I played SWG back in the day when you had to train and grind just to become force sencertive and when there was tens of doctors at Coronet all selling buffs for around 10k, those where the days and i still miss them.
I wonna no if a returnuing SWG player could get a free 14 day trial to see how much it has changed and to find out if its worth playing again.
this is funny as hell. I would like to commend the interviewer for asking the tough questions that the tool dodged like he was Neo in The Matrix.

I wonder how they can honestly expect to rebuild any kind of credit with the potential player base with canned answers and blow offs like "We never have and never will comment in regards to subscriber and player numbers".....the truth is in the subscriber numbers and the sooner they realize that the sooner theyll be able to make a game that people actually want to pay to play. Unfortunately, I dont like to flame but I have gone back to SWG 3 times....each time hoping its at least taking a step in the right direction (this game has teh potential to be HUGE! But its had awful support) so Im very jaded now. I wish someone with a serious ability would take over this game and make it what all Star Wars fans wish it was. But then that answer is obviously locked away in the dark dungeon never to be opened only known as "subscriber and player numbers" and they refuse to look at that.
this is a direct line to lucas arts swg department ask for casey keefe tell him how u feel about this crap game they made us your fellow player punpun and infuriated germ NUMBER IS 415-746-8000

We never have and never will comment in regards to subscriber and player numbers."
Well, most recently, I believe the producers letters on the SWG did make a comment about server numbers including the statement that %80 of the current player base was playing before the NGE. Clearly, another clueless remark.
"MMORPG.com: We asked this before and the answer was no. However, today, Id like to re-submit it. Are there any plans for a classic server that runs an older version of the game? Casey Keefe:
No, and not for business reasons it is impossible in terms of technology and resources."

The Engineering problem is not the issue. They have simply decided the business issue is the reason.
I really wish SOE would hire people that could state, with more clarity, what they really mean.
I swear that commercial in the USA that has a dozen monkeys working in an office with one human guy is how it MUST look over at the SOE/SWG region of thier offices!
Why do an interview if you're not going to answer anything?
The game is going... going... plop.
MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan
The basic lie about not being able to run a PRE NGE server pretty much shoots his credibility to hell. Not like anybody from SOE has any anymore, but just in case I might think of maybe believing anything this clown had to say.
The rest of it was a contuation of the same BS and lies they've been telling. Absolutely NO new information.
I'll be back, honest........as soon as Smedly, Torres, Freeman, and now Keefe all get canned. Oh, and the servers rolled back.
I will NOT buy another SOE product as long as Smedly has anything to do with this company. Other than maybe washing cars in the parking lot.
well, as long as NGE is arroud then i know all of my guild is gone(only 200 members with multipule accounts).
we want a game that is not in the kiddie pool of MMORPG.
IF LA/SoE wanted a fps online game why could they have nto used the battlefront for it?
Everyone else as addressed the obvious holes and flaws in Mr. Spin Doctors interview. producers letter to the gamers was clear 80% of the REAMINING players are "Vets", of the other 20% that is from over 200k trial accoutns, not a great return of value there. can not do a pre-nge server setup--coughbscough.
I could have live with all other NGE changes except removing of open ended skill based character development and player based economy. Now they noticed that their new "great" Star Wars iconic profession system "might" be "bit" too limited...
Difference between good MMORPG developer and SOE/LA's developer is that: good developer is talking through heart and soul - SOE/LA's developer is talking through money. Zero information interview (good questions, bad answers).
"I know I said this was my last post, but you my friend are a idiotic moron." -Shadow4482
SOE's answers to those core questions just prove that they don't know what they doing, still dont give a damn about customer input and carry on relying on their blind walking stick tactics.
The game/gameplay is not good even pathetic considering its past value and other games on the market now, and everyone keeps telling them this yet they are commited to ignorance. What I find funny is the way a large organisation like SOE are being bullied by the customer. Its true brilliance.
Sorry SOE you won't get this Vet back with the crappy NGE you running now!
I think they got a real problem with attracting new subscribers at the moment: first this interview that does not reveil anything at all and second the email I got from Soe online to pls log in and then I will get a launcher pistol.
Well you did have the greatest game ever!! Sorry to see how you destroyed it!
VANGUARD will be my next mmorpg, I guess they will do a better job!!!
I played SWG from a month after launch until a few months prior to the CU. I quit because of god-moded Jedi in PvP (I did not have a Jedi and was unwilling to pay SOE to spend months working and having no fun in the game until I unlocked). I came back for the CU, and actually enjoyed it for the first week or two, at which time they re-god-moded jedi with an update, and that was the point at which I cancelled my account for good.
Anyway, having been through a large portion of the changes the game has gone through, all I can say is that this interview does not surprise me. Community relations has never been SOE's strong point - in fact, it feels more like they don't give a damn about their customers, with a "you will play this game and you will like it, and you will pay us to do so, or else" type of attitude. Moreover, the person interviewed seems to have absolutely no clue how remarkably like the former Iraqi Inormation Minister he sounded - after all, he didn't have a clue, either.
Anyway, I'm tired and rambling on pointlessly. I was going to make a specific point with this post, but my sleepy brain can't seem to recall it, so I'll just close by saying that SOE sucks and that the LA guy that got interviewed needs to be hung upside down over a pit of starving, rabid rats by his testicles, with acid slowly dripped down onto them until they melt and send him plummeting to his doom.
(Okay, I wouldn't really wish that fate on anyone, but the guy seriously needs to get in touch with reality; of course, that should be done while he's looking for a new job, because he just screwed his current one up royally.)
Oh, I remembered what I was originally going to rant about - SOE/LA and disinformation, lies, and idiocy. Since I'm half asleep, I'll just briefly say that being open with your customers promotes trust and confidence. Also, owning up to your mistakes, apologizing for them, and letting people know that you will do your best to fix them (and that you are listening to their input on the matter) helps restore confidence - of course, SOE seemed never to have learned this.
SOE should've taken a page from CCP in terms of communication and openness about what they are doing with/to the game, and what's coming up in the future.
For anyone who hasn't read the interview with Nathan Richardsson (Oveur) from CCP, I highly recommend you do so, then compare his reponses to those of the Lucas Arts corporate hack. Two completely different approaches to customer interaction, public relations, and game design.
-Wrayeth "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!"
First off: I was a Star Wars fan until about a year ago.
Here's why.
I loved the first version of SWG, sure it had problems and bugs, but there was no super sized Jedi population. The professions was great, I could hop around with what I wanted to do and not being stuck to one thing.
There was GCW (Galactic Civil War), not working perfectly but still there, but then... Jedi, later on... But the way to become Jedi was stupid, so they changed it by adding a village that you could exchange your excess XP to Jedi XP: same old thing, new clothes. JtL (which was needed!! (no wars among stars without space))... then came Combat Upgrade (CU). "The what now? Upgrade the combat, zweeet!!". And then the the CU arrived and well... I had quit before that so I only heard by rumours that combat was simplified... "uuuhh, huuhh, uuhh", a'la Beavis and Butthead.
Intermission: Introducing Star Wars Episode 3 *cough* *hurl* *cough*
Then I got a mail from SOE, "Hey Come Back And Play Our New SWG, now with NGE".
- "The what now? NGE? Well, ok, I'll try it."
*sigh* I shouldn't have.
Sure the NGE is simple, easy and it works, but... it is simple and easy (even Beavis and Butthead would think it's easy).
So, version 3 of SWG and it's still have a lot of small annoying bugs that makes the Star Wars immersion just go *poof*.
Bugs... well, all software have bugs, but the point is to make them as invisible as possible. SWG always had Visible bugs, if it wasn't bad items, then it was stuck here, stuck there, graphics going haywire etc.
One thing about old SWG (version 1) was the User Interface (UI), I haven't seen any game yet that had such a great UI, intuitive, easy, not in the way (much). But well... poo happens.
I loved SWG, I loved Star Wars. Not. any. more.
PS. I am writing this with a heavy heart, because I miss the old Star Wars and SWG.
The following are excerpts from a visit between Casey Keefe and Casey's Psychologist.
Casey "Doc, I have to admit something. I think I may have a problem."
Doc "Okay, what is this problem you think you may have?"
Casey "Well, I am into Sadomasocism, necrophelia, and beastiality!"
Doc "I see and where is it precisely that you find any of this to be the problem you mentioned?"
Casey "Do you think I'm beating a dead horse?"
Moral of the story kids: When you kill something love it enough to let it die in peace.
"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."
I will not say much just that the day i removed and released my rare but now useless pets into the wild the game died for me. The same probably applies to other professions not only the not such liked Creature handlers. What reason would someone have to play this game again after years of efford were ruined in a single update?
WTG Dana! That interview had teeth and asked the simple questions that cause SOE's mask to drop. They are floundering and backtracking and even tail spinning. And their refusal to answer certain questions shows how they now measure up to the other MMORPG companies out there. Other companies could have answered them even if they didn't want to. SOE simply has made a mess of things and continue to hide it.
One day, perhaps, they will change their policies and try the honest approach. Some of the anger will fade and perhaps the healing will begins. Until then, those wounds will fester on every board on every mmorpg site.
Casey is so full of chit it is UNreal. He didn't answer good questions and blew smoke on the rest.
This game is dead, it will always be dead, there will be NO Vets coming back, NO ONE trusts SOE or LA anymore, the CONSTANT nerf everything in sight / remove content and replace with chit that is so broke it is ridiculas, then put the stuff they took out back in and call it new, there is still TONS of stuff that is still broke from when they pushed out the New Game Experience 3 months ago, servers are dead, the diversity in the game is GONE, even people still playing are complaining like mad about how boring it is, SOE AND LA KNOWS that preCU servers would go over HUGE but they won't do it because that will show that EVERYTHING they have done to this game since launch as been bad for the game.
In a nut shell SOE sucks - LA sucks - the BS NGE sucks = SWG now sucks.
And I want to send a warm heart felt thanks to both LA and SOE for taking $1,100.00 of my money over 2 yrs and 7 months on 2 accounts, spent hundreds if not thousands of hours playing and systematically dismantled the game that myself and 250,000 other people loved and saw so much potential in. Now they are down to 25,000 or so accounts over 18 +/- servers. Good F'n job SOE / LA.
Thank you SOE/LA.
