Earth and Beyond, help make EA give it a second look!

Hello guys,

There has been a lot of buzz in the Earth and Beyond community lately.  EA reps have made some posts on one of their forums regarding the interest that's still around this discontinued MMORPG.  The game has been dead for 1.5 years, however there are still people interested in playing it.  With the current lack of sci-fi MMORPGs, this one could really fill the void that a lot of people have experianced.  Think EVE, but a lot more fast paced and in a way a lot more fun.  This MMORPG had it all:  great mining system, dynamic battle system, decent amont of exploration content, a continuing story line, endless items, super ubers (one per server almost) and a beautiful PvE (some PvP) enviroment and emphesized team play.  You can read up more on it here:  IGN reviewed at 8.8.

And this is what some of other reviewers had to say about it:  From Rpgplanet.

The outgoing topic of interest is happening on the EA's forums here:  EA forum, "Reopening Earth and Beyond ?".

There is even an ongoing effort to try to put together an emulator for it, but it's been met with limited success.  That's how much some people are dedicated to this game.  People are even trying to use free MMORPG engines to try to put together a game like EnB once was.  This game such hardcore following that it would really be worth brining back.  If you're interested, go to the EA's forum topic and make a post to support the game.  Not sure what else we can do.  One of the community memebers is try to put together a mailing effort to (snail) mail EA into trying to persuade them into brining this game back.  If you want to help, please look at his efforts here:  Form post at enbexiles.com.

I personally love this game and I still miss it.  I have yet to find a game to replace the void that EnB has left us.  Please look into this and support the community.  If a lot of people combine their voices perhaps EA will listen.  Thank you very much for reading,

My character in EnB:

Andromeda Galaxy

Admiral Sheryl (lvl150+ TE)

I would play E&B if it had a PvP System and not the leveling treadmill where the higher your level is, the stronger your character is and you can beat down anyone that has a lower level than you. Though E&B may require for you to not go solo.

Earth and Beyond is by far the best game ever made, and I would absolutely start playing it again.
And MagicStar, I can't really follow what you're saying. You say that a lvl 50 something shouldn't be better than a lvl 1. How does that make sence? The whole purpose of levels is, that you get better the higher level you get.

Regarding PvP...  Basically PvP was there in place from maxed out players to duke it out in the arena.  On our server, we had a lot of tournaments and things of such sort.  It was a lot of fun.  But you are right, a level 125 would always lose to level 150.  But 150 vs 150 was lots of fun.

I was one of those playing E&B from the first day.

Frankly i must say i found it pretty boring game. the travel times were not very different from EVE, the grind was quite present and it did not felt very different from a traditional MMorpg but that you didn't have so much variety. Aye, you heard me well, class abilities were limited and you had virtually no customization of the ship available. the ship hull would evolve in a new stage after XX levels and then do it again... and that was about it.

I stopped playing it couple months later. 3 of the 9 promised classes were still not done, but of course i did not follow the game much after that.

So maybe they did something good about it. I know it had an ongoing storyline but, as usually happens, we never got involved in it.

I would absolutely play EnB again. It was the best mmorpg I have ever played and nothing to date has compared yet.

You lot are better off subscribing to JumpGate, or Vendetta Online, both are now much better games now than E'n'B, solely because they have had 1.5 years of development more than E'n'B.

I've never played the game,  I was around for it's death and followed the news, but I cannot give my opinion on it except that I am not interested in sci-fi or space themed games.

I view EA lower than SoE and that's saying alot for someone who well you get the idea. At least SoE don't go around buying companies that have a loyal fanbase and then shut down any projects they are working on or make half-decent attempts. I was a big fan of Origin, Bullfrog and Westwood Studios works then EA got their claws into them. EA stopped 2 versions of an updated Ultima Online ffs. Their business tactics and their lack of loyalty; you know I'm disguisted. My dislike of SoE pales into insignifance against my genuine hatred of EA: they are NOT good for gamers.

I feel so sorry for the people who like the game and I feel sorry for the developers but... All you'd want to be in such a game is allready in EVE. Sad but true.

  • kabishmannkabishmann Member Posts: 3

Why is a game better because it has had a longer development time? I can't see how those two things have anything to do with each other.

Tried EVE, it sucks big time.
Sure, you can be both miner, fighter, trader and all that, but that will take several years to become only decent in all of them. You can make more than one char, but that won't help you in any way, unless it's on another account. And if I started now, and only went after one of the "classes", I would never be able to become as powerful as the players who have been there for years, and for a PvP game, that's really bad.
If you want to accomplish anything you have to, sooner or later, move to the areas where people can just kill you, and if you're not the PvP type, then where's the fun in that?
I could actually go on and on about bad things in EVE, but I might aswell stop now.

Just one last thing, EVE can in no way replace EnB.

If you want to get into a space game that is just as dynamic as E&B was then you should be playing  X3 Reunion.

Sure the game launched full of bugs but the devs at EGOSOFT have their act together. In its 4 patch most if not all bugs are gone.

Hire pilots to work for you, build space stations, trade ,explore, take over sectors by destroying other stations or just overrun the competition with economic warfare.

High resolution graphics and joystick supportwhat more could you ask for in a space sim?

Yeah but is X3 Reunion a multiplayer?

Just because this is a community dedicated to mmo(and somewhat multiplayer) gamers.

No it is not multiplayer but you would be surprised at its depth. The good news is that EGOSOFT is working towards an mmo goal. With each new "X" game it just gets better and better.

Since ive been playing X3 ive not missed ANY mmo.

Not only that but im actually as excited to play this as i was my 1st mmo.

If you want a good 3D space sim this is the way to go they even released a playable demo.

I've heard that there is an mmo in the works for these type of series since the release of X2 the Threat(the current game I have though I have not touched this game in ages).

Their online working title is Online Universe. Though the X Universe focuses more on building empires on a long term than just the common player flys one ship at a time, earn credits to get another ship or upgrades which unfortunitly I am a fan of.

I also went and search on their community forums and they say that the Online Universe is still years off.

p.s. I notice some and the latest X Games have some kind of star-force copy-protection to it, I guess it will make people think twice before going for it because everyone hates star-force.

Back to E&B, Despite the unsatasfied gameplay, the MMO had somewhat a good storyline on top of it as well.

I mean X3 is cool and all, but it's not a MMORPG.  If it was, would be nice, but no such luck.  I need my sci-fi fix and EVE is not it for me.  Too slow for my liking.  SWG is crappy, MXO is dead, haven't tried Vendetta Online yet though...  But from all the MMORPGs I tried, EnB topped all of them.
  • XenduliXenduli Member Posts: 654

X3 isn't cool, it's crap. All they have done is tidied up the interface from X2. The original X was the best, heck even X2 was better. X3 is buggy and the story sucks. That's all game companies seem to want to do these days, make beuatiful looking screensavers.

umm E&B is pretty much a shit version of eve. infact 24 hours after purchasing E&B i had purchased eve, and eve is many many thousands of times better in every way.

I played EnB and I liked it alot.....but i would never go back.Main reason is they already ditched us once already......and at a time when membership was growing.Another reason being is that I think Eve is a superior game on many levels.Yes i agree Eve has it's lulls, but so did EnB....like mindlessly doing thing just to lvl up.Eve's traing system is the way to go and if you get in a good Corporation,it's alot of fun

    LOL!!!!!

I'm sorry, I've played both E&B and Jumpgate.  To say that Jumpgate is a better game than E&B was is like saying a Chevette is better than a Lotus Elise (My dream car).

I'm NOT saying that E&B is or Was the Lotus Elise of MMO's I'm just saying it's that much better than JumpGate.  I'm sorry.  I liked jumpgate but even at $9.95 a month it isn't worth the subscription.  It's a very old and dated game, graphically and it's environment is limiting and not too fun.  Witness the meagre population and subscriber numbers it "boasts" as testament to that fact.

As to Vendetta?  Don't know, never tried it.  I'll give it a whirl though and see what it's about before passing judgement.
