    1. The whole game is set in a town? what? how dissapointing i'm not sure about anyone else but after 5 times of walking to door A for a quest i got bored.. what happened to the adventure of getting to the quest?Nope not here you stroll on in and whack a mole until your brain fucked.
    2. No crafting/all stuff is bought at the store again what the??? ok i im not a craft nut but i enjoy the option of being able to craft stuff here and there here you don't have a choice its walk on upto the vendor and buy it.3. ITS ALL INSTANCED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! horrible idea just downright horrible in this game you can't even walk out of the town to kill a monster/mob etc you have to stroll on into some door that leads you to something this game likes to call a dungeon. WoW has the perfect setup (im not a wow fanboi) they do it just right if you want to dungeon crawl you can if you want to interact with other players/the world you can.
I really fail to see why people are enjoying this game.. this isn't a PC game guys its a console game.I can see the game failing in less then a year after release seems like they just stuck a great name on the box to get the sales in.

I've played the game since last week, and I like it. WoW is a different game than this and I like it as well. The cool thing in this game is I don't run 10 minutes to a quest. The grouping is needed as well. I like the idea of a tavern as a resting place, this way a group can rest and socialize for a few before the next dungeon. I respect all opinions, but this game, to me, will do well.l

  • dreadmandreadman Member Posts: 20

I approached this game with alot of doubts. I had heard of all this instancing and stuff and I really didnt think it would be fun. But after playing for a few days now, the game system has grown on me. Its really easy to find a group and the narrators voice inside the dungeons is a bit silly but it sure adds to the experience.

I can firmly state that this game is really good after you get the hang of it. Althoug I did experience some bugs in the game, I think that given time, the develpoers will make this game blossom.

As an example, one guy I played with got angry because he never leveled up. He said that he was able to get to level 99 in D2 before level 2 in this game. Sure, if you like to killem fast and be rewarded in levels, go to D2 or WOW. But if you like the experience of the game more than just leveling all the time, choose DnD online.

This is a game that really helps you train your social skills as well. As for others out there who might be as shy as I am this is good. Practise to socialize online and you will see it becomes easier in real life aswell. In games like WOW, you dont haveto be social, but in this game it hits you in the face :)

Ive only played for a few days, and so far I like it. But the game will also depend on the long-term aspects. I think many people who praise or "curse" a game havent played it enough to know what they are talking about. The same goes for me. This is only my first impression of the game.

Comparing wow with anything is stupid. WoW is probably the biggest crap mmorpg made for cs players and 14 years old just like the community. WoW is bad in every aspect of a free moving mmopg. The mob system is crap! U can only kill mobs within your lvl becouse of some twisted rules of your lvl and the mobs lvl. You cant flee from a mob or anything. The world is build in a pattern which really tells u where to go and when to go to the specific areas. Ppl say that wow isnt a hack and slash and all the ppl that played a char to lvl 60 should know that the hack and slash is really just like "hidden" behind 3153476457 stupid meaningless quests. DDO is aimed towards pen and paper fans and i think that they converted it as good as they could. dnd would never work in a fully free moving mmorpg since its move based on the dungeon experience than the "oh look a mob! lets kill it and get lotsa exp and loot". And i must say that the DDO community is great! No annoying kids running around screwing everone over and destroying everyones day.

Ive played nearly every mmorpg on the gamelist and ddo is probably one of the best becouse of the experience of the game. It really has the dnd feeling to it.

I recommend everyone reading this to try it and not start whining about the "instancing" before u've experienced the game yourself

But offcourse everyone has diffrent taste :). Im actually one of those that love hack and slashes such as Ragnarok Online and Lineage 2 type of mmorpg. But DDO's experience really glows so much more than all the other mmorpgs on the market

So what are u waiting for? Go to fileplanet.com and get ur european beta account while u can :D

just from reading this thread I think it sounds good. I don't care how long it takes to lvl up etc. as long as I'm having fun in a group and working together to get through and adventure. I don't mind instancing at all ( i like guild wars ) if its done well. I just got an email about the next stress test keys going out I'm going to try it out. I look forward to meeting mature like minded individuals in game..

I was looking forward to a change from World of Warcraft. As I am familiar with Dungeons and Dragons I thought this game would be a refreshing change - most notably the graphics. I was looking forward to being able to explore a brand new world that didnt look cartoony but I was wrong, this game apparently doesnt have a world outside of the cities. The game feels very closed in and is so very like a singleplayer game to me that I feel alone and isolated from fellow gamers. Its a shame since I was looking forward to this game before I got a chance to pay it.

First off, WoW may be a crap game in your opinion.  But it is only your  opinion.  And over 5 million seem to think otherwise.  I would giess that Turbine would love to have even half as many subscribers as WoW has.

Ive played nearly every mmorpg on the gamelist and ddo is probably one of the best becouse of the experience of the game. It really has the dnd feeling to it.

What really gets to me is when someone posts something like this...  So you have played every game on the list...  And you say DDO is one of the best because of the experience of the game.  Why not post why you feel that way?  Can you not some up with some examples as to why you feel this way?  And explain how it has the DnD feeling to it...

I recommend everyone reading this to try it and not start whining about the "instancing" before u've experienced the game yourself

OK, I have tried it.  And I do not mind the instancing for the quests...  I do not, however, like the total instancing of the game.  Everything is instanced...  I want a world to explore, just in case I don't have a lot of time to find a group and do a long quest.  Why would WotC crerate a whole new world if not to explore it?

But offcourse everyone has diffrent taste :). Im actually one of those that love hack and slashes such as Ragnarok Online and Lineage 2 type of mmorpg. But DDO's experience really glows so much more than all the other mmorpgs on the market

WoW is the biggest mmorpg indeed but its aimed on the younger mmorpg players or mostly aimed for ppl that never played mmorpgs earlier. A simplified mmorpg that u dont need to play 24/7 like all the old mmorpgs like anarchy online, ragnarok online, lineage 2 etc etc. DDO is a atempt to get all those pen and paper fans to get online and play a game suited for them. I played WoW for 6 months and in the end i felt like i got nothing playing it. The instances and such were just a eternal struggle to get thru. Noone cared what happend in the next room aslong as they survived and got to roll on the phat loot. DDO really brings that to another lvl.

First of all is the first expression of the game. You walk of the boat and get sent out on a small quest in the tavern which is a starter quest and still mighty exiting. The Story teller or the voice telling you about "you feel the presence of something evil" etc etc really brings out a feeling to the instances thats never been seen in a mmorpg before. Its not like you just mindlessly run down into a instance and kill all the mobs and then the boss and complete the instance and its more than enough quests to keep the interesst high. Even tho u think im just one of those wise guys that sign up for the forum and say "ive played every mmopg in the world j0 n00bs!" I must say i can insure you that ive played most of that list since ive been here for a few years now just eagerly waiting for a new beta or release to go public.

I recommend everyone reading this to try it and not start whining about the "instancing" before u've experienced the game yourself

Well yeah its heavily instanced but i really think they made a good job with it even tho theres really no world to explore beside the instances.

But offcourse everyone has diffrent taste :). Im actually one of those that love hack and slashes such as Ragnarok Online and Lineage 2 type of mmorpg. But DDO's experience really glows so much more than all the other mmorpgs on the market

Id say that it has feeling! Since ive started playing DDO ive just done alot of quests and i just hunger for more. The adventuring is really fun :D. id say that is "Glows" becouse of the fun adventuring of the quests and it really feels like everything has a meaning instead of just lvling. This game is indeed more about having fun then hardcore grinding. Again i compare WoW since its a game most readers can relate to and what i didnt really like in wow is the big gaps between the instances. for alliance the instances are at like 15-20, 25-30, dont really remember what lvl u had to be to do scarlet monestary but the gaps are still 5-10 lvls between each instance and then u have to do alot of meaningless quests to get enough exp to do something exiting again. OK, I think I understand where you are coming from...  Not that I totally agree with it.  image  I agree that DDO is an attempt to get the PnP crown to go online and play DnD.  The problem I have is that, IMO, I don't think that they succeeded very well.  Playing DDO is not like playing a PnP game of DnD.  I think that they changed too many things...  Like Going from turned based fighting to twitched fighting...  Giving everyone 20 plus hit points to start out with...  Making first level monsters a LOT tougher then they are in the Monster Manuals... No world to explore (I know I have said this beforeimage)...  I could go on, but I think you get the point.

Ive played nearly every mmorpg on the gamelist and ddo is probably one of the best becouse of the experience of the game. It really has the dnd feeling to it.

I did like the voice over, but I thought at time it was really cheesey  And I thought that if they were going to use the voice over, they should have used it everytime that there was a DM statement.  In other words, they need to use it more then they are now.

I was not trying to put you down for your statement about playing every game on the list...  What I was trying to put forward, and I guess I did not do a very good job, was to get people, not just you, to tell why they like/dislike the game, and not just "It was great!"  I want to know why you like it...  Maybe I missed something that you saw.

Well yeah its heavily instanced but i really think they made a good job with it even tho theres really no world to explore beside the instances.

We differ here a lot...  I think that they did a poor job with it.  They could have done so much better.  The instances (quests) could have had a lot more detail, and less of the break everything you can type of thing.  And they could have made a lot of different dungeons models, instead of cookie cutter models.  And I did not like having just one city that you had to unlock different parts of.  Meaning you have to complete a quest to get access to another part of the city.  Just seems to me like they are trying to force you to follow a certain route in the game.

But offcourse everyone has diffrent taste :). Im actually one of those that love hack and slashes such as Ragnarok Online and Lineage 2 type of mmorpg. But DDO's experience really glows so much more than all the other mmorpgs on the market

You see, I did not get the feeling that things had a meaning... or that everything was fun or exciting all of the time.  And yes, the Instances in WoW are a little far in between levels...  And as for WoW, it works for a lot of people.  I do play WoW, tho not as much as I used to, but the server I have my characters on, there is usually a 30 minute to 60 minute wait to get online because it is full.  But that is another story.

Yeah, apart from a few silly posts by certain members, I can honestly say this is the first thread in about a year I have enjoyed reading and posting in.  :)  Hopefully this is the kind of audience the game will attract.

I spent another 2 hours last night in-game and I love every minute.  Even fell to my death and landed at the feet of another player.  I can see it now, he was standing there chatting and minding his own business, then all of a sudden "BAM!", a 3ft dwarf lands broken and twisted at his feet!  LOL (well, I found it funny :))

But everyone is different. That is why just thinking about WoW makes me feel ill, but yet it makes the OP happy.

I think wow makes people ill if they join a populated server and cant get groups to do instances.

WOWs problem is that new players experience the game in a totally different way to those that joined early on or who join new servers that havent had mass migrations from other servers.

for those not familiar with wow - if you join an established server you will find it relatively hard to find groups to do instances. If you roll a hunter or a rogue you may find that there are too many of you on a server and you'll have a tougher time finding groups for instances unless you have formed friends or started a guild yourself.

With the focus on instancing in D&D Online, I cant see how this situation is going to be any different once it is released. Certain char types will be in the majorityy (dont roll a cleric) and the taverns will be heaving with people trying to get into instance groups and going insane when they cant or spending hours trying to convince someone that their build is better.

at least in wow you can get out into the countryside for some fresh air and build your char when grouping mates are thin on the ground or go and indulge in some pvp.

There is some work to be done by the industry for next generation of MMOGs to evolve and improve.

Why there are always ppl trolling in posts like arribs ? You can be happy cause i also wont play this game. Instanced dungeons is like playing offline games in multiplayer, so what it is the point of this game ??? I differ with the original poster in the crafting issue, cause first in D&D there is not crafting skill, you just choose some classes and crafting it is not one of them, and that is logical i cant imagine how boring could be a D&D game where a dungeon master told me for 4 hours now you have to collect resources, roll tocheck if you find them, you find them roll for crafting and all the time like that. That would be more funny cause in D&D online game you do that but alone.

I fail to see how ANY of my posts are trollish. I have simply made my opinions be known. I have not posted meaningless crap like alot of people here just to invoke a response.
