Hello Everyone,
Ok I am frustrated with reading about the saga of a once great game. I will still hold out hope for the original SWG but until then I was kind of curious how many woman actually played the game. Are we really a minority amongst the gaming crowd? Perhaps maybe its due to the fact that I am a bit of a geek and I work in IT.
The funny thing is that with voice chat programs alot of the guys that may have been flirting with some hot looking Zabrak later hooked up with said person on voice chat and about spit out his beer when he learned it was another dude ROFLMAO
Having tried out alot of different games since the NGE I have found that there are alot of guys that play female characters. They say if I am gonna be looking at some toons butt all the time I want it to at least be pleasuarble lol. Thats cool but even when I played SWG I really didnt run into all that many woman. Just curious how many of us are out there.

Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...
Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.
Ive got an excellent video in my archives honoring the Maidens of SWG. Cant remember where I got it, but it was a vid made on the Starstrider server. You may have seen it before, it has the song "Waiting for a hero" sung by Jennifer Saunders (from absolutly fabulous).
This web site was on the credits, I havent checked if the website is still there, but here it is: www.thm.com
If anyone is interested in this well made vid, shoot me a PM and let me know where to upload it (its about 50 megs)
I'm an ex-SWG player and I am female. I played on the Tarquinas server and our guild had like a dozen female players in it. Besides SWG, DAoC and EQII had a good amount of female players. Now in the game of Planetside I knew of maybe 8 total other females that actually played the game - two were in my outfit. One was married to an outfit mate and the other was a friend or another. In another outfit there was a female gamer that met her soon to be husband. She had joined his outfit, they hit it off and the next thing you know they are getting married.
I know the game of WoW has a good number of female players and L2 does as well.
So we might not out number the guy gamers yet, but our numbers are rising.
My guild on Bria had some female members.
Btw, what game is that in the screenshot?

Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.
Morning Raven
A lot females played SWG (as WoW btw).
Sure, some guys played female toons too, but normaly they said when u asked.
Only the "roleplayers" *cough* didnt say...but thats another topic (see the thread "WHY?").
I met many females ingame and i liked their special way of adding to the community very much.
There were a lot guilds MOSTLY "hosting" females (e.g. entertainer guilds) and we had some in our guild too.
It is like in reallife:
All the boyz/men in the club...that is quite different from a day on the streetfest with the girls
Sometimes you meet some1 you play/mess/tease around with. This is a special addition to the community making it exciting, its kinda thrill.
I know players married today, met ingame once.
You will meet the female gamer mostly, where the game is "appropiate".
You wont meet that many in "Doom", but in Sims2 or City of H/V.
A real naughty place is "Second life" - very many girls there, but mostly its all about being naughty.
Not really a game, more a sim.
For some1 with experience and sensitive enough to pay attention to it, it is very easy to "hear" if some1 is a girl or just a fake, trying to "sound" like a female.
Raven, i dont think you "should" think in terms of " Are we really a minority amongst the gaming crowd?", rather then "Are we really the icing on the cake, turning the "mensclub economy" to the community we all love, making it a living one?"
Thats more appropiate to me

Well, I've been a woman ever since I can remember, and I played SWG till a week ago today *sniff*. I've met plenty of women in the game, and plenty who looked like women but who weren't. I sort of think too the voice recognition software will kill off the disguise types. My granny what a deep voice you have! I thought guys always pretty much gave themselves away when they ran female avatars, either immediately or in just a bit of conversation.
I think as more and more guys play games, more women will too, just in order to share the time with their beloved hottie. The mmorpgs, especially on a console (where you can share the game via two controllers or a LAN) are I think, a good bet for being the type of game couples can play together. The woman can have help right next to them, feel secure, join in a group, meet people, get the social interaction they crave. The guy gets to play his game without feeling eyes glaring into his back or the phone ringing saying where are you why aren't you paying attention to me?
Athela
LMAO !!
This is something, independent from games, which should be cleared early anyway
Good answer always is:
"WTH you think im doing ? You shouldnt ask WHAT i am doing, you should wonder WHY i am playing rather then spending time with you. So head out, buy me some roses, charter the table at the best restaurant in town, have the bedroom setup with candles and nice music when we return and i MIGHT consider letting the gamepad being a gamepad for today....till then, work on your flaw"

I really did enjoy my SWG days when the PA always had folks doing crafting in their homes so always had someone to talk to while I was making droids or tailoring. Started with 1 account loved it so much I got a second then evntually a third account. I didn't last long after the CU and have tried the NGE 2 times but there was nothing to keep me in game after that.
Actually the PA fell apart pretty much within the first 2 weeks of CU.
I knew other women who played, some on Starsider, some on Naritus, some on Ahazi and some on Eclipse. I know they were women because I'd spoken to them on voicechat or spoken to them face to face. Some didn't PLAY females. For all the same reasons I don't always play females -- and yes, sometimes it IS more enjoyable to see someone of another gender gyrating on the monitor, just as sometimes it is more enjoyable to NOT recieve the kind of attention that females get in games.
Sure, the gaming community is proliferated with stealth sausages, and sure it confuses the issue. But women HAVE been entering the game arena over the years, and we have become a market to be harvested, just like the guys. But unlike the guys, the companies vying for our cash don't have a clue what it is we want -- and some of them act very much as if we didn't actually exist -- which is very VERY foolish, as we are not only players, we are often the arbiters of where the family money goes.
There are plenty of girls on the intraweb.
Boys aren't always boys, girls aren't always girls and underaged girls are always trouble, even the ones that aren't FBI agents.

Az, would you be so kind and join me in my office please....wicked woman....

No no hun, you dont trick me...not ME (but its ok...)

That screenshot is from the game I am currently playing, Lineage 2. Its not a bad game, it has good graphics and if your into pvp well then this is the place for you , its open pvp all the time. I myself never did much pvp and find I can have a blast with the pve aspects of the game.
As you can see from the pick I have a wolf (actually I have 2 now). I was a MCH and heard you could have pets so that was a draw for me. They are hard as **** to level though. I now have several pets and one includes my dragon hatchling with is pretty cool. I just miss the old SWG sandbox. Hack and slash, get xp, hack and slash etc... You get my drift, seems that is how all of the games are going now.
Well it does seem our numbers are not very high but women are playing more and more and its great that they are. Yeah some guys just dont have what it takes to fool you though while still yet other males do a pretty good job at convincing you that the female avatar is actually being run by a female. lol
Seems to me I remember some ppl on my server getting the wedding rings and seeing if they could get married as two male toons and I think if I am not mistaken it worked roflmao. SWG definately had a great community. I find it hard to find the community aspect such as we had in any other game.

WooooHoooo!!!
Ravensong you are one SECSAY lady!
My wife played SWG and belive me she was the biggest flirt I ever saw! (She insisted on 2 accounts btw)
She is waiting for STO now but is considering VAnguard cause one of her "roll playing guy friends" is going to be there...*cough*
I know I may be the odd man out, but I played for 2+ years and EVERY single woman I *cough* flirted with and got to know turned out to be a woman...(a bunch)...
Out of dozens of ladies I met and became game friends with, only 2 of the "female" toons were men (I can hear some of you saying , no they just tricked you into thinking they were women...not so..vent,yahoo cameras, and the good old fashioned telephone do not lie) Met SEVERAL in real life too!...all GREAT people!!! awesome friends!
The guild I was in on Bria had nearly as many women as men! and our guild leader was as hot a woman as they come! (trust me I met her! lol)
I always play a guy, and a very obvious one at that! lol...I prefer the comapany of REAL women, not girls or boys playing girls.
there...my 2 cents....in conclusion...more women than you may think.
Faxx of Bria.
Well thank you Faxx. SWG was the first MMO I ever really played and on Ahazi I truely only met about 3-4 real women and couldnt be sure on the rest. I thought perhaps we were a larger minotrity then really is the case.
Having a network with 14 nodes setup at home (I know uber geeky..lol) We used to host LAN parties and I was the only female in the room. A ruthless one at that playing such games such as Ghost Recon, Tactical Ops, Joint Operations, Half Life, SOAF and the list goes on lol.
I am a bit of a tomboy though in real life. I live in North Pole, Alaska for the moment (soon to be moving to the lower 48..woot sunshine). We have upwards of 23 hours of daylight in the summer and I used to go play paintball out in the woods with a great group of ppl. I earned the name Killer Mana for my ruthless style game play.

hey, you got mail.

I was friends with several awesome women on Eclipse and knew of many, many others that played as well. They were guild leaders, weaponsmiths, tailors, mayors, pvp'ers, rp'rs and much more.
In every game ive tried since, i dont think ive met more then 5 women who play them and coincidently, i dont think those communities hold a candle to swg's.
As far as men playing women characters, i know that there is an obsession with the female body in all parts of the media and i can see why a man would be fascinated by playing a woman. It just annoys me that the steryotype about women being gold diggers in mmo's are mostly perpetuated by men who play female toons. I hate getting stuff given to me just because my toon has breasts and i know alot of my female friends feel the same.
Nine times out of ten, a naked female night elf dancing on a mailbox talking about her lesbian lover is a man trying to get tips. The real women are more likely to be kicking ass in a bg or leading a guild raid.
For the Horde!
I asked a guildie in WOW why it is that he used a female toon all the time, his answer was simple "would you want to look at the backside of a male toon while you are playing countless hours, or look at a female backside"...I tend to agree with him:)
For the Horde!
I started playing a female toon out of one reason: The male's reproducing instinct.
It's no secret that playing a female toon, gives you many advantages.
You have to be goodlooking though or the effect isn't the same.
It might be a virtual world but real life instincts stay the same for the humans controlling the toons.
Looking good will never be a disadvantage in a game or real life.
So I was very aware of details when creating my toon.
Facial features, make up and of course the chest part of my toon, wich was not maxed out.
I mean, we've all seen the female toons with a chest maxed to the limit.
How to dress?
Simple, do not dress like a slut.
Running around in a bikini all the time is something only a male player would choose.
I had "walk in closets" in the shape of houses to store all my outfits.
Used to change my outfit every day at least.
I never used leet speak ( i hate it) when talking to people in spatial, tells or guild chat.
I didn't swear, used /lick on every female dancer or sent people tells like: r u really a girl???:-P
So many people asked me if I'm a female in RL.
So yes, I played a female toon for all the benefits.
It was worth it, I'll tell ya.
Men...you gotta love 'em!
