Well said OP - definitely a good read and well thought-out. I've been thinking about resubbing myself, as much of us have been, wanting the game we all knew and loved back again at some level. Unfortunately, it's relatively unplayable at the moment. I say relatively, because some people are playing it loyally and faithfully, but I have less patience then they do. The developers and Smed have very optimistic plans ahead for SWG, and after reading the threads where they actually started responding (really responding!) to the community, I believe it might actually work itself out soon. We'll see...
There will be no more arguing about the poster. Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves, debating ME instead of SWG -- and being mean to each other on EASTER. Sheesh. Even bitter old atheists are nice on Easter.
If Duggo feels my post is biassed, he has some grounds to hold that belief. It IS a biassed view. I didn't like it. That right there is bias. He didn't seem to be trying to erode my credibility. He only pointed out that it seems biassed to make a negative reiview after a week. And if it's read as a fullscale critique of the game, as it certainly may be taken, it might indeed be a fair assessment of my post. No need to call in the nazi hunters just yet.
I made it plain where I stood, as a former longtime player who left angry, stayed away for nearly half a year and returned to make some very good friends happy clear so that the reader, assuming they are not familiar with me, is fully understanding the parts of the game I am describing. I was also careful to mention which professions I'd taken to which levels and which ones went through the tutorial, to allow the reader to understand exactly where'd I'd been and for how long to get a feeling of what they can reasonably expect.
Frankly, while I myself felt like someone slapped me in the face with Star Wars characters in the same way I'd feel if someone knocked me down and slapped me in the face with their privates, some people might actually enjoy that sort of thing (either of them LOL). My friends Kenny and Kate LOVE what I hate. Neither of them cared much for the CU (THEIR first arrival in SWG). Were either of them mmorpg forum regualrs, you'd hear them backing up Obraik on a regualr basis.
As for "die in a fire", I'm suspecting that somehow, that random bit of Pirrgslapping isn't selfevident to anyone but myself. He trolls my threads, I think of random ways for him to die. It's not seriously and literally meant by any means. It's more of a putting your hand on someone's face and shoving them back when they poke you too much. I've long since run out of creative ways to tell the little dip to get a life.
As for what people think of me... well that's going to vary. I'm not for everyone, and that's a fact. I'm pretty damned blunt about things, and the blunt, honest truth is, if you object to something I do or something I say, it's not going to phase me much unless *I* personally feel it was out of line. So unless you see some form of retraction or apology from me about something, nothing you do or say will do you more good than to make yourself feel better -- if that much.
And as far as critiquing the posts of others... well I do try to be fair to each person, even as biassed as I so obviously am in my opinions. And I read with the intention to really listen to what each poster says. Sometimes even ammending my own stance in the face of a good and sensible contradiction of my own opinions. Obraik can speak for this. His own posts made it possible for me to even consider humoring my friends and giving $15 more to the evil overlords. Why? Because he is a pre-CU vet who makes good, intelligent posts FOR the NGE, who doesn't bully or badmouth people who disagree with him simply because they do. I respect his opinions, even if I usually disagree with them. And that's something a goodly number of you really should learn to do.
Now eat some chocolate, make nice with baby Jesus and grow up, people.

There is no such thing as an unbiased person. Hence no such thing as an unbiased post. If Duggo thinks your biased then hey he just discovered something plain and clear as a bell. Everyone is biased to some degree. In fact the day Duggo shows me a person who is completely unbiased, with unbiased posts, is the day I show him an emotionless inhuman cold robot.
Heck most reviewers on the pro websites and in magazines barely even play a game a few days let alone a week. You gave it alot deeper look then any of the professional reviews I have read before.
This once good game (who did miss some contents !!) as been smashed ! Nothin interesting here , the combat mecanics fit a bad action game and the world now is shallow ! Too bad it had potential at first ! Now you see why big corporation hotshots dont play game !
In in the following two paragraphs of a Q&A with gamespot, will show you just how retarded he is on so many levels, and exactly why there will be never any point in returning to SWG.
GameSpot: Last question, John. What's the one lesson from your two years of seeing Star Wars Galaxies being played, that you wish you knew sooner?
John Smedley: That straight sandbox games don't work. And that we needed to focus much more on the Star Wars experience. I think in the past, what we probably made was the Uncle Owen experience as opposed to the Luke experience. We needed to deliver more of the Star Wars heroic and epic feeling to the game. I think we missed there. That's what I think we really brought to the game [with the update].
One thing that I love about our company is that there is no "quit" in this company. It's about making sure that we have pride in what we do. People within the company feel so much pride in this game that they want it to beat the crap out of World of Warcraft. That's something we feel very passionate about. We know we are capable of making the best stuff out there, and I'm proud to say that with the changes we're making in Galaxies, I think we're headed in the right direction.
Oh holy crabcakes Azhrarn... that's the best and worst review of the game I've read in a long time.
Best, because it came from the heart, it had all those old fashioned things like paragraphs and grammar that get an old fashioned thing like me all fired up and you didn't just bleat about 'this guy told me that he'd heard from somebody who read a board that said...' you went in and did it. And did it again and again.
Worst because you expressed all the concerns that I've had about the stinking roadkill that they've made out of the game since 15th Nov (and regardless of how many bug fixes, patches, tweaks and promised lovelyness there's been, it's STILL as appealing as a festering badgers corpse).
I pop in once in a blue now. A couple of friends who paid for a year are still hanging around and they like to make me suffer by helping the, level in space. But other than that, nah, it's just a game I've got access to, not the 'place' I used to go hide out and 'be' my toon for hours on end.
This time last year I was a typical fanboi, SWG was the be all and end all of online gaming for me and my mates. Now? Well am just a bitter SWG refugee with no mates. I was so p'd off at the game that I even killed off my forum avatars (RangerSWG, etc) as they had SWG in their name and I didn't want associated with that PoS anymore.
Am still interested in the game and it's further development, so, sorry to the 'move along' posse, I'm sticking around here and I'll bitch, whine and moan just as much as I'll cheer and flagwave IF they ever manage to turn this beast around.
Having heard that Chili has some real live livin' players on, I might head over there. Pity I killed off my old ranger/rifleman toon there, but hey, stuff happens. Well, it'll be something to do on patchnight at the EQ2 place.
Thanks again, Azhrarn for the review. Stylish and classy, but what else could we expect, eh?

She was expecting. Not wanting. Why would she want that anyway? She is the one spending her money. Sheesh I have never gone into a fastfood place and want to have uncooked food. I have never gone in a mall and want poor customer service. I have never driven down a road and want a traffic ticket. And I sure as hell havent played any games and want them to suck. If I ever played SWG again I would want it to be a good game.
And that is why I am here in the first place. I want SWG to be a good game. You can sit there and try to label me however you want including chastizing me for labelling others (hmmm). Maybe your right and maybe not. I am Anti-NGE and Anti-SOE. But I am Pro-SWG. I have always wanted the game to be a success.
And as for you calling me a member of the Anti-SOE goon squad. At least I dont have an Anti-SOE message in my freaking sig. I maybe Anti-SOE but your a flag waving card carrying member yourself so time to stop acting all high and mighty like everyone else is beneath you. Every single post you make is an Anti-SOE message with that full stop there brother.

The fact that every aspect of the game she touched on was interpreted to be as bad as possible tells me it was "wanting" in addition to "expecting." I'm not sure what you use to draw your conclusion.
Correction: "This game is probably going to suck." = Expecting "This game sucks and I'll prove it." = Wanting
Psychology isn't my forte. Possible reasons someone might have for wanting to reflect a object in the worst possible light maybe be: Attachment to the previous incarnation of the object and projecting their feeling of loss onto the new object; wanting to prove all previous statements of the object's short-comings correct; to gain acceptance among peers who feel the same way; to be hurtful towards something that hurt them. There may be more reasons someone would "want" to, but these are just off the top of my head. I'm also not saying that any of these are the reasons behind the OP, I'm just offering possible answers to your question.
I wasn't chastizing you for labelling, I was chastizing you for being a bigotted hypocrite.
Not liking SOE doesn't make you a goon squad member, irrationally attacking and derailing any post/thread that doesn't tow the "Anti-SOE" line does.
I treat everyone as my equal until they've proven to me that they aren't, at which point they have to work to get that respect back. If you feel I've been treating you as my lesser it's probably because you fell into this category.
As far as there being "no such thing as an unbiased person": There is a difference between having an opinion and having an agenda; please realize they aren't one and the same.

Spankings? Here? Wondered what that line forming around the corner was for...
And with that, I am outtie. Taking some time away from this place. The pain/hate has turned into a muddy mixture of resignation and "who gives a care". Carry on the good fight, guys and girls.
I'll post my experience with NGE. It should be more "neutral" and therefore appealing to those who are slamming the OP for bias (which I will agree with, but at the same time, I also agree with the OP).
My character on Bloodfin, Corbin, was a long time smuggler - pre and post CU. I hit Master Smuggler with the game back in August '03 and stuck with the game and profession, fairly faithfully, up until '05.
After a summer hiatus from the game, I tried the NGE out in Nov '05, not long after it came out. My initial experiences with it were good - I respec'd my character a few times for fun and ran around beating low level mobs down. Although, admittingly, I only ever saw low level mobs -- until I stopped by Dathomir and picked on more challenging targets. But I hear the levels of the mobs have been fixed. I didn't find it much different from the CURB, although I was using a good pistol instead of my elite rifle (which was, sadly, made crap in the conversions).
The shock came from starting a new character from scratch. I found the whole experience to be incredibly boring. Sure, the whole Han Solo scene was great, but once I was dumped on the station I got to experience the tedium of SWG combat, gradually. It only got worse when I actually reached Tatooine and had to fight CL10 mobs, usually several at a time. The pace of combat was predictable and not very engaging, even though there was a lot of running around involved.
And it only got worse when I tried to PvP. I waited around a few hours for an overt to show up, and when I finally got to see a 1v1, the combat that ensued consisted of several minutes of running, healing (between non-medics, mind you), and being unable to target the other guy at all because of all the motion.
The saddest part of the experience was going into my home, once chock full of all kinds of smuggler kits, olde and new, only to find them all vanished. That was totally disheartening, but I didn't let it stop me from trying out the NGE.
Not more than a day after I decided to check out the NGE, I changed the name of my house to give it a "tomb" status, unsubscribed

Oh I dont fall into that category because I dont delude myself into thinking I am some superb person. I know I am flawed. I know I am a hypocrite. And I know what I think or believe doesnt make me anymore perfect then anyone else. You on the otherhand.....I treat everyone as my equal until they've proven to me that they aren't, at which point they have to work to get that respect back. If you feel I've been treating you as my lesser it's probably because you fell into this category.
