Interested in Lineage 2, worth trying?
Hi there, i was an hardcore WoW player but decided to leave, after playing my shaman for more than a year (since the launch date). I did something that most people do with their accounts that isn't legal, i guess you can figure out easily :P
I am highly interested by lineage 2 but still hesitating because this game is out for a good amount of time. I don't know if it's worth starting a new character (considering everyone is probably amazingly geared and skilled) and learning it. I heard about the game, people are saying it's all about grinding. How long does it take to get high level?
I am interested in buying lineage 2. I am a big PvP lover, which is mostly the main reason why i play mmorpgs. I love competition, i love population and i love drama 
I am hesitating with guild wars, daoc, lineage 2 and Vanguard. Should i just wait for Vanguard or give DAOC a shot?
What should i do?I would also like to have more informations about the game... the learning curve, the gameplay and everything else that would be nice.

Lineage 2 is pure drama. I've never been in a game where people
literrally hate each other and would gladly do some violent things
if they ever met each other. The power trips are oozing out of all
the major leading clans of the server. You are competing without a
doubt against ebayers, powerlevelers, and others that will step over
you without much regard, because simply they can. Whining gets you
no where in this game, its all within gameplay. The PVP is fun, depending
on which end of the arrow you just died from. If you are somewhat even
in terms of levels and numbers its okay, you'll have fun in PVP. The loss in
in PVP is pretty damn high. 1 - 4 hours of work can be litterally lost
within seconds due to a PK, training mobs, etc. If you come in this game
just don't cry, fight back even though you can't touch 75% of the people
playing. And unlike WoW, the forums are all clan politics, no bitching
is read by the GM's, they will gladly ban you from the game if you complain
about farmers, botters, and ebayers etc.
If you try it dive into forums and read evarything to learn how the game works because WoW is more fantasy then LinII there are things that are realy sweet about this game but you got to make it happen.
the game defintly has pvp, but in the low lvls it´s more player vs player and you wont relly join in on any Siege before you get to 40+ depends on the server tho and such

Clan: if your complety new to the game or came back, then i recommend you to search for a clan at very low lvls yes 20+ or even lower, so you always have it easier to find party´s in your own clan

When you hunt you shoulden´t spam Soulshots/SpirtShouts or potions all the time, in solo or in a party; it drain most off the adena you can earn (Adena is like gold in other games...) so you end up with some crappy gear in much higher lvl´s// you might see other player´s do it, in a party, or soloer´s but most wont mind if you tell em you cant afford it...
Quest: if your new every quest is almost worth it, the data about quests on lineage2 Fan site´s are mostly incorrect on the low lvl quests; cause they got boosted in rewards, its defeintly worth going for 1 time quests as a new player...Yes the game accetly have lots off quests...http://lineage.warcry.com/db/quests.php good info for classchanges quests, but not correct info always...
Grind: yes the game has a very very very long grind, and if you solo a lot, with newbie gear it seem even longer cause you be forcred to sit almost after each 5-10 mobs or something... but maybe solo is your thing, but with newbie gear its gonna lead to a lot off downtime, at low lvls, and wont change before you reach lvl 40 and depends on the class you choose at 40
Party: a party is always, nice but not all feel that way... if you at least get a good party set up with no lvl diffrence greater then 5 higher or lower on each player (Would Be Best for exp), they wont be as much downtime as soloing, and the exp is good enof cause Bonus % are Apllied to partys pr Group Member...aldo if you have clan members, being 10 lvls higher or less shoulden´t matter take em in or join your clan mate´s to have some fun a party is almost better then no party
Classes: well be 100% sure about the class you; pick already at lvl 20 theys your first class change quests witch basicly gives your fewer options at the lvl 40 class change quests...if your not sure what gear to go for, for your class, ask someone in your clan or read Forum´s...do not reroll (Dumping your first toon, stripping it and take all the gear), the game will just seem more endless, cause you start over...but yere if you wanna have sevral characters go ahead, it can be done many have more characters on they accounts...http://www.lineage2.com/guide/race_human_skill.html here you can see the skills for each class, anything else isent should be avoided, use the 2 Fan Sites;plz use search before posting a new topic theys sevreal, topics about each class you just have to find emwww.l2orphus.com Fan Sitewww.l2blah.com Fan Site

you migth be unlucky and run into someone 52+ charcater that had a bad day, and just goes on killing spree on everything, the best you can do: When you see Reds and your low lvl is either Run, or Stay Passive, if you start hunting a Red player you migth end up Dead in 1 hit; aldo its mostly esay to see what lvl´s Red´s are just check some Screen Shots off Grades D = 20-40// C 40-52// B 52-61// A 61-++ but some pkers just have noob gear on but they still 1 hit you depending on they lvl, and yours They is Arenas in Lineage2 with no death peantlys if you wanna pvp aginst a friend or something....
Where to Hunt: Lineage2 is a okay big World, and they´s sevral diffrent places to go to lvl up on same lvls... but mainly most Party Players, will gather up one place and hunt they over and over, but clans are always nice to have, if you wanna Hunt A specfic place to get a feeling of Vareity, when you hunt...
Death: dying as white, up to lvl 51 you lose around 8% exp pr death, aldo theys Rezecrutiers in the game Healer/buffers get lvl 10% rezecrution at 20 then again lvl 2 at 20% in lvl 30 (you get 20% restored back from the 8%) after 52 you should only lose 4% exp pr death... higher lvl Bishops, Elven Elders get higher %...upon Death as white, you have a chance off droping items inside your inventory, so always remember to stash em in the wharehouse; also goes for Equipped stuff some will give back the items, but still some wont
...upon Death as Red its complety a Diffrent story so be carefull...they´s also 100% Rez Scrolls for players but they cost around 1m, depends on the server you play onalso 100% Pet Rez Scrolls, that can only be used on Pets... Cost 6000 Ancient Adena...
Pets:Wolf´s are a great compainon if you wanna solo, but it needs gear like your own character... (on a side note the wolf guides can be Incorrect on the questions, whats right and false...)Hatcling´s well you can ride em if you can lvl em all the way to 55 but a hatcling will be time consuming and will cost a lot...
Bots: yes the games has Bots Sadly, most off em are Farmer Bots, they used a program Refared to as L2walker, once you played a little you quiclky notice the Diffrence between a botter and non botter...Bot Party´s useally stick to some placeses over and over; so just avoid thoes if you can...on a side note; if theys a whole Bot Train then flaggin on the Leader off the bots will make em to leave the room; (Somtimes) Killing the Leader bot will get the other Bot Follewers to log out
Servers: they´s really a Big Diffrence on the server you choose on Politics, such bla bla bla bla, witch clan Step´s on all or if they is no clan like that... i recommend you do a lot off Research about a server:P
Economy: Money is Adena in Lineage2, so 1k means 1000 Adena so 1kk means 1m adena... its very hard to earn adena in Lineage2 either Manor System is good;or you could lvl a Dwarf to 20 and go Artisian with him to sell D SoulShots if you can afford the Elecrtiry to have a comp up 24/7 to sell SS...theys also Ebay, well if you use it dont overdo it; well just dont www.l2wh.com great site with drop informations, and server prices... either you pay 10$ a year for membership or download they program and run it once in a while: its not a keylogger...
Raid Bosses = RB: They is a lot off Rb in lineage2 you can almost find a Rb at all lvls from 20 to 78...they fun to hunt, give good exp and drops; but reqiures 15 or a lot more players to kill. But if your 9 lvls and above you get Petrified and Silenced lvl 99, and no drops if the Raid boss gets killede, so remember to find out a Raidboss lvl before you gather a Group/s to kill it...
Scammers/ The Do and Dont´s1/ Always check prices for a item when you buy or trying to sell something to another player2/ Always remember to double check price to see if its really set right3/ You shoulden´t borrow your gear to anyone you dont know in Real Life they might run off with it4/ If you give your items to anyone, be sure to check they player name; that it is your right friend...5/ Never Hit anyone that asks for it, you be flagged and then liekly killede6/ Trainers, are high lvl players that try to train 20 or more mobs on to Party´s for they gear if anyone says RUN in your party, you better run theys no Survial chance aginst 20 mobs that suddenly flocks on you
Ive played L2 for well over a year. I can honestly say the game is great for beginners, PvP, people are good (so long as they are people, not bots).
1 good reason to start now is Chronicle 4.. the biggest update so far. Alot of people will be attracted to it and people who quit will soon rejoin.
1 bad reason that because so many people are coming back from games like WoW and Guild wars the servers are literally full of people. It can take maybe 10-20 mins to log on during high time.

1 excellent reason to start is because the game is always exspanding with new chronicles, there is supposably 11 chronicles altogether.
I onyl feel bored when im grinding. But if you find some good people to group with grinding is easy.
Clan wars are great. Those people who say clan politics only take place in the forum have never truely been in a REAL clan war.
Hope that helps. The game is simpler then most people think their isnt any need writing logn paragraphs and junk because the stuff you say arent important. The game is to be discovered and you must learn to play it. Otherwise youll fail because everyones experiences are different, even if chars look the same

You won't find any game out there with more cheaters then L2. And cheaters are reativly safe since NcSoft NA doesn't give a f about them. You see people running in big bot trains 24/7 for months, sitting afk in commercial farmer groups... you report them again and again and they stay. Some major alliances spend thousands of dollars to make sure they keep their castle or get another castle so it's also a game of "who has the biggest purse".
So if you really want to play L2 start to read the forums to find out what the servers are where cheating is not generally accepted (don't go Erica, it's accepted widely there). And don't check the official forums. Heavy censorship there. Check eg. l2blah, l2orphus or other non NcSoft moderated forums for information about what really happens.

Hey Swan, not trying to flame or anything but isn't that statement a bit far fetched? How and why would anyone pay thousands of dollars to "keep" a video game castle on a regular basis??? It doesn't make any sense.
Actually I thought NCSoft did a pretty good job at replying when I reported a few bots. I'm not sure where some of you guys are getting this "NCSoft allows bots" thing. If you report them, they will eventually look into it. They are not perfect but are far better then a lot of companies out there.
I have to agree that L2 has some of the boldest cheaters I have ever encountered. Because of that "bold" behavior I think it greatly exaggerates the problem to outsiders. The game itself is a very serious experience and not near as light hearted as say WoW. I blame that on the harsh economy. The game and the players do need a reality check at times. Its a game people, its not real money and items. Once I took the time to learn the economy, it wasn't much of a problem after that. It is time consuming and boring though. I completely disagree with a design feature that is deliberately placed to take up your time with a non - game enhancing chore. I understand the reasoning behind the harsh grind but the dull economy that one is all but required to master in order to get any really ingame money is just a waste of the players time.
NCSoft really needs to revisit the idea behind the economy. One of 2 things needs to be done. Either provide realist drop amounts and items so that a player can at least sustain himself hunting OR introduce auction houses to stabilize the economy and help eliminate scammers.

Plenty of people have been 3 day banned and perma banned for what NCSoft moderators call "Dooms Day" topics. You ever read FinalElf's of Bartz topic against the last stand on farmers? Oh that's right cause he got banned instantly with the highest possible offenses.

You can even go to their little "Suggestion" boards and suggest something so revolutionary and they will not care. There has not be a SINGLE feature within L2 that was added because of American L2 forums. None. Zip. Nada.

On a certain level you are probably correct. The North American/European players make up the smallest portion of players. (60-80,000 out of over 2 million ) So whats ever good enough for the main subscriber base (Asians) will be good enough for NA.
Thats just how busness works. They are not going to change the entire game because a few thousand NA players dont like something that is commonly accepted in Asia.
1.) First, MagitekCeles you are correct is some respects...but very wrong in others. NA doesn't have a development team so we can't really have much of what we want implemented. NA does send our suggestions to Korea though, and I myself can even see some suggested things comming into C4. Sure they probally were suggested by Koreans, but nonetheless it still has some of our complaints fixed even if it wasn't based on us.
I have read finalelf's post, and it was deleted (you can still find it someplaces...where ppl preserved it). finalelf still plays, he isn't banned. I think it was just his forum account, but he has another one that he posts on once and a while, probally with his prophet's account. What finalelf did was try to make a petition for people to sign against NCsoft, which is directly stated as against the forum's rules. You can complain all you want about bots, scammers, pks, game mechanics and whatnot, as long as you don't mention names and the worse thing that will happen is the thread will be locked and/or deleted.
L2blah is a forum that is totally under moderated. It seems like a bunch of dumbass 12 year-olds complaining and bitching at each other, and makes the L2 community seem like it is 90% Cheaters, Scammers, Botters, Ebayers, and what not. This is totally the wrong image of the majority of Lineage 2 Players.
I'm first gonna tell you about the things that make this game suck! But then I will tell you why I am still here.
2.) Now about the game! Yes there are botters. I can guarentee you that if you AFK bot to level you WILL be banned. Farmers are a bit tougher because there is usually someone there leading the group in shifts so they usually pass the GM's tests. Out of game L2Walker is detectable...BAN...this is usually used by chinese gold farmers because they transfer their adena and items to a 'clean' account so they don't care if they are banned in a few weeks, plus like I said they are watching out for the GMs 24/7. But a normal player will be banned! You could get a powerleveling service, but then your account is then comprimised and could be hacked and sold. The only bot programs players will usually use are a in game walker that shows the HP/MP of players, and will usually run a second account healer to duo box (don't need a bot to duo box BTW). This is still risky and bannable, but has a less chance of being banned. If you don't wanna be banned and just enjoy the game for what it is, don't do this dumb stuff and you will be ok! Just find friends and use actual skills to PvP, and don't be an asshat and cheat.
Now you can ebay adena from somewhere like ige.com, but this is against the rules...and usually looked down upon by the community...but you only have like a 3% chance of actually being banned by it. Just don't go crazy and buy 100Million adena. I am living proof that you don't have to ebay money though! So it may seem hard at first, but don't give up right away.
I have never ebayed because there still is that 3% chance! Plus I hate bots and don't like supporting them. These things are the only thing that make this game unfair and bad in my opinion. Granted every MMO has this...but it seems much larger in L2 because of it being so hard to get items, adena, and levels.
You may ask why I choose lineage 2 over other games then! I play it because it is a bit difficult. Not EVERYONE can get the best items and the highest levels (this includes me) so there is a sort of class system. There are Lords and their courts, and the peasants (me...for now). WoW everyone could be cap level, the only thing that was for dedicated players were legendary and epic items. It has some of the best people I have ever met in a MMO!
The graphics and character models are really good in my opinion. The land is huge and fun to explore, if you are into that sort of thing. The ambiant type music is really nice! The rush of open PvP. The forming of alliances and clans! The DRAMA!
Overall bots used to piss me off, because I knew for every bot train there was someone out there cheating to support them...I would always train, and PK bot groups...sometimes ending badly in my case. They started to waste my time because I would hunt them...but now I just ignore them. I have gotten a really bad rep with over 60% of the bots on my server...and I was tired of high level bot users comming and killing me. Now I actually try to be nice to them...and it is working much better! I just ask if I can have a hunting spot for a few hours and most of the time they give it to me!
I can level, have fun with my friends, and not waste my time fooling around with bots. If they are AFK...I report them and usually the go away!
I am too interested in playing Lineage 2 and got a few questions.
How often does someone encounter a griefer? Is there quite a few people who like to play the lore and not PK someone due to a great advantage? Are there way more people who out number the griefers?
Is there still a point and click movement? Like I want to move from point a to point b, instead of using W S A D, I have to click there on with my mouse?
If I died by a monster, do I still lose experience and an item? If I got a really expensivc really rare item, will it still drop?
How bad is the grind in lineage 2? How long does it, in hours, does it take someone to level once?
How is the community? Is there alot of mature, friendly folks would be willing to help and group with me? Are the servers avaliable for players in North America or is it worldwide?

I like to solo, could I get by in the game without doing any sieging of castles? Is there some guilds that are really big in sieging and some others that more big on hunting?
What is the best race or class for me to be a successful soloer?

either Silver ranger best archer solo or Necromancer/Spellhowler best mages soloer or any Summoner class have the essaiest time to solo off course other classes can do it to but they need good eqiutment then
If you´r red and have over 5 Pk´s yere you can drop your equipped weapon, also had a friend losing his Adena´s as Red in C1 tho hehe so might have been changed, but i asked a Gm once and he told me you could Drop eqipped weapon or even Adena´s without Karma. Aldo i surely hope he missundestood my question or was drunk, but 2 off my other friends told me they lost there eqiupped weapon´s once 1 off em in C2, and the other in C3...
sounds a bit werid still i died 500 times on a guard for fun just to see if i could drop it but nothing happen so i must have misunderstood it someway or the drop chance is like 0,000003% crap
There is a new post by a GM clarifying drops! You CANNOT drop equipped weapon with under 5PKs, also you can NEVER drop adena!
If you do drop your equipped weapon under 5pks, then you petition a GM and get it back...because it is a bug. You can drop unequipped weapons though!
Word of Advice, Don't go SUPER RED; esspecailly with expensive equipment that you are not prepaired to loose.
Oh, and yes! You can find PvE clans. No you never have to take a castle, but after playing for a while you probally will really want too...lol.
Best solo characters are either a Silver Ranger, Spellhowler, and I guess Necromancers are supposed to be pretty good. Soloing is fun, and definately great if you don't have much time to play, but I find partying is really fun, if you find a cool group!
When you start, money will be a big issue! Don't worry, just use your new player bonuses and trade for better armor and weapon before you hit level 25! I didn't get my D grade before level 35, but now money isn't such a big issue...you have to just learn the market and manor system...and you will be set.
Also some more advice, use the manor system right away...that way you can start selling mats to help you get D grade. Try to get cheap seeds with good returns, make sure you can sell the returns for much more than the seed prices. Varnish is usually a pretty good low level thing to farm and sell on the market from anywhere of 400-900 adena a peice depending on the server you pick.
well i asked another gm again i got the same respond, i guess they misunderstood me or something, but i checked up and 1 off my friends just had the weapon in his inventory, so my bad the other person i don´t really trust anyway so probly just a lie from her

People that say they've encountered griefers seldom are probably doing the griefing.
People that say there aren't that many botters, are probably botting.
I remember FinalElf's ban quite clearly, a member of my clan got slapped with a forum ban and a 3 day ban from the game a short while after.
The GM's are unhelpful. The playerbase is mostly China on the American servers.

I personally think so too, but there're a lot of cases on Erica where it happens. For example the D Team guys from G clan from the S alliance just bought 4 level 75 TH's from farmers, one of them to put him as a spy into the enemy alli so they can destroy the life crystals during siege.
They don't even argue about having them bought. The only thing they discuss with their enemies about is if they paid $350 or $500 per TH. As if it really would matter if you paid $1400 or $2000 for a few gaming chars. In another posting they annouced that they have a budget of around $20k for this year but that could also have been ment as a joke. Who really knows? But it's not impossible since they talk a lot of what they buy next ;P
Read L2Orphus/L2Blah forum and you see them posting a screenshot of it laughing about the guys that lost the castle because of it.
I only know of a few botters that got banned and they all were really afk botting on their own. I only know of a single person that got banned even though he was on the keyboard. And that because he totally overdid it. Decided to quit and went perma red with a bot train of 8 buffers/healers on him for weeks. He posted a screenshot of his conversation with a GM inside L2Walker (showing all names of the bots in his group) to show how useless GM checks on L2Walker bots are. He posted on the official forums that he started botting because everybody else did etc. After he did all that for some time, he finally got banned.
There're a lot ways to make the game more enjoyable like eg different server. A x1 PvE server with castle sieges but no open pvp/griefing for example would make many players happy, even casual players that only have 1-2h a day. Or a higher rate server (x3 or x4 would be enough for most players) for the pvp fans since that would improve the grind to pvp ratio a lot. Reduced losses would have the same effect.
But I guess that's what NcSoft expects the PS admins to do (;

Oh and BTW... L2blah.com doesn't show the real lineage 2 community. 90% are 16 year old scum bags that cheat, and say that they always bot. Sometimes they say they do and they don't even do it, they just like to get a rise out of people!
A max of 30% of the L2 community uses bots. 20% of that is Farmers. 7% is useing a bot for a healer while they play. 1% is for AFK botting. 2% Is usually for assistance in PvP or running their away stores! These aren't perfect estimations of course, these are just assumptions for how much I do see.
Most of the players in L2 are legit, and are proud of it. Most people that didn't like the grind or economy either quit all togeather or joined private servers.
This game is highly misunderstood, and that misunderstanding is what gives this game a low rating and whatnot. I fell for it one time, and quit for a little while becuase of it...but then I relaized that 99% of all MMOs are like this, and people have no clue what they are talking about.
Above half of the whole playerbase are pro-farmers. They are the only reason why this game (or more precisely its "economy") still survives. In Korea, the game is purely played for the reason of RMT and making money. Hardly anyone plays L2 for fun there, and for damn good reasons (and sheer boredom of earning close to 1 billion exp points in mindles pressing Fx keys for months/years is only one of many reasons).
The ridiculousy called C3 along with all the WSes/BHs nerfs that happened since C1 (that in pure theory were supposed to be responsible for player controlled economy) led to the utterely broken game L2 is now. This game IS designed for botting and pro-farming. Accidentaly or not - doesn't rreally matter. NC won't fix or even fart at the idea of fixing it, because they won't nuke their own profits. They will rather add rabbit ears and new landmass. And play dumb PR in very rare interviews.
As for NC's department in NA, there's a saying, that they can't go to bathroom if NCKorea doesn't allow it. Sure it's just a saying, but damn close to what they really are or aren't allowed to do.
If someone is interested in old finalelf's rant, some png'ed forums posts (unfortunately they have to be preserved in this way, as forum is set up to nuke every thread with the last reply older than 6 months), articles about L2, my list of what's utterely screwed in this game, and few other things, check the previous link - particulary people interested in playing it for the first time, as mindless, artifically lengthened grind and cute graphics - don't make the game a good one (not for me at least),

And the most sad thing is - L2 could be an excellent game, as the fixes (along with brutally needed improvements in quite many cases) could be done in few months. And should be the priority instead of adding rabbit ears, cat ears, or new grind layer called fishing.
