ to have a lot of GM's. That gives a higher chance for each player to have GM interaction.
    Just my 2 cents.

I see your point. If tiered pricing is necessary for me to have more GM interaction even with a basic account, then I am all for it. However, if I would get the same or even less interaction (due to the platinum account holders needing more gm interaction) I obviously wouldn't like it :P

I was looking at the E3 demo video, and it looks amazing. There was 1 thing that didn't look right though. When the hero's were fighting they just stood around between attacks, there was no combat stance and no interaction between the mobs and the characters. Basically the animations looked a little wooden and the attacks didn't feel like they had any weight to them. It was if they were all standing around idly waiting for their chance to prod each other. I loved the combos, though it would be nice if they were a bit more fluid and the animations tied together better. I guess my question is have these animations been worked on further, are there a greater range of attacks/parrys/dodges which we haven't seen.

    Thanks :)

Sorry to get back on topic for a moment (image), but the tripped out Mage had a great question on another thread!!:

We've heard bits and pieces about quests being able to pull variables from your own personal Journey, such as a nemesis that you may encounter repeatedly. What other things can you tell us about the Journey System?

Well, after reading everything in Brodbanes inofficial FAQ I decided to translate it accurately into German (and I am working still on it). And after translating it I thought it would be a good idea to create a whole website in German about this wonderful MMORPG Project. And as you will see I am absolutely not a webdesigner. ;)
Would be nice if you visit my German Fanpage about Hero’s Journey (Currently the Homepage is designed for 1024 x 768. But I’ll work on that!) The newssystem is offline at the moment.
And now it's time to promote the page. ::::02::

    Hero's Journey Fanpage (German)

I talked to a lot of my MMORPG Friends and they didn’t know anything about Hero’s Journey. It’s quite unknown in this country and I only thought what a shame! All the years now we are looking for a MMORPG, which focus more on roleplaying and up to now Hero’s Journey is an auspicious game that seems to fire our imagination. What I am really missing at the moment are two things:
    - a brandnew official homepage
    - a better forum (To speak frankly, it confuses me a bit.)

At last I’ve got also two questions to you:

Are there any plans to hire Community Managers (like WoW for example) for non-english languages?

And: Will the soundfiles also localized into non-english languages?

For Germany I didn’t use the abbreviation HJ, because it reminds every German automatically of Hitlerjugend. And that would lead of course to some, really bad misunderstandings. (-> I play HJ...WTF?! ;) Instead I wrote almost everywhere HeJ.

    Greetings

Here's more of an explaination of it given by a few different people on Staff.. including the bossman.

Pay close attention to what Xadrian says, in effect, just because you start a new player doesn't mean that a quest that you've done will be the same as it was. That goes the same for other players that enter the quest as well.

About the home page... it's being worked on. :)

About the Forums, I can't say for sure but I believe some work will be done there as well. (But I can't confirm it 100%)

As for the first question, I've not been told if this will happen for sure yet or not. But I can confirm that we "DO" have gamemasters on staff whose primary languages are not english.

As for the sound files, there has been no word on it as of yet. (probably because It's not been asked  (before) As such, I can not comment on this... yet.

"As for the sound files, there has been no word on it as of yet. (probably because It's not been asked (before) As such, I can not comment on this... yet."

I asked this because I thought of a recent discussion in the official German DDO Forums. Some were angry because the sound files weren't localized. But Hero's Journey won't be released tomorrow (unfortunately, of course ::::39:: ). It would be fantastic to have localized sound files.

"About the Forums, I can't say for sure but I believe some work will be done there as well. (But I can't confirm it 100%)"

I've found a recent statement by HJ-Zee in the official forum where he spoke of "rumors" of redesigning the forum. Like many others I've some problems navigating through the play.net forums (but I am also a newbie).

PS: My website was bought up by Mystics. ::::02:: No, after a long, funny and interesting conversation with them, I decided to cooperate with them.

I think one of the guys with SIMU in their name mentioned something about how there were some features that they were going to change to the forums like adding search or something.

Funny as it sounds I went to try to find the thread on this but I couldn't search for it. :p But I hope they make a few changes to their forum, if not redesign something snazy for all the HJ fans that will be visiting in the future.

"I'm not sure what Mystics is exactly. Fill me in! You'll be working with them... how?"

Mystics is a German network of fanpages about MMORPGs. And I decided it would be better to cooperate with them, so I can focus more on my strengths than to work on a fanpage about Hero's Journey completely alone.

Ha, I'm reading the thread, scrolling down and WHOA! There's my sig. Coolness, that.

I already read the page from the Unofficial FAQ since I'm just that much into the idea of it. In my opinion CoH might have been a lot cooler if the had something similar. (Though you can now RP against your friend from CoV.)

I especially love the idea that you'll be questing with someone and then a "named" jumps out (maybe even says something) and one of your mates says, "Him again?!" Thus, your journeys have crossed paths. Cooler still is that monster developing a hate for you as well. Maybe he'll still only appear when you're grouped with that friend, but it would be nice if he addressed both of you. In CoH, I always loved seeing the enemies saying something like, "Curses! Captain Yellow is here," even if they were talking about someone else.

Here's to hoping that my question's included in the next Q&A. ::::28::

Oh, I have a question that hasn't been asked yet.

When players aren't asking them for quests, what sort of things will NPC's be doing? In most games, all NPC's stand in one place and stare blankly into the air in front of them until someone notices the ! above their head and goes to talk to them.

When we're walking through a town, will all NPC's behave in this way, or will they actually look alive, like they were doing something before we stopped them to talk? Will shopkeepers spend 24 hours every day standing motionless at the counter, or will they change shifts, go home, or restock their shelves? (An interesting idea of mine involved the NPC possibly sitting down or doing something in the back of the store, then noticing a player entering and moving to the counter to greet him.)

Also, when an NPC wants us to do something for them or needs help (has a quest) will they just place one of those !'s above their head and hope to their gods that someone will happen to notice and talk to them? (Interestingly, it's pretty common to see NPC's start by saying, "Oh, thank goodness you came when you did.") Or will they actually walk up to you and try to start a conversation? (Or at the very least, try to flag you down when they have a new quest or something.) Will it feel like they genuinely need (and want) our help?

It was stated somewhere that the NPCs would not be boring staring into space normal NPCs. That and they will be able to be taken control of by GMs to well.. make things a little more interesting.

I hope this wasn't already asked.. In reference to common areas that we are able to explore.. are those areas limited as far as where we can go? For example, in Guild Wars it drove me crazy how limited movement was within a zone. Kind of like invisible walls directing me the way they wanted me to go.

As I answered you in your other thread, HJ is going to be nothing like GW. I gave a much longer reply in the other thread, as did our german friend who gave the offical quote.

1 & 2) When all is said and done with NPC's, they will add to the nuiances of the enviroment. A lifeless NPC might as well be a rock. (Vague, I know). There is a limit as to what can be done and what can't be done though as with any game. FPS is always a factor when adding "any" new item or detail, even a simple little animation or a sound.

    3) As for what starts a quest, there are multiple different things that will, from you talking to an NPC all the way to an NPC hunting you down.

Div answered some of this, but I'm going to take it a step further.

I've never played GW and have no reference to this question so....

All MMORPG's have a "limit" as to where you can go.... all of them. Some are larger than others though (and most of that space is empty. /snore).

Will we have limits, yes. Will there be invisible walls that stop you from going into an area that looks like you should be able to? No.

If anything there will be cliffs or mountains or volcanos or landslides...etc..etc That stop you from advancing... not just force fields of aggravation. At least, I've not seen any :)

Yeah, my birthday is always my day too. I had to work on this last one however.. I was sad because I had plans for months.. (Was my 21st, and I decided to go work seasonal again at Sears..) but it just HAPPENED to fall on the day after Thanksgiving... So I worked it, and it ended up being almost funny because the entire system for Sears, in EVERY Sears store went down, and it was taking almost 20 - 30 minutes per customer for one item purchases.. The other cashier in the cashwrap with me, well we ended up doing each others breaks, and it was so slow that I was actually using two computers at once to ring up different customers, instead of making them wait just that much longer...

I always tried really hard to make everyone happy in line, even in stupidly hard circumstances like that.. It didn't ALWAYS work.. But I tried.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and happy birthday to your wifey.

Congratulations and best wishes to your wife, Royce. I think everyone here understands this and you are doing a great job here in the forum. ::::28:: You even answered to my strange questions.

This reminds me of World of Warcraft where the GM's are doing a terrible job (at least on the German servers). Don't get me wrong: It's the complete opposite of your work here. Some Players hang in the air due to a bug more than a complete day...you could see the gradual growth of their anger in the forum over the hours. It was like that: ::::37:: -> ::::27:: -> ::::26:: -> ::::25::! They never looked after the RP-Servers (some yelled soccer news in Ironforge), so many get used to talk ooc and in the end you had to apologise for doing roleplay in a common area (on a RP-Server)

Also it's for myself an indicator of passion. And this is a very good omen. Thank you for spending so much time with us and answering all our questions (even the strange ones) so patiently.

This time without a question: Amlaith.
