Well, according to Nancy MacIntyre from LA, it seems they expect to have a SWG 2 done by 2008 or 2009.  Found at this site here, http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/columns/video_games_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001698964 .  Seems it will be based on the new way to pay SOE is about to use for that one being released later this year.

"""""In fact, when it releases its next, unnamed MMOG at the end of 2006, gamers will play for free."""

Please tell me where it says "SWG2"???

BTW, this is old, old, old, news! Right before the old SWG forums got replaced by the new SWG forums, players caught wind of this mysterious new mmorpg being developed by SOE. Back then it had no name. Players were having fun coming up with a name for it while SOE still had no name. Your thread just has one new piece of news - that this mysterious mmorpg still has no name.

There will not be a SWG2 anytime soon, since the intended shelf life of a MMORPG is 5 years. SWG is roughly 3 years old right now. SWG2 would have had to have been started at the release of SWG. SWG will run its intended shelf life course by summertime 2008. That is the earliest SOE would even start to think about a SWG2.

Next, everything in SWG was fine and dandy, until LucasArts flubbed it up! By going around SOE and advertising SWG as another Jedi Outcast type game. LA then forced SOE to put in mass Jedi, starting with the Jedi Hologrind. The hardcore proof backing this all up is the fact that SWG was experiencing insane growth, exploding to 300k accounts in less than 6 months, with no end in sight....... until the Jedi Hologrind stopped SWG's insane growth dead in its tracks. After that it has been non-stop flubbing by LucasArts first, then SOE second.

Read the article a little further image  Here is a direct qoute from it:

"Not all games are set up around the buying and selling of items, which would make it very difficult to take a game like 'Star Wars Galaxies' and make that transition," she says. But, she adds, when "Star Wars Galaxies 2" is developed -- perhaps in 2008 or 2009 -- things will be different. "If we were starting to build 'Star Wars Galaxies' today, we would absolutely consider building it from the ground up with premium services."

OK, I stand corrected. I read it twice and still missed it LOL! Thank you for pointing out the exact location to me! image

My point still holds. She says "when", "perhaps", "if". All those words are not definats. They are all conjecture. Now, it IS intresting the earliest date of "perhaps" is 2008 - which is right on the mark of what I stated.  IF they do so do a SWG2,  it would release in roughly summertime 2013. THIS would be normal, and in line with mmorpg history. (EQ2 was released after EQ1 ran its intended shelf life. AC2 was released after AC1 ran its intended shelf life.) SWG2 starting developement in 2008 would be in line with waiting for SWG1 to run its intended shelf life.

I personally would deem a SWG2 a failure at the least, (aka never re-couping its investment money) and at the most... NEVER ever topping the record 330k accounts SWG1 peaked at.
