Assuming I can take you seriously. All the games you listed I had played... and I ponder how you had time to play them all to the high end. Had something to offer high end players. If your playing for the thrill of leveling, obviously that is going to stop once you hit max level.
Generally the high end content is dev made... so it's slow to make and conquered quickly. EQ is having this problem. Others Like DAoC and SB have RvR. Witch is fun, if your into it. Does it get old... yes it can. But so can anything you do over and over and over. It's up to Dev's to try to keep things interesting.. but it's a hard job to do. Try thinking up something that has never been done before? Or how to keep people playing once they have done that can be done.
Are games similar? Yes. Why does all PoP music sound the same? Because it sells. This is true of all commercial industries. If someone can succeed others will take that idea, refine it a little and repackage it. Welcome to the free market.
Player made content is the future of MMORPG's. I think going forward we'll start seeing allot more of it. It should lead to original concepts... but it will be accompanied by allot of really bad ones.

The whole point of this game is the story. There are no levels, there are no skills. The only thing that matters is the impact you make upon the world.
i dont get how you feel they are all the same some of which you mentions like uo are skill based, and games like ao are level based, in ao if you a lvl 10 you cant do anything to a lvl 100, but in uo if your a 1xgm you could rape a 7x+gm if your good enough, i made this pker a few years ago named Bloody Tampon (yea sick name but perfect for a pker) and i prly killed about 30 ppl with para, poison, and eb. and only a few of them i res killed and gangbanged with a group of ppl... god i miss the old days killing every we saw on east roads... we had so much loot from dumbasses entering our zone
The Pwnage of [GH] (Green Horde) will live on forever! Me (DarKMaN) , Nose Goblin , Jaxom007, Rebirth Of Cool, Kadga, Flesh, Jordan, and the other original members kicked so much ass between 98-00 GH was the largest war guild with the smallest ammount of members i think we maybe had 30 members and we wared with over 80 other guilds, but we still kicked ass in Yew,Brit,Bucs,Skara, and moonglow, i wish i still had some of my pics, cuz when gh started out all we had was a small brick house and its funny to see 10 ppl in a small house and outside like 40 ppl and 3 dragons and enough EVs to make you never want to see the color purple again.. damn i miss those days sorry for the story hehe
BTW these are the mmorpgs ive played: UO,AO,EQ,AC,ACII,DAoC,EA,EB,PS,EQOA:F, and enough beta tests to write a novel
Actually EQ fun starts at higher levels dunno how far you got to say there is nothing to do at higher levels in EQ.
If you complain about the time sink needed to achieve this yes but the content is there and most players will never run out of content in EQ .
As for player driven mmorpg many have tried it.
UO- player driven justice(old style UO) caused a grief land with nothing but keeping a few happy slaying every newbie that bought the game and forcing people in a lot of PvP situations .Heck i remember a time a miner/smith will have to sit hours waiting for his friends to log in just to get escort to mining areas.Better to watch paint dry then that.
SWG-player driven economy .players managed to kill the economy in a record time of a few months.
Problem is everyone is a genius in making mmorpg but once the companis start making the game and adjusting the world to fit player driven mmorpg they always seems to mess it up .
