Great, so now it will be possible for a CL1 crafter to get ganked by an elite NPC anytime they go near a starport ::::30::

Sadly, I just spent my afternoon reading through a 13 page thread on their official forums about the upcoming publish and crafters. A recent poll has them as the second most played class but Thunderheart refuses to enter dialogue about future plans. Wish I had kept it open for a direct quote but he believes that starting a dialogue with the crafters would have to be done with a carefully worded approach as to prevent emotion from entering it. He wants the discussion of their future to be approached logically.

I could make a smart ass comment about logic and anything involving SOE's ability to plan but I will  choose to point out that it sounds like he knows what they have in store won't be well received (though it certainly won't be this next publish). Makes you wonder. My regards to Traders. As a vanquished Ranger, I feel their pain.

If you wouldn't mind, could you link to the post you refered too? Since I was a heavy-duty crafter in SWG I'm interested in seeing where it's heading.
I'd appreciate it. I was looking for it but not sure where to look.

    Thanks. ::::02::

Took a few but here is the thread where he posts several times about what I mentioned. All of the thread is a good read...

Currently, I am tearing into this one and it is all about armor changes in the upcoming publish. Crafters are taking it to TH there as well.

TH on the SWG forums said...

For instance, in the time before, crafters focused on all the high end stuff. High quality stuff for high level players at very high prices.

Putting such a heavy emphasis on crafting in the old days caused a really rough issue. Generally speaking, Traders sell the high end stuff to the high end players. Because there are no economic trade limitations (as there are in real-world economies), everyone goes for the high end stuff and what happened is new players and casual players couldn't find the basic stuff they needed to play the game.

The highly active crafters focus on the "glamourous" stuff but so very few ever catered to the new player because it wasn't profitable. 15% of the population selling stuff to a high-end 15% of the population while the other 70% flounder around and can't easily find what they need to get into the action.

As a game, there is a a responsibility to make sure that all players can readily find the basic stuff they need to play the game. Armor, ships, weapons, etc.

What is he SMOKING!? Since I can't reply on the SWG forums I just need to address this.
I played on Eclipse since I came to the game a few months after release. I never had a problem finding low-end items. Now, if this was different on other servers please correct me.
How long did it take them to put in a Auction Search? Eh? Yeah, the guys high on crack.
When I finally got settled and mastered by profs. I would go out of my way to make free lowbie gear for players and I would use good resources so they'd have decent items/weapons/armor. I did this for armor, weapons and in the end spacecraft. I can't even tell you how many heavy sycks, heacy TIEs, and heavy Headhunters I gave away to new guild mates and people that would come into my store looking for things. I was one of the few crafters that actually attended their shop daily. Once or twice a week I'd go out and do my resource runs, etc....
Anyhow, my point is as far as I can tell TH is full of shit about this from my perspective.

TH would swear putting smurfs, Itchy and Scratchy and Homer Simpson in the game would be a good idea if his bosses thought so. He's a "Yes man". He gets paid to take the heat and deliver the crap to everyone out there. Its his JOB. Maybe that makes him a morally weak person for just doing whatever to get some cash but hey... he's got to work somewhere....

As for low level items thats such BS. On my server our guild alone would help out newbs with low level armor, weapons and all that. I never ever had a hard time finding newb weapons or armor to start a new profession with. He is totally full of shat with that statement.

To ANYONE who thinks SWG is doing well:

    http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=swggpdiscussion&message.id=576827

About 10 or the first 15 posts were deleted by TH.

The Mod's are locking ANY post that they consider "trolling", even completely LEGIT posts.

The current attitude of the Dev's & game condition are even beginning to tick off the Fanboi's. Can anyone seriously claim the game is getting better?

The Dev's are still CLUELESS, and this is the team that's supposed to save SWG?

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

SOE have always been very bad forum Nazis. This is just them doing what they do better.
It was actually funny, right after the NGE, they had to call in blackgaurd from EQ2 forums to help with the posts. Especially after they canned Tiggs. He was a deleting/locking/warning freak. ::::15::

They just need to come out and say "Pre-CU will be back in May" or "Go play WoW cuz we the devs think SWG suck."

WOW IS THE BETTER GAME GO PLAY THAT NOW CUZ SWG SUCKS!

Two things stuck out to me in that thread from that guy "Thunderheart"

Because these changes are changes that could be completed in one publish and have a positive impact on a lot of people.

New crafting items are not easy to add. It's just that simple. Adding one or two items that one small group of people can craft and then charge high prices as sell to another small number of players just isn't a fair decision.

This way, more armor gets out to more people, all players can wear a wider variety of armor and really, with the random colors and drops, the munitions traders who get out their and work with their customers stand to make quite a bit of money running a good business.

Translation: We're taking the easy way out and the lazy man's approach to things, and sacrificing the needs of one section of the player base for the wants ofSOME of the larger section of the player base that we just want to hand everything to"

    And then

    This is a great post

We'll be working on the bigger, harder stuff, but the reality is the long winding road of time

    Add-on: ...."at $15 a month".

When you think about it, what SoE has done is really quit ethe marvel. They have forced a game onto people that the people don't like, blatantly tell entire sections of the playerbase to essentially screw off (the traders, in this case), get everyone in an outrage...

And somehow, some way, even after telling everybody that it's going to take a "long winding road of time" to get things right, still get 10 or 20 thousand people to hand them 15 dollars a month for something they aren't enjoying.

It's amazing, really. Someone should do a case study on this phenomenom. SoE might be more genius than anyone ever imagined.

When they came for the Creature Handlers, I said nothing.

When they took the Probots away, I looked the other way.

When they took away eye shot, I pretended to tie my shoe,

When they came for me, I had no one to turn to...

  • LamethrowerLamethrower Member Posts: 82

Ahhhhh Probots. The ONE thing a Droid Engineer could make that people wanted (other than an R2D2--but that was just for aesthetic purposes, not practical). I remember them well. Couldn't build them fast enough...

Then they made their attacks suck and their armor like papier mache. And that was the end of the DE profession.

  • ShaydeShayde Member Posts: 4,529

What they DON'T realize is that they are really shooting themselves in the foot.

    Why?

99.9% of ALL CRAFTERS pre-nge had MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS. Many who still play STILL DO.

I dunno.. I know that I would please the person paying 30 bucks a month or more over the guy paying 15.

TH is an idiot.  There was never any shortage of the low end stuff because that's the stuff we grinded with.  And that stuff was so easy to make that if any noob came to me asking for a low lvl gun, I gave it away for free.  And it always was high quality because of the Exp points.  I don't know any Master Weaponsmith who would charge for the low level stuff.  This is just another excuse to phase out crafters because they are not Star Warsy and Iconic enough.  After all, no one wants to be Uncle Owen right?!   image

SOE knows what you like... You don't!

Um, no :p  Crafters who are grinding use Practice mode as it gives a 5% XP bonus, downfall is it doesn't produce a finished item.  Not sure if that's been around forever though so it might be news to you if you did your grind early on.

I guess it's only "Star Warsy" if it's a world of endless Jedis running around. Because let's face it--without crafters, I'd venture a guess that a full 80% of the players are Jedis.

So making boss mobs attack traders is SOE's answer to the fact theres no low level items for sale? Wouldnt it have been better to give the traders a combat level like entertainers?

    or did I miss something?

Wasnt it SOE that put loads of new loot in the new <30CL quests which means that the newbies didnt need to buy anything from the traders?.......

and Mustafar and Wookie world quests give loot so that the high level players dont need to buy anything from Traders

obviously Traders still had far too many gameplay options open to them so making the boss mobs kill them sorts that little problem out.

  • ObraikObraik Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 7,261
The reason for the boss mob change is because some nubcakes leave their traders at the coal bins in the DWB with a macro to loot the coal bins.  There's also the 'Vette farming too :p

YEEEEES! Finally you show that you don't know what you are talking about!!! I played as a crafter since this game started and I and all my crafter friends crafted low qual stuff too because it sells fast as hell. Lots of nubs and lots of veterans starting new accounts bought these components all the time. I almost earned more money on the shit I crafted! And I never heard people complain about finding nothing. And you know, even a new crafter needs to earn money selling shit stuff on the bazaar. How come you not know that since you have been playing for so long? strange...
