MagnumII, I can see you obviously are enjoying the game and feel compelled to share your joy with others in an attempt to repopulate a troubled game. I used to feel that way....before the darktimes....the NGE.
While I cannot fault you for enjoying the game because you are new to it, you cannot expect the tens of thousands of players that left the game to be all that willing to return given the game's history. This game is not a even a mere shadow of what it once was. The dumbing down of the game made it virtually impossible for those of us who enjoyed a challenging and diverse game to play anymore. Much of the effort we put into the game over two years was obliterated by the NGE. The underhanded business dealings and shoddy customer service of SOE were sore points for thousands. The total disregard for the entire established playerbase was rubbing salt into the wound.
SWG (NGE version) was promised to be complete within 6 months...where is it now at the 5 month mark? More fixes and content is slated well into 2007, and it still will never be as good as it once was. I can only suggest you read the other threads in this forum to get an idea what was ripped away from SWG and you will get a more clear picture of why the majority of vet players will not return and why some of us are so 'bitter'.
I hope you continue to enjoy the game and never have to endure the 'difficulties' SOE foisted upon the players of the pre-NGE era.
I want to say that SWG was my first MMO of all time and from all my experience was far the best one.
But one day they start changing the game more and more. Many ppl lost interest in the game. I quit after the game became a Jedi PvP game, they try to save it with the NGE. For the new coming, it was great but for us, who was there before it wasn't the same. It's like going to McDonald and they stop making burgers for Hot-Dog, I might like Hot-Dogs but I want Hamburger, only the name and the appearence of the restaurant are the same but taste is different. But if you go there for the first time, of course you will say the Hot-Dogs are amazing.
I am very happy for you if you enjoy the game so much now but for me it is like SWG 2, same story but different game. Keep playing it and leave the old player alone. We tasted it and we don't like it. It not the same anymore.
Can you imagine how it was before when we were aloud to choose from over 30 different profession (yes that was amazing) and if you didn't like you can change for another profession, that was awsome.
It's like when they did one of the Resident Evil as a FPS, I don't like FPS so I didn't play it.
It just too bad for the one who enjoy so much the original version. Like the movies 4-5-6 were much better movies than 1-2-3 but young ppl don't agree.
Now I play many different MMO til I find a great one that suit me. I am hoping that one day, someone will decide to make one MMO about Shadowrun (why god why, no one ever thought about that) you have everything everyone wants in Shadowrun, Magic, Technology and Mystic Creature. Come on ppl work on one.
Get a life you freaking Gamer.....no no, you don't understand, I'm a Gamer, I have many lives!!

Do not hate, Hate brings fear and fear brings pain and pain brings... oh I forgot it now, well you know what I mean.
I like the missions, they are good stories and feel natural and not repetitive.
I love how there are different missions geared towards the dirrerent job paths.
I also saw a good amount of grouping in missions and people in covert operations like base raiding missions with eachother.
It is cool how I got my own ship and can modify it. Seems lots to do.
I'm sure I will get into a group soon after I get to know my way around.
My Brother wants to run a town and rival other groups so if they try to come into the town the ones who live in his town will comence to destroy them.
My goal is to get one of those 4 level homes, how cool is that? Lots to do.
And EVE is also a great game but you stay inside the ship all the time, bummer...
And CoH is Great but thos missions are just one after the other repetitive...realy.
And I do not mine seeing Jedi in game because all the Star Wars Films seem to be told from the side of the Jedi anyways or the Sith or somthing anyways.
I am a Bounty Hunter and it is cool and I FEEL like a bounty hunter too...
And yes I love the Wide Open Feel, Keep it comming Yes. Good Job, keep it all comming, I am exstatic with how fun this is.
I realy have to thank KatOR I, I finished it and it was awsome and I learned a lot about Star Wars and it was what mostly made me play SWG finaly.
If you like wide open spaces and the "world" feeling, then its a shame you didnt play before the cunge (
I wish you good luck with finding a planet that isnt capped on player cities so that you can build your own. Maybe they'll do a database wipe to get rid of the ghost towns. Personally, i hope they dont, i think its fitting, like a monument to what the game once was and how many people used to play. Its strangely appropriate that the long gone vets' houses still stand and are "in the way" of the new players and cities.
Since you werent around, you wouldnt know that all those things that you want to "keep comming" have already been in the game and were taken out to attract "you" with the nge. Crazy that its the promise of those things that keep people playing now.
Also, i doubt you'll ever be able to experience the cities that WERE Coronet, Theed, and the Mining OP on Dant with packed cantinas, starports, and hunting groups. The brightside is that you wont experience the lag lol.
Basically, I predict you'll join us in about 3 months time, when all of soe's promises turn out empty, and you feel your characters progress negated because soe makes changes that they want to appeal to someone else who hasnt been jaded by their idiocy when it comes to game management. But have fun while you can, it wont last.
According to reports, the lag is still there. SOE are champions of breaking stuff, why can't they "break" the lag? Because they haven't tried fixing it.
******************************** SWG pre cu - never forgotten.
What lag? The only lag I get is when one of my housemates decides to download something while I'm playing, giving me an excuse to throw things at them . I play with an average ping of 320ish too, from the other side of the world...
Accually I did recently come back .... for about 3 weeks. I cancelled AGAIN.
This game that is called SWG is NOT SWG. It's a fake, an imposter, it's some freaking mess that $OE has created that isn't worth my $15 per month.
There are bugs EVERYWHERE. Servers are empty with the exception of a few that have "some" people on them. My last look was 25 servers 8 at medium and 17 listed as light (prime time). Pretty sad state of affairs concidering that they ALL used to be HEAVY with one or two listed as medium.
You can have this piece of crap. The fact that you are here trying to get people to come back tells me you are scared to death of them shutting the servers down or at the very least ... NOT having fun playing alone.

It's like renting a penthouse appartment and being moved down to the basement, cause it's more "liveable" down there. The rent remains the same though. If it makes you feel any worse, im having a great time with the NGE.
Ive been playing swg since october 2003 and in my opinion SWG is at its peak now. At least now the devs are showing their own game some interest.

Yes, it's relevant to those of us that played in the time, but not to those that only just started playing recently. If he likes the game the way it is now, so be it, that's his opinion and he is as entitled to say that as you are to say that Pre-CU was the best time in the game. These are OPINIONS, they are neither right or wrong.
Look at the SWG forums? When haven't they been mostly about people complaining?

It should not matter if they starting playing 2 years and 9 months ago or today. The history of $OE is totaly interlaced with SWG. The state of the game is is one thing. How $OE and $LA has treated the game and its customers is another but yet connected. He should pay VERY close attention to what people that have left the game are saying. I'm not saying he should leave, but if he sees $OE and $LA pulling the same crap then he should think about cutting his losses and find another game to play.
Everyone has their own tolerance levels. The NGE was the final blow for me as well as for tens of thousands of other people ... maybe hundreds of thousands.

Your right about that. With each major change to the game the SWG universe has become less a living breathing entity, and more like those other MMO's you speak of. Mind-numbing quests for loot. Since we have watched and lived this process from the begining how could we love what it has become when it use to be so much more?
A couple of reasons why most players WILL NOT EVER come back.
1. We liked the old systems, they were buggy as hell at times, but we liked them, we just wished they got around to actually fixing them or rewriting them from the ground up.
2. SOE has also made great promises but hardly ever delivers. The Droids Rebuilt publish we had was still pretty crappy, droids still felt funny to use.
3. Crafting new items. Crafters begged for new items, and so did the professions. New rifle new this, new that. What the devs heard was "new models", what the players would have settled for was "same models as we had, but with a reskin, or recolor/flare added". Would not have required an expanision or any real work to do the latter.
4. Expansion after expanision. We RIOTED on the servers for them to release the CU first,(the first CU, it was more of a Combat Revamp, instead of a complete Combat Update)
5. No purpose for PvP - Bloodfin crashed the server on a regular basis in PvP battles because that was really the only thing to do was to get a larger gank squad together.
6. Jedi and Bounty Hunter lovefest. The amount of publish time these two professions got is kind of sickening. The devs had no idea what they wanted to do with these two and still don't it seems.
7. The Pre-NGE Skill system specifically the Pre-CU skill based system was vastly superior to the way you have classes and levels now.
8. We didnt even see 1/100000th the amount of communication that you guys currently are getting. Heck Patch day was usually SURPRISE FRIDAY. They would drop any patch almost always on a FRIDAY. And then leave for the weekend, usually there were also "SURPRISES" in the patch, like a giant bug, or even a "FIX" that was not talked about or posted in previous patch notes. Then we would hear nothing for a few weeks unless there was a major issue in the last patch, and then we would get another patch on friday with SURPRISES.
I'm a two year veteran i was playing before the FIRST cu pre-pub 10 I am an ex-master creature handler. Before the first cu comp amor and two-hour uber buffs were the game which was gay. If you can pay 10k and get buffed for two hours and solo mobs way higher than you is gay. After the first cu it was a little better but then whoever got knockdown ruled which was also gay. Trying to pvp but getting knocked down then killed BEFORE you can get up is gay period. Now the game is the MOST balanced as its ever been they FIXED many prof unbalances like medic now. Any prof has a chance now at pvp. The combat is the best in any mmo. YOU have to AIM to kill something which means player skills not mathmatical calculations which is the better than auto-attack anyday. Lag is lag everything has lag my ping is 124 usually which isnt bad. even CS has lag so quit complaing about lag, its in an online game. I am sorry creature handler got removed becuase i loved that professoin BUT it can always be added later as a side skill like a couple other games. Since they took out ch i had to find a different prof, i FIRST chose jedi it was fun for 5 months but it became a race to get the best hilt in the game which i think was boring. Now i am a spy. I love being able to toggle stealth on and off and i am very greateful that you actually disappear to your enimies. But every prof can detect it so its not unbalanced. I am a vet and i look for a fun and balanced game. SWG has NEVER been balanced until now. The devs has said that they will be implementing more diversification which will be like the prenge jedi system like gaurdian or differnt specialization. This will add more fun for me in the game. Also space pvp is getting updated with player controled space stations and imps get to launch from the star destroyer ships and take quests from their. The game is improving that is obvious. There are plenty of people online to keep me intersted. My guild ALWAYS has at least 5 people on. So the whining about low server population is bs. We recently had a pvp event and there were so many people i had to stop and drop my graphics to the lowest and i usually have them on the highest, so there were probaly 100 or more people pvping. The game is alive and kicking with new people everyday. The only thing you vets are doing are complaining that you cant be uber anymore or you actually have to aim to shoot people. The game is harder now to pvp which is great i HATE auto-attack games as ive said. Ive been in the past and i did not like but the future is promising AND i am seeing those promises come true.

Lets say Pre-CU where the problem lied, You mention Comp armor, and buffs.... well looky here, both of those were features that were added later. And ask anyone and they will also say they ruined the game, but who put those things in? The devs because people said it was TOO HARD. Then they had to balance the game around the buffs by increasing HP and stuff. Buffs and COMP armor were part of the problem. Armor itself was pretty useless, everyone would wear the best no matter what it was.
The devs don't seem to have any clue what their decisions do to PvP, PvP has always and continue to be ignored by the devs.
CH got nerfed left and right, it was even funny. CHs probably could have used a revamp more than anything.
The game has never been balanced till now BECAUSE ALL OF THE PROFESSIONS ARE ESSENTIALLY THE SAME.
5 People online for a guild is nothing to be proud about. Even if its only a 6 member guild. If you all play on the same schedule you are always going to see each other playing. Kind of pointless to even mention.
Your ping means nothing to the lag. The netcode behind the game is not like an FPS where ping matters, if the server is being overtaxed, you still could have 20 ms ping, but you would be getting what is called "Server-side" lag where the server doesn't send you as many updates as it normally does.
Yeah, the aim to shoot people is kind of cool, EXCEPT the game wasn't built on an engine designed for that, and FPS engine would be more readily adapted to that. IT would have been 10x easier if they just built their game from the ground up instead of redesigning the old one.

For the Horde!
According to reports, the lag is still there. SOE are champions of breaking stuff, why can't they "break" the lag? Because they haven't tried fixing it.

YOU are out of your freaking tree!!!!!!!

Ive been playing swg since october 2003 and in my opinion SWG is at its peak now. At least now the devs are showing their own game some interest.

But he didn't. The guy is new to the game and enjoying it as it currently is. What it was like in 2004 has no relevance
Do NOT even go there Obraik. How SWG WAS in july'03 or 2004 is VERY relevant. The game back then WAS when there was LOTS of players actually playing the game.
You like the game now ... fine. But do NOT even try to say that how SWG USED to be isn't relevant, thus trying to minimize the damage that $OE and $LA has done. If this piesce of shit game they now call SWG was so freaking good? Where is the playerbase?
And you know what? Look at the official SWG forums.... they are FULL of people quiting or saying they are just waiting for their accounts to run out.

I am realy loving this game for endless reasons, but it will only be more fun if you guys come join back in the fun.
If you like the game as it is now, more power to you bubba, knock your socks off playing, but don't tell me how great it is now, I know better. Maybe I'm just an old cynic, but all this zing, zest, and enthusisam is just too good to be real.
And no disrespect intended Obraik, but saying the game as it was has no relevance is a lot like saying "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"
