DK you have overlooked the biggest flaw in SWG and that is not just current bug ridden code but a well known history of incomplete/buggy publishes and expansions.
The #1 reason Blizzard has done so well is the sheer level of Polish, if players had encountered in WoW what they have in SWG it would have crashed and burned as bad or even worse then SWG has.
Until SOE figures out that Quality>Quantity they are doomed to failure, 100's of quests are rather pointless if most of them don't work .

I do understand your point and know SOE'S reputaion from bringing half done Pub to the mrket. I have been dealing with SOE for over 4 year so i know.
My point is that the potential in SWG is unlimite if a good Developer Team pick up the game and take it time in fixing the inmense amount of bug and broken quest that the game has at the moment. I do believe that SWG could be better than WoW.
Pre-CU, the only real complaints I heard a lot were bugs, lack of content, and CS that was completely not helpful and sometimes rude. The first two were mainly becuase the devs were incompetent and couldn't write a program to get out of a paper bag, the other part was SOE management throwing untested publishes out. Early on it wasn't as bad as later, but there were still lots of bugs not fixed and very little content. Over time, the dev teams have seemed to get more and more incompetent.
WoW has polish. Most players will not notice bugs. In SWG, you would hit very bad bugs within the first day. The only things that stopped pre-CU from taking off like crazy were bugs, lack of content, terrible CS, and a crappy new player tutorial.
SWG Tempest: Cardo Dycen RIP Eve: Cardoh Dycen I support random drug testing for all SOE employees

One other thing that is impressive about WoW is how well they focus on trying to fix what few bugs and annoyances there are. For example, WoW just had a publish come out today that made it so you could select a final destination when taking a flightpath so it automatically connects you at each stop along the way. A truly minor thing that I never even considered, but brilliant when you think about it. SWG just never reached this level of detail and even had many embarrassing screwups that lasted so long they were a running joke (Imperial hats anyone?)
Granted WoW now probably has the capital to hire as many people as necessary to code such things, but when you get right down to it the problem is leadership and direction...not how many developers you have. WoW has a firm grasp on the direction they plan to take their game and SWG never did.
If you have the time I suggest you go to WoW's site and just read their publish notes. It is absolutely impressive how ambitious their publishes are...and they usually work with very few problems.
swg is and was a true gamers dream, then the dream ended with the cu [take note it is ppronounce see you] , In a bid for cash and bigger crowds, they ripped and abused the main elements.
the game was far beyond grind, it was explore, it was make friends.. hell you needed soe things just could not be done alone...
it had vendors that worked hard at seling stuff.. full effecti good luck where ever you are!
the crafter dancers and other things added to the mix.. it was close to a real world... with ups and downs.. and lives lived.
greed is what killed swg and human stupidity...
wow is about bright toonz.. and just about close to rave chat system..
it is simple easy and hence the kiddiez in it, but there is also a huge huge swg refugee population there and like the rebellion have dispersed to the ends of the gamin universe...
hence the game reflects the movie...
in a gaming galaxie far far away.. an evil system called soe wageswar with the gamers ... and other mmorpgs... one stands out above all and that is wow..
Originally posted by Rekrul There is one and only one thing that makes WoW a game it is.Millions upon millions of dolars spent on polish, playtesting and usability. There was an article analyzing the success of WoW, and that's all it came down to. They had their design, concepts, prototypes, and much more, but in the end, they let tons of people just test and tweak everything into oblivion, until it played as it should. It offers nothing new conceptually. It introduces no unique concepts. It's the same old game with same old problems. But Blizzard spent tons of cash making it look and feel just right. When was last time SWG ever bothered to do anything to actually fix bugs, playability and/or accesiblity issues. Why do people say in WoW you get to 60 and then there's nothing to do except instances? Because that's exactly what WoW is about. But they do an incredible job at hiding that from players. WoW is just plain old level/gear grind with no substance as many other games. But majority of players does not see it.Isn't this what the games are about? Having fun while playing, who cares if it's grind in disguise, or just a glorified EQ1.
Imagine if pre-cu swg was run the way blizzard runs Wow?
