I would like to point out that in this picture there are a couple players who, like me, have subscriptions to the game until the summer prepaid.  We do not play, but log in from time to time.  As a note, Ackire is one of the once foremost Armorsmiths on Chilastra.  He does play from time to time but scrapped the game, like so many, when NGE came out.  To his credit he has TRIED to play but now waits until his subscription runs out.  If you look at his conversation, he is discussing another game, one with "summoners".  Not sure who or what game that is, but clearly SWG is not the topic.  The picture becomes more depressing, but as a former Chilastra Jedi, and everything else, I leave that to your imagination.  The city IS dead even for crappy Chilastras standards.

You've been very good AA!!!   image   And I'll admit I didn't scroll at first.  But let's be honest about this.  I can understan that a newcommer, someone that came after the CU might see 32 people in Theed and think it's packed or "not dead" as Obraik says.  But for someone who has been here as long as I have, as Obraik has and others, you might call it dead if there was 32 people in the Theed cantina alone!  And he keeps saying that populations have been like that since JTL, which is plain ol' foolishness.  JTL was the best expansion that SWG had!  If he believes that, he should just take a look at mmorpgchart.com to see that the subscriptions were pretty much stable up to Jul, 2005.  And I know that mmorpgchart.com is not the be-all, end-all authority, but it's a pretty good indicator.

Yep, its miserable, chunky, in the way, and generally unfriendly. What cracks me up the most is that half assed mouse pointer they stuck in. And there are elements of the UI you cannot move or resize, you just have to deal with it. How innovating...

I'm not saying JTL killed the game :p  JTL killed alot of the crowds as there was one less thing for you to hang around waiting for and you could go straight to your final destination rather then having to go through Corellia first.  The removal of Doc and Ent buffs removed even more reasons for there to be crowds as it was no longer crucial to have a set of buffs to do anythng so people hopped in there ship and went straight out into the field.  Other then looking at the bazaar or being social with strangers, there is really no reason to be in an NPC city.  The devs have noticed this too and have stated they'd like to change that (the quest Dev made an example in one of the threads about a instanced Rebel assault on a Imp building in Bestine).  All the content is out in the middle of no where and in no central location :)

As lame as the UI is , these shots should atleast show that yes there are still people playing SWG . As many as before ? NO , yet it is still posible to get some pvp out of this game. Granted most servers don't have as many as say Bloodfin or bria .

Sony kills themselves not doing proper foreign releases...

After all it is SONY and yet EA is the ones that had to bring SWG to Japan.

I'm not a big fan of the new UI either, but luckily there is now a UI cutomization project going on :)  Download the zip from this site http://files.filefront.com/ui_v4zip/;4638693;;/fileinfo.html then extract it into your SWG folder and you'll have the UI as seen in my screenie.  All the boxes in the custom UI are resizeable (except the tool bar and group members window) and I believe they're now finding out how to remove parts of the UI completely.

This thread is moving too fast :p

SWG was never officially released here in New Zealand (or anywhere outside of the US, Europe and Japan), I just happened to be in the States at the time it was released and picked a copy up.

Even if it was, it would be unlikely they would have made a Down Under server for us.  WoW is promoted here (and was released here and in Australia the same day as in the US) and they've only JUST managed to get an Australian based server.

People have their opinions and their views, and they are entitled to it and should be respected.  You and Obraik argue that SWG is not dead and show pics that "prove" it.  I ceratinly don't believe it, but I will argue it no more.

However, given that you both admit that there's less people than before, and the purpose of the CU and NGE was to bring more people to the game, not drive them away...  Doesn't this make the CU and NGE a royal, monumental, historic and epic failure?!

That is something that is obvious :P , Yet even though we both agree on this point . Dosen't mean we can't both be proven wrong . In no way am i a SOE fanboi i just don't dig most games that are available at the moment i figure im better off playing my charecter than playing a genre i don't like . As for me trying to prove anything i dont consider myself doing that . I am only showing what is happening on my server . Never did i say the population was strong in SWG i just said its not Dead . Dead to me is logging into say Battlefield vietnam or something that noone plays anymore .

. I have just seen many uninformed posts on this site in regards to SWG . posts by people who have obviously not touched the game enough since NGE to give anyone an acurate description of the actual game .

theed and coronet siezed being hubs ages ago. Theres no point to go there now that anyone can just fly anywhere with their spaceships.

Go to bestine or mos eisley and you will see that there are still loads of people playing this game and enjoying it.

Of course those would be the most populated because the noobs live there.

But Theed was Vet Central. I've never seen it that empty.

Hey, I'm not trying to be rude, but I question the timestamp on your screenshot.....

my point :  I USED to have VOD on my waypoint manager too....until about a week after NGE....you had it up still.....(if this Screenie was taken RIGHT after NGE, then ya, ....that's how crowded it was.....but one week later....down down down.....so spill it....when were these created?

Bloodfin has a player event of a war going on this weekend I heard, so I am not surprised of it being packed with PvPers. It was THE unofficial PvP server. The question is can Bloodfin get the numbers it used to? Does it still crash the server more often than SOE changes its mind on the direction of the game. Which they still have yet to deliver a plan to the customers.

My guess is they throw darts at a board for design implementation.

Right before the JtL beta, I remember when they were showed the bionic stuff. I was thinking, I need to get out, all these outstanding bugs and simple design issues and they keep throwing new crap at us, and the new crap isn't even good content.

hasnt this thread been pacified enough by the pictures Malickiebloo posted? I mean seriously, you can clearly see a TON of players are still playing and enjoying the game. Its time to move on i think.

    1. it was a player organized event.

    2. it is STILL less people than typical Theed or Dantooine pre-nge. MUCH less.

The fanboi meeting is tuesday, it is your turn to bring the pie.
