been playing anarchy online for 2 years (loved that game), now bought a new high end pc and want to try a new mmorpg, so whats better swg or horizons??
Actually if you look at the list there are a lot of MMORPGs out or coming out soon. I'll give you some that I've played, so I can give an honest review of them.
Dark Age of Camelot = Some people love it, but I dont. The graphics arent all that innovative, and pretty much your entire time will be spent leveling, which can take months, literally. In fact for a "casual" player, going from level 49 to level 50 can take an entire month in itself. Now, other than leveling, the only other things you can do are crafting and PvE. Crafting isnt really new, and tends to be rather boring (for me at least). PvE is just realm vs realm fighting. Planetside is better for that.
Speaking of which, Planetside = Great for people who are really into First Person Shooters. However, if you're one who gets tired of the same game over and over again, this isnt the game for you. The novelty wears off within a week, leaving only the serious war fanatics and clanners to continue playing in this game. Those who go for that Team feeling will be utterly disappointed, for other than outfits, there is no coordination. The warfare is akin to two groups of Special ed students having a war with each other. For a FPS though it's fun, but unless you purchase the Sony MMO package ($22.95, and allows you to play all their MMOs) it's really not worth the price.
EVE Online = Now I only played this in beta but I can say one thing. PvP. If you dont like getting killed every day by random people who want your stuff, dont play this game.
Neocron = Dont suggest this one. The atmosphere is great, but the problem is, this game has been in beta-like state ever since it was released. Abuse is rampant, as well as PKing. The concept is great, but the way it was run is just horrible
Here are some MMOs you should look at that are not out yet:
City of Heroes World of Warcraft Face of Mankind Dragon Empires Ryzom
what are u talking about PvE is realm vs realm fighting PvE is player vs environment PvP is player vs player and RvR is realm vs realm just wanted to clear that up
Personally from what I heard if your looking to try something right away go with DAOC over SWG or Horizons. It seems like SWG has too many issues, Horizons is too new and has too many issues, especially with lag.
Not to say DAOC doesn't but it is a stable game that has some time under its belt. It is pretty fun, I enjoyed it for a very long time, as it seems I unable to play at this time because of no connection to the internet.

As a former Neocron player, I have to agree. However, my biggest complaint was the lack of players. Every night on DAoC or EverQuest you will find 1500+ players on most servers. I have never seen more than 1000 on all Neocron servers combined, including the French and German servers. The code is buggy, but certainly playable. It gets extremely boring at the upper levels since there is nothing to do but PK.

Geez, thats like saying dislocated shoulder or groin pull!
Played SWG. Bleh. Lots of crafting. Not much swashbuckling.
Horizons is apparently doing the opening month meltdown that is so common for small vendor MMORPGs.
I liked DAOC, but you need to pick one of the three most populated servers, or you'll be struggling to find groups and crafters to make your equipment.
Originally posted by Dalavari Well I am not familiar with SWG or HORIZON, but I do know at least three games that are exceptional MMORPGs. (Personal Opinion) Released
Well apparently you don't know that star wars galaxies is a good game because SWG = star wars galaxies. If i had to choose swg or DAoC i would go DAoC but that game only lasted me 1 month. My current game is FFXI and i don't want to jinx anything, but so far it's been a blast.
I played SWG, not much there. I would recommend trying Horizons. I never see any lag issues on DSL, and it's pretty stable on my system. I guess mileage will vary though.
I definitely would recommend HZ over SWG though... (Check out the SWG and HZ forums on this site, some info there)

Give SWG a try!
I would at least give SWG or DAOC a try.
Unfortunetly I have experienced and read (mostly within this community) that SWG leaves a lot to be desired.

Pick SWG!!
I heard more bad things about Horizons than SWG
All of the mobs in HZ look the same and feel the same when attacking each one...
