lol thanks. Yeah when I started L2 and got my level up to 15 and could finally do the wolf quest there was never any question in my mind what I would name him. They killed my MCH so at least now I can still have a pet.
Originally posted by MrRose Hey i played swg since start on the Eclipse server we where only a swedish guild, that lateron merged with DEATH or AND for a while. It was a hugh guild and the leaders where womans that was nice. I hope there will be more and more ladys ingame. Ikario/Jina
Thats really cool and from all the posts I have read so far it appears there were more women running around then I thought. The thing that sparked my attention in your post is that it was an all Swedish guild. My hubby is Swedish. Just out of curiosity cause I know how the hubbys mind works, did you all have a lot of crafters in your guild or were they mainly fighters?
I'm female and played SWG from Beta, off and on (more on than off) until the NGE. Helped several friends in the pre-CU grind to achieve jedi although I never did it myself - probably because I had helped several friends - been there done that, I suppose. I was very casually banking experience towards jedi when the NGE bomb exploded - hung around for a while trying to play the game and gave up, cancelling all my accounts. I still miss the game and the friends I had there, but it will be a cold day in hell before I play another SOE game.

Heya... I played SWG for almost 3 years on the Kauri server. We actually had a fair share of women on that server (well the ones who came into voice chat anyways). As far as guys playing female toons, dont know what to tell ya about that one... They jsut make more tips in the cantinas than guy dancers.. lol
what was your characters name? i used to play on there my name was Saphiredragon and XgeneX
Playing: EVE Online Favorite MMOs: WoW, SWG Pre-cu, Lineage 2, UO, EQ, EVE online Looking forward to: Archeage, Kingdom Under Fire 2 KUF2's Official Website - http://www.kufii.com/ENG/ -
The top 3 male avatars tanks on a FFXI server I was on were really female plalyers. The top 3 female avatar tanks on the server were male players.
There was a short study by some colelge group that also indicated that the majority of female avatars in almost any game with pig-tails was really a guy, but the female avatars with short hair were usually girls.
I gotta see if i can find that info again. But it is really kinda weird and unique to the MMO player.

Well there were a total of 9 accts in our house but my main was named Ravensong. My avatar is from the game. I was Doc/TKM and met a lot of ppl in the cantina when I first started out as an entertainer and then when I became Doc I met a lot of ppl out at the village. I spent I dont know how many phases out there during the Sith attacks just to help other ppl get the phase done. I would buff and rez and kill the thugs so they could get the priates. Never made Jedi but had 7 unlocks. I dont know that I would have went Jedi all the way either since I enjoyed being a doc to much.
A few of my other characters were:
Ravenspirit - Master Tailer/Weaponsmith
Onatah - MCH/MBE
Ooolala - Entertainer/ID
I also took over playing my sons character Auto (wookie). He stopped playing with the cu then he finally came back and tried to play when the cu hit.

lmao Thats kinda funny about the study. If you happen to find it I would like to read it. Of all the various hair styles in the game I never have liked the pigtails.
SWG being my first MMO, I wasnt used to the whole guys playing female toons thing. So I got really tired of getting questioned by every guy that came by if I was really a girl, like it was any of their damn business anyway. It got so old that for several months I played a male toon on a new server just for some peace and quiet. Eventually, I missed the friends I made on my original server though so I rerolled as a female wookie and a female mon cal. This cut way down on the constant questioning. Seems you cut out the T & A and you get alot less harrassment, imagine that. LOL
Im sure no one is particuarly interested in my diatribe, but I feel better now after sharing. Thanks, yay me....

ROFLMAO I hear ya there. I know I got a lot of that also. The game I am playing now (L2) is full of scantilly clad woman and I would think the majority of them are really guys but I get that there also, the questions of are you really female but not nearly as much as I did in SWG. Now that I think about it though, after someone talked with me for a bit they didnt question it anymore. You can kinda spot the guys playing girls but some are really good at it and it always leaves ya wondering.
Guess they are just in touch with their inner femine self Here is a clicky for ya - its my tribute to SWG (Tribute Link)
Trying to find a reference to a study of gender/roles in MMO's that I read a while back.
Basically said that players, of either gender, who are looking for an action based hack and slay approach tend to go for male avatars, those who are interested in the mrore social / cerebral side go for female toons.
So you get the uberleet commando 'guy' with the 'girl' dancer / crafter alts.
Of course, the actual player could be either male or female but it was the gameplay style associated with a gender stereotype that they were drawn to. 'course, then you toss in the LaraCroft wannabes and the Zoidberg/Brainiac techy crafters and it all shoots out the window anyhow.
(BTW< if anyone wants to shell out to cover my fees, I'm looking for a PhD paper to do "soon")

I always found it pretty easy to tell who was really female or not, but It never mattered to me as long as they were decent. Addtionally, and upon further thought.....It always cracked me up the guys who would flirt even though I was Wookie or MonCal. I figured I could reward their roleplaying, (god I hope they were roleplaying) with a little friendly flirtaition. I really never minded any of it too much as long as it stayed good natured which most were.
Great pic on you link.....Thats from Lineage 2 ? If so, tell me a lil more about it. Just a fill in till you find a real home, or worth looking into?

As stereotypes go, those sound pretty reasonable. Of course, there are exceptions to everything, which seemed ot be saying as well. Personally, I never really understood the hangup so many guys had with the whole question. When I was flirting with a guy or girl, I was never really trying to figure out what was really on the other end ( I always felt like I knew though). I was always more interested in making friends and having a good time.
Regardless, I think your study makes good points about whichever gender more or less roleplaying the stereotype of the character they want to play.

Hello,
Yes that screen shot is from L2. Currently a group of us from my old guild are there and we are having fun with it. As for it being my new home.......it is for now. Ive tried everything out that you can imagine: RF / FOM / DaOC / COH/COV the list goes on. Its not a sandbox style game like the old SWG and I dont really think there are any out yet like that but I hold out hope.
Here is a breif overview from a former SWG player on L2
Do you like PvP? This game is PvP 24/7 and you cant turn it off. Just think about everyone is SWG running around on Special Forces's all the time. I am not much of a PvP player and there are other things to do as far as PVE in this game but just know that at anytime some one can come up and smack you.
Do you want to craft? Yep there is crafting but not nearly as immersive as SWG. Dwarfs are the crafters although everyone has the ability to make certain items the dwarfs are the money makers in this game.
Can you have multiple characters on the same server? Yes, up to 7.
Can you fish and have pets? Yes. I missed my MCH and the first thing I did when I got to level 15 was get a wolf in L2. You can also get a dragon hatchling and level it into a strider which is a mount.
I know its kind of hard not to compare but once you found a game style you like then are forced to find something else and everything else pales in comparrison its just hard not to make judgements. I dont post much as you can see from my registration date and the number of posts that I have. I do most of my posting while at work...Shhhh dont tell the boss lol I prefer to spend my time in game.
If you are interested in checking out L2 and have played COH/COV before that game box should have had a 14 day trial key with it for L2. From this post I met another refugee and he just came over to the game last night and so far he said it was pretty cool.
If you want more info and have ventrilo we host a server, feel free to pop in and we can tell you the good the bad and the ugly about this game. Just send me an email and I can give you the IP for the server. Also another place you might want to check out is their webpage to get an idea of what the game play is like: Lineage II Homepage
We play on the Sieghardt server and that is our home for now.
It sounds interesting, I have never been a PVP nut. I could usually hold my own, but prefer it to be part of my experience not the end all be all of my gaming. I think thats the real deal with me, I like a little of everything, but not all of anything. Hmm...anyway, I think I will look into it, it could be a reasonable alternative until RV or Vanguard, or maybe even Dark and Light come along.
In case you cant tell Im pretty confused where to go right now. I just know im not quite drunk enough to log into WOW which I hate, I dont have the patience to try yet another random free trial, and am way too bored to try and play another game of Civ 4.
Anyway, cool wolf....and cheers.
