Originally posted by kruell I find myself agreeing with making Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines into a mmorpg.. its awsome.. but as with everything nowdays, i don't think servers could handle bloodlines, seeing as its basically a FPS. But it would be great if it was possible.. same issue with morrowind.. :(:(:(
You might not could, or even should, take the game directly. But the Maquerade theme could still make a hell of a MMO, IMO. There is so much lore all ready written for it, that it just seems like a natural. Oh, and vampires/horror would be a whole new genre for MMO's, at least as far as I know.

And whatever happened to UO style in game items? I want to be able to drop litter on the ground and have it stay there forever or until someone picks it up. And I want to throw chairs off high buildings. And play basketball.

I think Valve ought to take the Half life universe into the MMO realm. This FPS business is pretty much played out for the series imo. They have a lot of creative talent, a universe to build on, and the money to do it right. I really think Valve needs to break away from the confines of this single player/ online death match kind of gameplay. Its been done to death, time to move on.
I would have to say the Star Ocean series. I've always thought that it would be a great mmorpg if done right. Other than that, the Legacy of Kain series.

Hell. Yes. I think Twilight War: After the Fall will be a good tester as to how Source can carry over to the MMO medium, so I think it'd be a good possibility that Valve could follow suit, expanding on the Engine etc.
It's been a few years since I played the game, but I can always remember being completely in love with the Arcanum universe (Sierra I believe). One of the only RPGs I stuck with for so long that I played it through three times. Would love to see this universe fleshed out into a 'next-gen' MMO setting. Ooooh I wants it!
Hell, I'd love to see a darker WoW in the form of Diablo Online (MMO, not Battlenet...), though I pressume that's been said a lot on other forums.
Fallout (Tactics for me), as said, could be good.
But yeah, definitely Arcanum!

That game was designed around one specific character whose story was unfolding. At the same time other tales were told, all centred on this character. Every character was designed to fill a specific role (ok, not all the NPCs...)
That magic will be lost in an MMORPG. And taking the gameplay without the storyline, wouldn't that just be AD&D online or something?
A Final Fantasy setting?
Well, we have one, but I don't suppose it is all that good... Haven't tried it. Have heard there is no PvP at all (cannot verify). While if you give the players a purpose, put them in a setting where it is part of the game that they are all on the same side, no PvP is generally a bad idea. At least, I don't like it.
But turn based PvP in a game that would otherwise be realtime? (You can't have several thousand players in ongoing turn based play, and it would feel wrong.)

Originally posted by Diross What single player game title has the best chance or should be made into a mmorpg and why??? I know a lot of single player titles do have online play, however the interaction between players us usually limited to only a handfull of grouping. I played BF1942 and it was fun, just wondered why with it's popularity and all it couldn't gone down the road to being a mmorpg.
If you want BF1942 as an MMO, you need to play WWIIOL. It's all there, and more. Some say, "Not the same thing," but there are technical limitations with transferring an FPS to MMO. Anyone who tries to do what CRS does will end up with something that looks a lot like what they have - or they'll close shop and give up in frustration.

You COULD ask, what game, (any type) should be made into a movie? and get the same answer.
None.
Because once you transfer from one format to the next, everything that made the game great in the former would be lost in the latter.
Planescape Torment. That game was such good fun!

I have to go with Planescape Torment and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

Can't we have all three as mmorpg?
If I had to choose it would most likely be between Vampire and Kotor, and I erh can't choose one of them.. they are both too good.

Dante is the coolest character ever. not to mention if you play the games there are so many demons and demon clans. that it would work..

but another game would be UT games there is so much story potential in those games if someone cared enough to bring it out......

I'd have to say the greatest RPG of all time just screams to be made into a mmorpg....
FALLOUT
Course it would have to be an R rated mmorpg which wouldnt fly well with the marketing boys.
