It worked in Neocron and it will work in Fallen Earth. That's what I was waiting for: A successor for my old Neocron.
Click&Wait like every other MMO is SOOOO boring. If you like it, you have many alternatives. But for people who liked Games like Neocron, it's THE GAME they were waiting for, it's almost unique in this business.
I will defeat you all in gun kata, for I am teh Grammaton Cleric.
Waiting For: something good Games Tried: SWTOR, Star Trek Online, EQ, EQ2, Earth and Beyond, Planetside, Lineage 2, Eve Online, WoW, City of Heroes, City of Villians, Auto Assault, Fallen Earth Star Wars: Galaxies - Ibra Olasi (Valcyn Server) [Dead, screw you SOE]
I'm basically a fan of keeping FPS and RPG separate. I enjoy both types of games, but they just don't seem to mesh well. Look at how they ruined SWG with trying to bring twitch into the RPG environment.
At the very least, if they're going to bring a FPS perspective into the combat of an RPG, PLEASE make it realistic. Being able to jump all over the place and rocket-jump over targets while shooting at everything that moves is just plain stupid in a role playing environment. I used to be a huge fan of Rogue Spear in the FPS genre mainly because they had guns based on real, existing weapons and the movement was realistic.
You get hit, you die. No super armor boost-ups to make you invulnerable for 60 seconds. No BFG's that would blast a hole through the planet but take two hits to kill the bot coming after you. No jumping around like you have fire-ants in your shorts. Keep the movement "normal" let armor reflect on damage taken by body region. Head shots kill... done. Body armor may give you one or two hits before you go down. Damage taken affects your movement and ability to continue fighting (accuracy?)
If you have to try and mix the styles, just do it intelligently.
Well, I do agree that they need to keep the combat realistic. However, I am a big proponent of combining RPGs and shooters. System Shock 2 did this awesomely, and did horror better than any game I've ever seen. Also, look at GTA: San Andreas, there is a huge RPG element to this shooter. The two mesh very well, you just have to know what you're doing when you mesh them.

Originally posted by admriker444 I guess I just assumed this game was going to be a classic rpg with turn based combat and auto locked target. Then someone posted elsewhere that it would be a FPS. Personally, FPS doesnt make sense to me. The game was inspired by the Fallout series, a classic RPG. Thoughts ?
i read some interview and the dev guy said it would FPS with ranged weapons and 3rd person for melee weapons which is interesting indeed

Id suggest folks try this type of combat out with a game that is currently using this combat system with melee combat, Gunz online. Free to play and a sweet little open beta, just have to watch out for the hackers, but that's usually easy enough to do. Gunz online is not complete or on par with what Fallen Earth has to offer in content, its just a pub setting similar to a normal FPS multiplayer game with chat, and rooms ( game sessions you can create or join in on). Your allowed to buy equipment etc. check it out for a feel of what Fallen Earth and the dozens of games in Development using FPS game mechanics will have to offer in the way of game play.
Now that Internet connection speed and general computer technology has increased, the way of point and click, and turned based combat we have been force-fed from developers over and over can now be improved. Either gamers will adapt, most serious gamers can and have, or you can remain stuck in the past.
I'm ok with having some elements of FPS combat as long as they do it well. For example, don't have it anything like the "FPS" system in NGE SWG. The person who mentioned Deus Ex being a good combination of RPG and FPS made a very good point. That games skill modifiers made a big difference, and I assume the level of character complexity and variety of skills in Fallen Earth will be much higher than Deus Ex. If the combat system isn't all about who can move their mouse a little better and who has a faster computer and internet connection, but uses a lot of character mods coupled and maybe some "real time turn based" like Fallout Tactics, along with the necessity of actually targeting and firing yourself, I think it could be great. Another game coming out that looks like it may have a combat system similar to this is Huxley, which looked pretty cool to me also.

My 2 cents...
