A non-Jedi server was requested by many people, back at the time when it could've helped. As much as I liked my server, I would've rerolled on a non-Jedi server if one had been provided.

I know it was requested, but I do not understand why alot of people didnt like to have jedis on their server,in my experience some players that spammed the forums they hated jedi, they didnt want to even hear the word jedi, became jedi after NGE hit...those were the people that ganked noob jedis.I am not accusing anyone on this forum of acting that way,but that's what kind of happened, even my guildies who kept crying they hated jedi turned jedi and when we asked why did you turn jedi if you never liked it,their response was "Eh was just too lazy to grind that much and I hated when jedis bragged in coronet how they unlocked".

I think the removal of saber TEF was the last straw for me. I didn't care about Jedi until that point, then it felt like I couldn't swing a dead dog by the tail without hitting 10 Jedi in any big city. Also I was a BH and hunting Jedi just got old and I got tired of taking personal abuse. I feel that the loss of saber TEF caused many attitudes to change, also the secrecy over the CU/R/B was too much. All the "I can't tell you about it but it's really exciting!" from DEVs and CSRs really got on my tits too so I left for another game before it hit.

In retrospect I think what happened to Jedi was a clear indicator of how the game was going in the long term. Dumb it down and hand it to everyone on a plate, just a glorified join the dots for fools.

This doesn't solve the problem even a bit.

Due to requirements, the Jedi were considered too abundant, since they were played by powergamers anyway. There was a time pre-cu, where you would have no problem running into a Jedi. But by my best count, there were only about 10-20 of them, all knights. These were the active pvpers, they were at all the pvp hot spots.

While there were considerably more Jedi in game, they weren't visible. Some would show off from time to time, but that was it.

Enforcing cap is the worst move possible. It simply leads to congestion, and as slots fill up, people would refuse to leave, just so they wouldn't lose the privilige. Another side effect is, that eBay prices on accounts would sky-rocket.

Well Lucas (The man who wrote the universe) says that Star Wars was a tale told through the eyes of two droids.

As for the game, jedi started out to be just a minor alpha character. But two things went wrong. Horribly wrong. First is that you cant add an alpha class to a MMO and make it work. It will always fail. Especially thats only balance is time. Because everyone has that.

Second is the developers made a misjudgement. They saw all the players, early on, running to grind for jedi. They assumed it meant everyone wanted jedi. But honestly they didnt. Most just wanted something to do. And since the monthly story arc was laughable and there was no real content at the time you could just go to they went for jedi.

In the continuity the jedi all gone in this time period. You did see Revenge of the Sith right? Read Rise of Darth Vader yet? Both are very clear on the fact that the jedi are extinct. Funny how the head of the jedi council is in hiding yet there are so many jedi running around. Someone might want to tell Yoda its safe to walk the streets again.

I resent this comment and must agree with Bissrok on leaving Legos out of this.  Legos provide an immersive activity and rich crafting experience.

Honestly, that's like saying Star Trek was about the captians, therefor everyone on STO should be a captian.

One can argue that there are those, like myself, who played to be BH. One can argue that everyone deserves a shot to become a Jedi. But I think that NO ONE can argue that having Jedi as an EARNED Profession added a sense of accomplishment that made it feel different than ANY other gaming experience I have EVER felt. WELL beyond any other experience.

I'm not argueing that the way to become a Jedi wasn't idiotic, since grinding has nothing to do with fun, but having a system that would have kept Jedi earned through Badges, quests & time would have done a LOT more for the NGE than giving every noob a saber and shoving them through the door.

For those of us that were lucky enough to earn Jedi, we have had a privilage & experience that I doubt ANY future game will ever be able to provide. We truely are the lucky few.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

The only way to incorporate such an extensive feature into the game would be to revamp it entirely and since world of warcraft was on everyones lips at the time, well, one thing leads to another and voila. NGE.

OMG!!!!   A smart, non trollish post from pirrg?????   Is this the end of times?

Why yet again is Jedi the main topic of SWG? Everything that has happenned and people are still going back and forth about jedi. One profession of many that got screwed.

It just goes to show WHY LA and SOE did what they did and mainlined jedi, because it truly always was the only thing a large number of people got out of SWG. The would have done far better if they would have just made a Jedi Academy MMO.
