Eisley is bustling once again. Forums are getting more and more active. Every day more and more new and old SWG players are coming. Publish 27 has stirred more interest, and with each new publish the game will continue to rebound and improve. We all know about the NGE and its problems.. here are a few of my opinions:
1. Combat is much faster now, as it should be. Doesn't make sense for a blaster fight to last more than a few mins.
2. The community is still intact, veterans are around to help the new members, and with more people coming its only going to get better.
3. *With the new publishes coming out, the game is headed into the right direction, with a focus on the GCW, and serious effort going into each profession.
4. Next publish will bring tons more content to one of the most recognizable characters in the universe, the Bounty Hunter, with player bounties, and all new skills and abilities. I invite you to visit the official forums and check out Rogue 5's post on the future publishes, I think you'll like what you see for the future of SWG.
Flame me all you want, I've been playing the game since beta, it was on life support for a good while there afte the NGE, but I see it coming back, slowly but surely. If you are tired of dwarfs, wizards, and all the other stuff that comes with the other MMOGs out there, I do invite you to come back to a galaxy far, far, away!
*Takes out his fire extinguisher*- let's begin!

SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
Agreed, we would be better off if this thread was deleted.
Actually sounds like Wepps...."Tons" of new content.
and yet you posted...
Not trying for flame, just giving a different opinion from all the rest, that's all.
So how long have you been working for SOE?
Don't work of SOE or any other part of development of SWG, just a fan of the game.
1) Game still run by a company who shafted its loyal player base.
2) too many servers to support the number of players currently playing (don't even say the servers are busy i've been on 6 different servers at various times and the populations are laughable)
3) Player sustained economy destroyed by the destruction of the crafting professions
4) Loot has taken favour of player crafted goods
5) 32 professions reduced to 9
6) lack of customisation destruction of the skill point system in favour of a confined lvl based and class based system ( they say they will introduce some element of customisation fact is it will never allow you as much freedom as pre-cu or even 1st cu SWG)
7) Crafting professions royally shafted, being a former 2 and half year Armor smith i know exactly what this NGE and even the CU did to the profession i enjoyed it; they destroyed it royally over simplification of crafting, and every thing crafted being of little or no good. (don't even argue with me on this because i know i am 100% correct)
8) Level based system and lack of decay adding to crafters woes, if you stick with in your level range you don't need to use any armor and can use a crappy weapon and still kill many of the mobs rendering crafters such as weaponsmiths and armorsmiths useless essentially.
9) Destruction of a brilliant communtity. Game requires little or no contact with other players.
8) Poor expansions and poor unfinished content (simply another fact).
9) 2.5 years on and the game is in a worse state then it was before the NGE that is simply a fact.
10) Continuous spin and lies pooring out from SOE only compound the anger felt towards SOE and their handling of SWG.
11) SWG will simply never be as popular as it has been at its peak and at this rate in this incarnation unless something drastically changes will more then likely get worse and a further reduction in the subscription base.
12) I doubt very much these "new" players you see around the servers will stay for long, the game has no depth left in it what so ever to keep anyone hooked for long unless you are an avid star wars fan then you will probably be around until the game dies anyway.
13) By todays standards the NGE has transformed SWG in to one of the poorest MMO's out there at the moment i even suspect Dark and Light when that goes beta will be in a better state then SWG (thats saying something aswell).
14) They claim to be bringing back alot of stuff from pre cu and cu... why take it out in the first place?
The list can go on to about 100 points but i see little or no point in doing that because if you currently play the game and like it you will not listen.

1. Welcome to MMORPG's SWG Forum.
2. Glad that you enjoy the game.
3. Your opinions are noted though when claiming that a certain location is "bustling again", it is now the forum standard to provide screenies to prove it. Doing otherwise just will draw posts that contradict it and no one has ever won a battle of personal opinions.
Combat is faster, true but you will find that many here will point to the other parts of combat that make it interesting or not to them. I for one am not a big fan of the FPS style. It wasn't what I wanted when I bought the game and wasn't what I wanted when they decided to replace the system. Besides the still buggy techincal issues about it - it plays more like a video game and not what I expect from an MMORPG.
The community is not still intact. You will find that most of the community has left. Your own post indicates that players left and while some are coming back - this does not imply that the community that I played with on Eclipse or let me go one step further and say that the RANGER community that I spent 5 nights a week with and the guild buddys that I had are no longer there. I know because I keep in touch with my guildies and because the RANGERs got hit by Order 66.
You could say that the community that you are referring to is growing and in parts reassembling but to say intact would mean to compare it to the heyday. Having viewed the streets myself and seen the magic numbers and heard accounts of others - it can in no part be compared to the good ole days at this present time.
Your hope about the Publishes may well turn out to be true but when one bets on a horse - one tends to look at its previous track record and as a longtime player you would have this knowledge first hand. You mentioned yourself that after NGE came out that it was on life support but failed to mention why. Exactly why was it on life support in your opinion? What causesd Vets to leave? If you say NGE, then why is it so acceptable after a few minor cosmetic changes?
Hey, listen - I am not flaming. Games need people with enthusiam and hope. I am tired of being pessimistic anymore and disgruntled but you have to consider the reasons why I am that way. Heck, if you scan this forum you will see me making a post similar to this when SOE finally put the RANGER REVAMP on their schedule. I was all for the game then because it meant they finally started to listen. Had I checked the books again, I would have known it was shortlived. They killed us off and gave us the "spy" as a meager replacement. No revamp was ever planned.
My best wishes to you and might I suggest that you meet Obraik here in the forum. Smart guy full of hope and optimism. You will meet the other lot here soon enough and they are here like me waiting for SOE and gang to fire the people who keep making these decisions and really start doing something to earn our return.
Good luck,
Oh and just a warning - another system change is coming your way soon.
It's called a "fanboi", learn to spell.
Keep paying them for the SW skin while you test how twitch works for the DC MMO.
SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
How did this turn into a bigger is better argument?
Go get screenshots of 1k players in cities if you want, by that thinking Runescape should be infamous for its great comunity its player base is full(of little a$$hole$) thats the only game i can compaire SWG too.
Other argument $OE is adding content ?? you mean putting it back in ??
Here are the things holding SWG back from raelly going forward with thier terrible NGE idea:
1) TARGETING IS PISS POOR - Implented in horrific fashion
2) Uneasiness with the March 5 focus group - wtf another change? STABILITY NEEDED
3) GCW and PvP = terrible in comparison to other MMOs (i.e. successful MMOs - EVE, WoW, GWs and a few others)
FIX those things...and ya got somthing.
Even Oblarik (sp?) who I respect for his/her defense for the game, even tho I disagree with some of it, cant really argue against these things.
SWG as is has hope....small hope...but its possible.
Issue is - SOE is a terrible company at this point in time in terms of thier track record with SWG.
Sadly time will tell - it always has.....
gah who the hell plays at 4:30 AM - lol
The same hope I have of nailing Jessica Alba.
Shayde - SWG (dead)
Proud member of the Cabal.
It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

Obraik's a Kiwi, so I guess he's using a time relative to our time zone (depending on where you are). For me his 4:30am would be my 11:30, so it would be more relative to see the what the pop is at that time.
I'm sure that he'll do what all the apologist for SOE do, which is go the the most busy place he can find and take a screenshot, then come here and say: "See! there's 20 people there... It's not dead!" Or like the OP, who actually dared to say that "The community is still intact". A daring commentary when a real veteran would know that we used to have 50 players in a single cantina.
Then some other apologist is gonna come in and say: "You idiots, there's no reason for people to be on a city anymore!" "The uber buffs are gone" "Everyone is at Mustafar" blah, blah, blah! In the end, we all know that the community IS NOT intact!
In the end, this is another case of "Been there, done that!"

I did not know how popular I am, well your welcome for knowing me I know it is great to have that privy. However there is joking and having fun which is what I do mostly, and thats all good. But when you are being being serious and a blood vessel is about to explode out of your head, then you have to draw a line and step back and say, you know what, its just a simple game thats all. I dont think that the way this game is right now, and SOE have ruined your life have they, I hope not. A person can hate a game or a direction of a game thats fine, they can even say as much, but you act like this game was the center of your universe and whole life has been altered becuase of it, and I really hope that is not the case.

MMORPGs are by design more than just games. While it is true some do play it as a game and that is about it but this indicates that something isn't working right. MMORPGs are designed to draw you out of this current reality and seemingly convince you to spend some time in another. Once there, what exactly are you missing that the other reality offers? Community? Food? Activity? Pay? Housing? Shopping? It is even arguable that someone could have more of a life in said game than they have in RL. Case in point - people with conditions or injuries that prevent them from fully enjoying RL. However, in game, they can walk, talk, interact without having to explain or feel pity.
There was a time when the easy out was "its just a game" but the old NES counsel has long since vanished. Now, entire neighborhoods and clubs are built virtually. Social rings and interactions are developed and any loss of such to a person on any level creates unhappiness and resentment. It isn't just a GAME when you invest hours and money into it. These two things represent as I said investment.
While some can go about tossing money and time away like it is nothing (like a friend of mine does with girlfriends), others are wired differently and they choose their spending differently. If you say that he has something wrong with him mentally then I suggest you consider this a class 1 contagion. Thousands are infected. The web is crawling with those who mourn, grieve and smolder from thier loss at the hands of this game. Because it is mass doesn't make it right or wrong but it still validates the belief that there is a problem and a grievance.
