Ok sorry to put up another post directed toward females, I would like some guys opinions also-
I really want to know what games you are all into right now. I'm in between games at the moment and am FRANTICALLY searching for my next obsession. I keep hearing good and bad things about EVERY game out there, and It's making it freaking impossible for me to decide which game would be best- and most fun for me (being a girl).
Here's a little background: I used to play COH (which is a bit repetitive for me), and WOW. I liked them both, though I liked WOW more because there was more of a community and more to DO in general. I tend to be a carebear but I like some pvp too. I can't stand games that don't have an extensive character creation function and to me character growth is what really draws me into a game. I recently downloaded a trail version of SWG. I like how much threre is to do in the game and was about to buy it when I heard that it might be shutdown within the next year.
PLEASE tell me what game you think I might enjoy based on what I've told you
Thanks everyone!

Do off-line games count?

if you have one in mind then sure let me know...though I was mainly just talking about online games thanks!
If you like character building try out Horizons.
- There are various types of character and all can be customised to your taste.
- There are over 50 schools which is good because if u create a char and join a certain school, then find you don't like that school you can just join a different school and learn that instead of makin a new char [schools = melee, magic etc]
- Crafting [a school] enables you to build your own house [for storage] build armour, weapons, accessories etc. You can make for yourself or make and sell.
- The community numbers have fallen a bit but people are friendly and helpful, more than any game i've played.
14 free days, give it a go i say.
FinalFantasy Chronicles for the PlayStation. Chrono Trigger is an RPG legend to some people and some of it's mechanics should IMO be used in new games. Also, when you think your near the end of that game your usually wrong, lol.
(Chrono Trigger comes with FF:Chronicles.)

Im not a female, but I'm pretty much in the same situation as you are.
2005 was a slow year for MMO's, and you had to choose between a lot of the long existing games if you were moving to a new one.
A lot of new games are coming out this year and next that have large hype, such as Dark and Light, D&D, and Warhammer Online to name a few.
As far as what you suggested, maybe Pirates of the Burning Sea may be attractive to you. It is very personal when it comes to gameplay, and the designing of Ships and Characters can have unlimited possiblities since users can submit 3-d models which can be incorperated into the game.
I'm stuck on a game for you right now though, maybe signing up for some betas or 10-day trials could tide you over until some of the newage games are released.
Hope that helps.

I'm curious to know about more good MMORPGs too. For me, I'd like a game that gives us non full time combat oriented players something more to do. Horizons sounds interesting. I was also sort of looking into Dark Age of Camelot.
Anyway, a new game will have to wait til my computer gets a complete overhaul.
*man opinion alert*
If you liked SWG, u might like DAOC, its the closest to the older best SWG there is, and the community is great and the character creation is about 70% as good as the SWGs, but theres lots of customization available ingame as well. I had stopped playing SWG about a year and a 1/2 ago and spend the rest of the time looking for another MMO with a similar feel and community and settled on DAOC.....might want to look into it, you can get the Epic edition (full game with all available expansions) for like 45$ or so.
If you like an extensive character creation function and to me character growth then I think Everquest 2 is the thing IMO.
ALOT of things to do and you get to evolve you charecter as you level. Very fun game.
*puts on his asbestos suit*
keep playing SWG. Its a kick ass game, and the combat is a hell of a lot better now than it ever has been. Its got a great combination of ground combat, space combat and varieties of PvP if you want. Im currently subscribed to it after playing WoW and beta testing DDO. I also play Eve, but I think SWG would suit you best if you're coming from WoW.
normally I wouldnt recommend everquest 2, but if you play SWG you might as well pick up the 21.95 a month subscription and play EQ2 and SWG.
oh..as far as the game being shut down in a year?.. its nothing but rumors started by disgruntled pre-cu veterans of the game.
if you BUY SWG, you choulst pick up the "total experience" box as opposed to the starter kit. Id also pick a server like Bria which is very populated.. a lot of people are coming over to Bria as well because of its population. Ive seen a lot of women/girls playing the game (my PA leader is a woman for instance) and ..from a mans perspective SWG has a LOT going for it that the ladies like.. such as clothing, socials and character customization
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
I also forgot to mention that I like games that are kinda heavily populated.... I dont like playing in a ghost town ya know? If I wanted to play by my self I'd go play with my gamecube or something.
-just thought i'd throw that in to help.
yea and theres alot of us. SOE ruined our game
. still old out hope on the other side of the fence tho, waiting for a classic server for SWG. (altho i dont mind the Post-CU combat, its the swarms of jedi that ruined the game, ruined the faction battles and everything else :P )
DAOC is pretty populated. my adivice is still for DAOC
Just a quick note , At present there really isn't a game as populated as WOW . Try not to judge other games based on capital cities in WOW
I'd suggest trying the trial for EQ2 , Its a decent game . and the PVP sounds like it may add alot to the game.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
Yeah I understand that. WoW was almost TOO populated though- I'd ruberband through the cities like a slingshot cause of all the damn lag.
So far EQ2 and DAOC sound best to me but I'd still like more input from some ppl (girls too please!)
Any suggestions for upcoming games? I think HJ looks promising....
another one popped into my mind thats looking promising, but its been shrouded in mystery as of a NA release date. but looking into Uncharted Waters, its an anime-esque styled game based on a Pirate/Ships. ports etc. Looks pretty fun and all, but theres not much on the game in english yet. its originated overseas (award-winning SP RPG over there from what i understood). So keep your eyes out for that too!
(Guy opinion alert)
Dark Age of Camelot might be worth a try, though from my memory the PVE seemed kind of week, mainly just grinding, the quests were limited to "Go kill X Monster and come back to me" or "Take X item to X NPC." There wasn't much customization as far as appearence (It seems like CoX is it when it comes to this) but the stats end wasn't half bad. To be honest I can't really think of anything it has over WoW though except for PVP. I havn't played for about two years though.
I don't play EQII myself, but I have a friend who does and he's complained about the game having a low population, but it could just be his server.
I havn't tried it yet, but from what I've heard, D&D Online might be worth keeping an eye on.
That's just rumours, though not totally unsubstantiated. The game is half what it used to be and a large portion of its content, most importantly player-driven content, is pretty much abandonded.
In any case, DAoC has a free trial I think, so it's worth a shot. EQ2 is always a good choice, in my opinion, if you prefer doing quests and generally rely on PvE content.
Currently playing:
* City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
* City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.
All out of online games currently. I'm just reinstalling Vampire Bloodlines for my rpg fix.
Guildwars is pretty well populated.
Live in your world, Die in mine...
I'm a girl so here is my girly opinion I guess.
If you are like me and you really like to level and work on your character I would suggest Saga of Ryzom. I really like leveling up and you never really finish leveling in that game ^^; So if you feel the same way you probably wouldn't like Guild Wars since it has very little character development, it's just a guild vs. guild pvp game. I love PvP, but I also like to feel that i'm adding something to my character each time I play. Thats why WoW didn't really click with me, I got to 60 and I didn't really want to raid, and I didn't find battlegrounds fun because it was mostly a free-for-all on my server.
There is going to be good and bad points about every game so it just really depends on what you are looking for. I don't think my advice will help if you don't have the same playstyle as me... but goodluck in your game hunt! I think a lot of us are in the same boat right now.
I would have, not long ago, suggested SWG. I cannot in good faith, do that any longer and not feel guilty in doing so. SWG was a great game to develope a unique character. I seriously loved playing my master dancer/merchant/artisan/scout/miner and could use a two handed sword decently <--- yes she was all these things. I loved playing her. ::sighs::
Oh well...nothing is forever...scratch that...the war in the game Planetside...that is forever. LOL!
Anyway...SWG was so unique because you had so many options in how you created your character...in how it looked, to what it wore to what it could do...and you could continuely change it to fit your playing style at any time. If I felt like I wanted to spend my time entertaining others I could dress her up in a nice dancers outfit and go dancing in a cantina. If I wanted to go exploring I could dress her up in clothes appropriate for exploring. So many, many options...how could you not like that?
Anarchy Online is the only other MMORPG that gives you similar flexibility and almost as many options...just not quite as many. It is good however and the core game that is Anarchy Online is free to play. Download the trial and check it out.
Just my two cents.
Anybody know any good games for a white guy?????
EQ2, come to befallen server. thats where i play. its a fun game, and fairly populated.
Mah Jong!
I'm playing EQ2, at the moment. It's not GREAT but it's pleasant enough. I was in beta and didn't like it at all but since then, it's been worked on and the improvements are pretty significant. It's easy to solo and there is virtually no downtime. There are servers which have decent sized populations but I don't think any of them could be called "heavy". PvP is slotted for the future, if that interests you, too. I've played both Ryzom (which is pretty but I found rather boring) and Horizons and while the communities might be good, you're lucky if you can find any of them on a daily basis. They are woefully underpopulated.
On my consoles, I'm playing Dragon Quest VIII and Wild Arms 4 for the PS2. The hubby is playing GT4, now and then, and Guitar Hero. It's too much fun watching him! hehe. He also played SWG and has an account for that and WoW (where he has several level 60s) but he seems to have become tired of MMOs, lately. I'm trying to play Fatal Frame II for the XBox, but it's WAAAAAY too scary for me! I love scary films... I don't know why scary games disturb me so much!
Being female and having played pretty much every game out there including WoW and SWG (which was a great came pre-cu but now is not worth playing), I recommend EQ2. I am on the Antonica Bayle server which is a roleplaying preferred server but is very populated. There are plenty of females that play on this server, and it has kept me interested far more then WoW ever did, especially now that I am almost at lvl. cap.
EQ2 has a trial you can try (though soon the trial of the isle will be revamped when you can start out as the class you want to be instead of having to choose scout, then rogue at 10 then brigand at lvl. 20).
If Eq2 isn't your cup of tea, I would say DAOC, the classic servers there are nicely populated and it is a very fun game, though the pve in EQ2 is more interesting then having to slog through the pve in daoc.
Good luck with whatever you choose
