People saying how a "community" is lame, almost racist in origin.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

How so? If I were to say that there are a lot of Jerks in Cleveland, Ohio, would you call me a Racist? Or how about I instead target Bolder, Colorado? Would that be Racist?
There is a distinct difference between saying a Community (made up of many divergent peoples, presumably of many races, creeds, religions, and whatnot) is "lame", and saying the same thing about a particular Race. The difference is staggeringly large, so much so that I can't even understand how you came to this conclusion, metalcore.
Currently playing: LOTRO, Rift (beta) and WoW (on occasion)

I think, based on my interpretation, that the poster referred to the perception people make about some aspects of the community. You could call it stereotyping, which tends to happen a lot when dealing with different cultures and such. So in that respect, it can be similar to a racist view. It's not that, but I can see how it can come across as similar. Stating that all of one group is "lame" or whatever comes across to me as saying that all the people fo one culture are a certain way, which is just crazy talk.
I agree with you that labelling a community and racist remarks are different, but I think the idea is that someone is making a ggeneralization about our community in the game, which is in the same ballpark. But, thats just my opinion based on my own views. I don't know much about sociological stuff
The human brain works in funny ways because it tries to make sense of the world through limited information. What's more, we always tend to remember bad things and take good things for granted. If you meet a few jerks in a room, it is natural for the brain to think "jerks" when looking at the rest of the people there. We all know it's wrong, but we still form generalized perceptions about everything we see.
I completely understand the OP's feelings. There are very immature and rude players in WoW. However, there are very decent ones as well. Don't overlook the people that were nice to you, because that is proof that not everyone who plays WoW is a jerk.
Okay, well, he said that the WoW community was really bad, and as we can see from his sig, he played WoW quite a bit. He then went on to make a fool of himself (repeatedly, and very likely intentionally), thus proving his original point: the community in WoW was/is bad because of people like him.

When EQ was relatively new and the most popular mmorph on the market, I found a significant portion of the player community to be immature. That happens when you have a popular game being played by all sorts of people, both mature and immature. The higher the population density, the greater the likelyhood you will run into people that annoy you; kind of like real life.
