Its only now just a game. It was far more than that for the last 2 years. Face it. You played back at launch for a few months. That's nice, but it doesn't give you a leg to stand on when comparing this game as it used to be. This game hasn't been like it used to be when you played since a couple weeks after you left. The game was always evolving and getting better. Then the CU hit and many left...amazingly, many returned. Was it because the CU was good? No, it was because the community they were apart of remained and they wanted to return to those they were friends with. The game evolved from "just a game" into a community of players that had truely created their own universe as the devs claimed from the beginning. When the NGE hit, the game changed in such a fashion that it could no longer support the communities that existed. Crafters where shoved to the back. Entertainers almost destroyed. With the community in shambles, many left to continue the community elsewhere...and so they have created new communities or simply replanted old ones. Will they return? Most will not. Because it is the community they played in that mattered. That community no longer exists. So, no..It was not just a game. For me and the hundreds of others on my server, it was our galaxy. Perhaps you will be able to form a new community. Good for you. I can only hope that one day you can understand that sometimes its not just a game. I hope that when that day arrives, its not as SOE is destroying it once again.
I hear ya. I understand. Several of the games I have played in the past developed amazing communities, where I forged friendships that extended into the "real world". We did things in the games that the designers never even thought about. We held events and formed guilds. Fought wars, made allainces, and at times felt each others pain or happiness when RL issues took the "Front stage", so to speak. Trust me I understand.
What I didn't like about the original game, never changed or became better. From release up until the NGE. I have always kept an eye on this title, because it was my biggest expectation in a game, and of course, my largest dissapointment. I saw so many CORE issues with every aspect of this game, that it was unplayable to me.
With the NGE, they addressed SOME of them. Not even close to all. But, enough to make me take another try. And I still have issues with this game, but they are finally moving a direction that suits my desires in a SWG mmorpg. And thats why I am giving it a try. Just that...nothing more, a try.
And so far I like what I see. A month from now I may drop it. If as I explore it, and they make changes, if I agree with those or not, and other concers...these factors will all play. As they have always played in every game I have ever played, as to if I keep playing or not.
Community is important to me. And a good one is a serious draw to a game for me. But, in the end. Its still just always a game. I have been in great communities that were destroyed by the mutation of a game into a new direction before. I said my goodbyes and left. If people take these games as serious as RL or as in some cases I have seen, more serious. They need to take a step back. I am not defending SOE, what they did to their loyal and patient playerbase was bull. But, its a game. I just can't stress that enough. No one died. Or they shouldn't have anyway. I hear people calling for the developers to be killed. I mean, what the hell? Isn't their enough violence in the world without killing people over a game....or shoes...or whatever else. People dying in internet cafes cause they dont eat, drink or sleep enough. WTH? Its a GAME.
Anyway, sorry, i'll get off my soapbox.
Maybe I just keep things simple and in perspective in my life. I play a game I like till I don't like it anymore. I don't go nuts when I don't like the game anymore for whatever reason I don't like it anymore. I say my peice and leave. And I don't try to ruin the game for others.
I have felt betrayed in the past by the change in "vision" by a company. Though, never has it been changed in quite the "shady" way that SOE did it. Which deserves some discussion, and even legal action, or due compensation to customers. Which in someways SOE did. But, its healthier for all to get over it and move on.
For SOE there is no going back. SWG has changed. No amount of bitching will ever change that. All the flamers are doing now, is ruining the game for those who now/still like the game. And thats just like a little kid who got hurt and now wants to hurt someone else, blindly, who had nothing to do with that person getting hurt. They just want someone, ANYONE, to feel some pain akin to their own.

I have to say, you're feeding them with that positive reinforcement. It is like complimenting Jeffrey Dahmer on his tablemanners. What they did was inexcusable. At this point, no matter HOW many patches come along, and how many bugs they fix (those are just NEW bugs, mind you... just the bugs to the NOOB areas. Noobies Uber Alles).. they don't make up for anything they did. Did they make the game better for ONE person who enjoyed it before? HELL no. We lost everything. Gameplay, Classes, Weapons worth a damn (all do the same damage.. you'd know if you had a combat log), everything that made the game unique. What did we get? NOTHING. Sure, the game is totally a better game at the noob end. That tutorial with Han Solo was impressive. Nice cohesive quests up the CL's...STILL doesn't mean they couldn't do that with the CU or pre-cu engine. So what have we REALLY gained as Vets? NOTHING. They could have made ALL the new quests work in the old system. THAT isn't the nge. The nge is the lousy clicky-combat. It is the fact that there's only 9 classes, you can never change (unless you got that ADK-throw-a-bone). And when you all boil it down.. to a Vet, you lost everything and GAINED NOTHING. You even lost the community. So quite frankly.. If I lost everything, $OE should too.
They shouldnt have, but they did. Just move on. Constantly whining about it wont make a difference.

wow this thread started out positive and then boom like a flood gate from hell opened up people came here and started informing others on the state of the game............honestly folks haven't we heard how great this game was before pre-cu and how the nge is going to kill the game the crap is old lets hear what others have to say about it other than negative crap............you had your say about a thousand times over its all starting to sound the same............let us who play it now be able to talk about it in one thread without hearing the anti-soe talk its getting boring now!!!

Its not the fact the the NGE is a bad game. Anyone that didnt have 2 years invested into the game and could get past the fact they everything you achieved in that 2 years is null and voild would probably really enjoy playing it. But when you spend 2 years of grinding exp to develop your character. Then 3 months after you have your characters maxed out and you are ready to PVP and have a grand time playing with what you have spent so much time creating, they rip it right from under your feet and take everything you have acheived away.
I dont know about you'll but when a friend walks up to you and kicks you in the nuts for no reason, i'll be dahmed if i'm going to pick my self up and give him a hung, hoping that he dont do it again.

I got the box from at luanch still. If i resub do I pretty much get the starter kit downloaded? I wasn't that crazy about SWG the first time around because of the lack of content. I kind of would just like to try it out in case the game does phase out

Yes, when you isntall and run the game it will automatically download the patch files, you don't need to buy anything extra. However, keep in mind that the game has growen by about 2gb or more from the original install, so depending on your connection speed it could take a little to download it all.
Please explain why 1/10th of the people are enjoying them selves in the game and having fun?

Do you by chance play a Ranged profession Post-NGE?
Did you grind a Jedi Pre-NGE?
Did you invest millions of in game currency on Skill-Tapes to enhance your character?
Did you invest millions of in game currency on RIS Armor for a Bounty Hunter?
Did you invest millions of in game currency on skill-tapes to enhance a crafting character?
Answer those questions honestly. And you have lost any of those Items/Time invested because of this NGE, and still tell me that you don't feel cheated and manipulated. If thats the chase then SOE is the company for you.
Given i'm keeping a close eye on SWG, hoping they make changes that can make me forget the time/effort i have lost. I hope the game lives on for a long time, because if it does i know i'll be back to enjoy it. But I just don't see how a community can take a shock like this and bounce back, perhaps they can pull enough players from there planned console release?
