RPG Levelling

Could anybody please tell me how I can find a way of listing all MMORPG's that aren't based on levels? This disturbing genre of level-grind-level-hack-slash-level-grind is driving me to prozac  ...

EVE online is a non level based system and non grinding.

he doesn't mean that kind of skills.

He means Swordsfighting, clubfighting, magic, those kind of skills instead of levels.

I am looking for the same thing.  I don't enjoy having 0 chance of beating someone because they have been logged onto the game for more hours than me..

    it really bugs me.

I love the exploring and immersiveness (is that a word?) of mmos, but hate the pvp combat.  I love the pvp combat of games like counterstrike and battlefield 2, but hate the level boundaries (makes you feel "boxed in/trapped in the arena") and the lack of content.

i made a thread about this, not sure if i'm allowed to post the link but I just replied to it (so it should be on the 1st page) and it hasnt gotten many replies yet, called like "MMO based on balance instead of level?".. drop an opinion or somethin there if you want

  • DarkFall is designed just for that, u can woop some1s ass on lvl 1 ( i think atleast )...to bad its not out yet........

RPG (computer) stands for game in which you develop your character > it could be based on levels (experience) , or even only on equipment.

But in the very meaning DEVELOPING the character - you see it is time related process.

You however are looking for a game in which your character is "as it is" - this is not RPG more likely a FPS or even  Adventure game

P.S some pen&paper roleplayers might say RPG stands for roleplaying (and there you dont necesseraly develop character) they are wrong - cpu rpg and pnp rpg are two diferent things

Im still trying to figure out why after a year of being dormant, theres suddenly this new following.

you know that game started development before Dark and Light?  More games have been released since it was first announced and hence forth become dead, went belly up or became successful

not to burst anyones bubble, but Darkfall was a great idea back in 2003.  It still sounds ok, but I stopped being anticipated about it back in 2004.

true, in every RPG that i've played you can level up and become stronger.  I actually find it a little ridiculous, you can't go outside and kick a rabid dog to death and get smarter.  but anyway, I think he's saying that the outcome of a battle shouldn't be completely based on what level you are.  The way I see it... if your 'character's level/skills' are more of the reason that you got that kill than your 'player skills', I think there's a big problem - that means it's less of a game.

I've read that "Face of Mankind" is a non level based skill system, though I'm not certain how it works all I know is it's not a level grinding skill system.
