Perhaps the reason they don't roll back now is for the same reasons we are guessing they aren't releasing another expansion. Maybe they burnt their last budget candle and are just letting this one burn down to the nub. I can't imagine them going to the keeps of the coffers saying, "Yeah, we KNOW that we have overhauled the entire game twice but how about giving us some extra budget so we can do it again. This time it will be different. This time we will code it to be like the first system that we released."
That and the fact that it would make all of those currently pushing the NGE look like complete fools (actually perhaps I should have used the word prove) - so they most likely would have to leave. SO you now have the cost of a recode and the effort of replacing staff for a company that seems to be hell bent on letting this game die and yet be milked for all its worth while its in its demise.

I agree with Dunc completely. Right now LA and SOE are trying to change their image every way they can so they can sit back and say "See, we care about the players. Here is the proof". It's a damage control move by them and nothing more.

According to Smed (in the post a thon a couple weeks back) that they aren't doing an expansion this year but that they will be adding a lot of content (amounting to an expansion) to the core game for free, starting with a GCW "themepark" that is coming in Pub 29.
TOOW was a good expansion, way better than ROTW, but I definately don't like how you MUST have Mustafar loot (even for a lightsaber) in order to be able to compete in PvP. I also believe that they ultimately lost money on that expansion, as basically everyone who wanted a refund could get it refunded, and I bet a LOT of those who cancelled in November (more people likely quit that month than we still have playing today) got refunds.
Still, the best SWG expansion was and will probably always be JTL, as it actually added something to the game that it didn't have: space and space combat.
IMHO, given the state the game was at NGE release, with so much broken and missing, that they even wasted 2-3 months even WORKING on an expansion before dropping it was insane, and more proof of horribly bad management at SOE.
Basically they finally realized that they have a player base that is angry enough at them for the current state of the game to burn their building down and saw that releasing another expansion would just further infuriate people.
