Well i gave the game 2 weeks to impress me but it failed in just 3 days.
1. The whole game is set in a town? what? how dissapointing i'm not sure about anyone else but after 5 times of walking to door A for a quest i got bored.. what happened to the adventure of getting to the quest?
Nope not here you stroll on in and whack a mole until your brain fucked.
2. No crafting/all stuff is bought at the store again what the??? ok i im not a craft nut but i enjoy the option of being able to craft stuff here and there here you don't have a choice its walk on upto the vendor and buy it.
3. ITS ALL INSTANCED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! horrible idea just downright horrible in this game you can't even walk out of the town to kill a monster/mob etc you have to stroll on into some door that leads you to something this game likes to call a dungeon.
WoW has the perfect setup (im not a wow fanboi) they do it just right if you want to dungeon crawl you can if you want to interact with other players/the world you can.
I really fail to see why people are enjoying this game.. this isn't a PC game guys its a console game.
I can see the game failing in less then a year after release seems like they just stuck a great name on the box to get the sales in.
Comments
People enjoy cause it's something different from most of the MMOs out there. It's heavily focused on dungeons and forced grouping.
Personally, my idea of boredom is soloing in an outdoor environment with 100% of escaping if I get into troube (ala World of Warcraft). Sure at 60, WoW is at it's funnest but the trip to 60 is boring as hell.
Anyway, I really don't see this game failing in less than a year. Look at games like Matrix Online, by far not the best MMO out there but it's still alive and kickng and it proves titles sell and D&D is a popular title.
I could'nt agree more with Burrek!
No offense to the OP but Im glad you (and people like you) dont like DDO. To me, that just means that the game will be filled with like-minded players all there to have fun going on adventures.
But everyone is different. That is why just thinking about WoW makes me feel ill, but yet it makes the OP happy.
Such is life.
I would have to agree with burrek as well. most of what people like him list as problems in the game is what draws me too it in the first place and well talked about by the developers as to what is in the game. IF soemone does not like these things about the game they need not even play it to find out as a little reading will tell you you are not going to like it.
Not every game is for every person... i managed to play wow about 3 hours on a cousins account and ended up fealing like i was playing every other mmorpg i have played before and was bored of it in one night.
double post
All you saying "it's a breath of fresh air", have you tried it yet? I can only imagine you haven't, and if you have, think about this while you're playing: "They expect me to pay $180 a year for this". That might sober you up real quick.
I thought the exact same til I got into the beta and tried it. Its a painful game to play and it takes the adventure concept of PnP and dungeon crawl from PnP and turns it into a 20 minute flit. Not to mention whoever wrote the quests has never played the PnP game, and if they have they did it when they were 5.
And get used to dark rooms and stone walls, because that's all your going to see for some time.

I have tried the game and i still like it. It is what i was expecting.
I am just saying that for those that go on about how they played the game and write as if its a surprise to them that instancing is there or other things the developers are up front about and when their list of things they dont like is a complete list of what the developers talked about as being or not being in the game kinda makes you wonder if they even really tried the game or just read a descriiption of it and did not like it.
I suppose what i mean to say is that if you do some research and find that the general design of the game is what you have a problem with than there is no point in trying it out or making posts about how it sucks etc... move along nothing to see here.
It would be like me going into the planetside forums and bitch about what a crappy game it is casue its too much like a fps and i think they should change that. People would call me a dumbass for that ... and rightly so.
Yes, I have played it. Been in beta for a while now. Yes, I enjoy the game and yes, I am happy to pay that.
Im sorry you dont like the game, but I can deal with that.....
I've been in beta for 3 months now and I happen to like the game alot. if you think the game takes place all in one city then you are the one who has not played very much. i agree in the first few lvls maybe up to lvl 4 most of the quests take place in dungeons in the city but there are plenty of other places on xendrik to name a few; Iron stone inlet, sorrowdusk isles, three barrel cove, ruins of threnal, tangleroot gorge, tempest spine.
as for the 180$ in a year, thats what i used to spend in 2 weekends going out to clubs. 15$ a month is not an issue, at least not for me.
with Wizards of the Coast behind Turbine on this project I highly doubt there will be a lack of content.
So, because the guys who ruing Heroes of Might and Magic are behind the project you feel confident?
This is your main argument? WotC are great guys and they do great stuff, but they also ruins Heroes of Might and Magic...hopefully the 5th will save the franchise now.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I appear to have gone into the wrong forum, I was looking for the DDO one....."
I played it and I like it. Not all the quest are inside dark rooms or caves. There are outdoor quest and I like the quest where your on a ship and have to keep the pirates on the pirate ship next to you from getting on and killing the crew.
This game is not like your standard mmo and thats a good thing. After playing DDO, if any new mmo's come out with freaking autoattack boring as hell combat, I won't touch it. I love the twitch type fast paced combat and I'm 31, not some 16 yearold kid hopped up on mountain dew
The Brave Do Not Fear The Grave
Actually my problem with it is its less then a standard MMO. You only get one aspect of it and that is questing and too me the quality of the questing isn't very good.

I think this game takes an interesting approach although I have to agree that the provided content is simply not worth 15 bucks a month if all you can do is quest-grind.
Other games simply offer more - and that is something that Turbine should respect and adjust their fees to accordingly.
Just in EU beta, a few things I thought about on first impression.
1) There is no intro or movie to explain why you are there: every mmo has a prologue intro and I don't believe they couldn't fit one into a 1.7GB compressed install. Okay it is still beta, but even other betas had some kind of background intro.
2) I kept reading that the game is instanced, but OMG this is cubbyhole gaming in the extreme. I also got thinking are they hiding the actual number of instances from the players, so that if you go into the tavern once, then a few minutes later will you get a completely new instance if the old one is full. Not sure on that one, but I guess even the more public areas are fully instanced. Edit: Confirmed, I had to change instances becuase the NPC's didn't spawn in Tavern2
3) The combat scarily resembles SWG new combat system, I preferred to use mouselook mode because I just found it hella've lot easier. I had flashbacks to SWG.
4) What's with the Crash Bandicoot mini game?! Break stuff get XP, yeah that's part of D&D. This is the same WoTC that brought us Baldur's Gate series (ok that wasn't D&D ruleset 3.5, but still), isn't it?
5) Erm positives positives, hmm looks nice.
I have only been playing the beta for 3 days now. I'm not too impressed but I'm not unimpressed either. I'm on the fence about it. I say this because I have only been playing it for 3 days and 3 days is not enough to properly critiq the game. I find it strange that I seem to be like the only halfling bard when ever im in the tavern surrounded by warforge and fighters. Too many big folk. I would like to see my favorit D&D class but I know that I will never see Swashbuckler Anywho one small question- why is like every mmo that is in the works or what ever is compared to WoW? Look in the end I'm looking at one of two mmo's this and RF Online. I'm playing both betas and I'm carefully concidering wich to get. I just need to play both and also have people convince me why I should go with wich so let my quest for fire continue.
I played the 10 day trial and I liked it. Will play it along with my EQ1 and EQ2.
If you don't like it....
Don't buy it, Don't play it, DON'T whine because myself and others find it enjoyable.
Don't like the instancing, or lack of PvP on DDO ....
Go frag a total stranger on another MMoRPG ... Not on this Forum
Jeez ... some people just wanna pee in someones cornflakes and complain that they weren't invited to breakfast.
Go Away!
end of rant .
Can't speak for others, but I'm a big fan of D&D and I wanted to like it, I really did but I don't. Why don't you tell everyone why you liked it then? Hmm DDO or wait for NWN2, tough choice!

Someone wrote that I should post what I enjoyed about DDO:
1. Graphics and interacting with the enviroment. Jumping, swimming and of course box/vase smashing.
2. If you get aggressive and use the LFG tool provided ... I went no more than 10 minutes without a group. You can do alot of the dungeons with just 1 or maybe 2 other people.
3. If you ran ahead of my thief to kill anything you saw and you got BBQ'd by a trap .... instant gratification for me (and stupidity on your part). I liked the distinct character classes. A thief is a thief and a cleric can kick butt.
4. No counting the hours until "Uber God's Pet from the Plane of Dysfunction" spawned and having your Guild compete with another Guild to get to him first.
5. My Falchion ( and other weapons) and medium/heavy armors looked different from other people's same type of equipment. Same with shields. I know of 4 different styles of heavy +1 metal shields and there are probably more. No dyes (as of yet).
6. Voice chat ... ahh where to start.... This is well woth the $22 i invested in a headset/mic. To hear the people you interact with is waaay cool! I even got to group with a RL female from Texas playing a Sexy looking Ranger elf. Made my week.
7. Did I mention smashing boxes and vases? hehehe (insert Diablo flashback).
Is it worth $15 a month? To me yes.
As I said before.... Don't like it? Don't want to pay for it? Don't think it is worth it?DON"T BUY IT! Play what you want. I know I do and I AM. Yes you have the right to comment and whine, whine, whine about anything and everything just to be heard. I also have the right to make up my own mind and ignore you. Like the saying goes "Opinions are like.... "
For the other people: Make up your own minds.
Why not go go comment something POSITIVE for a change on the games you do like (Very few or none I am willing to bet).
Meantime I sharing a new bowl of cornflakes with my 4 year old that WHINES less than a couple of you...
