this gives you a look at real life. idk if you have noticed but you dont see many american farmers out there. and why? because its simply not worth it. as it said in the video, one american dollar is worth 8 yaung or w/e there. so if they have many people making money and selling it they make a decent amount for living in china. they do stuff like this in real life too. many things that you have are built in china for the same reason. they make a lot more money there by selling it cheap here. china will kill our economy if we are not careful. we keep importing and we dont exprt as much, so this will bring our economy down because we are spending our money in different countries. lets just hope one day we dont go to war with china because they have such a huge population, and theyre just deadly.
It's a industry providing people with food and a living. I don't buy gold because it's a waste of my money to do so but I respect these guys ability to see something and make money off it. I sure as hell would of never of thought to do the samething, of course I am well off.

China won't kill our economy by their products but by the ever increasing federal debt we are running up like mad under this congress and administration. China is buying up our debt like mad. Eventually when we pay off our huge national debt China will reap a win fall. If we don't pay off our debt and keep running the tab then our currency value will fall in value which will force China to move it's currency to the Euro and thus further hurting us even more and soon enough the American dollar would become no better then toilet paper. With all this we would still also need to repay the debt owned by China so that still means win...win for China.

I am telling you as a fact, all MMO games combine, there won't be more than 100k Chinese gold farmers. And that's out of 1.3 billion Chinese population. Leave the rest Chinese out of it who probably don't even know such thing exist.
And yes, to my knowledge there are other farmers. American farmers, and German farmers, very few, but still exist. They are also some unemployed guys irl, who can do nothing but make a little money here and there. A few of them are even well known players in well known alliances, I don't see people trash talk them.
Racism imo.
btw, if there is no demand then there won't be farmers. Blame the lazy players who pay real money for ingame currency.
Oh and to the British guy who mentioned how you destoryed Chinese economy with drugs back in 1840...sounds like you were pround of it. I am not suprised.
After all, the British government was a big drug lord...grow drugs in India, then sell them to Chinese...Chinese had no knowledge about Heroin was bad since it didn't exist in China before...until it was too late...tons and tons of silver were scammed by British, millions people were sick, economy was screwed up because of it...
Then when Chinese government started to burn all the British drugs, British government started a war over it! And the effect of everything in China was screwed up has continued for the next 100+ years even now because of many other random bandwagons saw it as a chance since China was greatly weakened during the next 100 years...China is still in the long recovery.
Jd, why are you blaming the chinese? blame the trash that pays money for someone ELSE to play the game for them. those people don't even want to play the game in it's true form (advance your character and get new equipment/skills/etc), they just want to become instantly powerful to own everyone in "PvP". Blame those idiots.
(Personally... I think that in any game that's based on time, there will be trash who wants to cheat and instantly become a god. Until mmorpgs that are purely level-based and time-based decide to get a little more creative, there will be the idiots who just want to own by cheating, and there will be jobs (in all countries) where they will do it for you.)
Another user here says it best with his signature: If your game makes a user wany to pay money so someone else can play it for them, perhaps that is a time to rexamine how the game works. (Paraphrased.)
The problem isn't quite so much that there's a market for buying and selling goods, it's that so much of these games have nothing to do with skill or anything else, but simply time played. People resent systems like FFXI where if you aren't skilled enough you don't advance (It is possible to buy a level 75 character and get knocked down to level 60 if one really sucks. Not likely, but...). Yet systems where there is no means to go backwards obviously support whoever has played longest.
This wouldn't be a problem if games weren't so dependant on time and/or were actually fun to play. A lot of this nonsense like not being able to, say, raid in WoW unless one has invested at least 400 hours into the game (to get to level 60), is to blame. It doesn't take me 400 hours to learn how to play a level 60 character, so why should I waste that much time? According to XFire, I put in an average of about 20 hours a week playing. 400 hours would take me 5 months. I can see the really cool parts of most single player games in 1-2 weeks, but to see the "cool" parts of an MMO I have to invest a heck of a lot more time (Oh, and by the time I've already paid for 2 single player games). Time, not skill. And most of that time spent is pretty boring, too.
To anyone sayng game economies are "totaled" by farming. Is there even the slightest chance you can provide something other than statements to back that up. I have been hearing it over and over again about ever game I have played since UO yet no one seems to be able to provide so much as a link or a graph to back it up with any facts.
Sayng something lots of times does not make it true.
And dnot forget its all made possible by the slackness of the developers of modern MMO's who could stop this entire industry any time they chose, but choose not to.
Please send your thanks to Blizzard etc in an email and let them know how much you appreciate thier facilitation of virtual trading.

Two words: BULL ****. Free trade has nothing to do with this, and btw, no Libertarian Party members supports NAFTA, CAFTA, or the WTO because these are biased against countries that don't play by their rules, namely those countries in Africa that continue in squaler despite the abudence of resources and minds to utilize them [*coughs* De Beers *coughs*]. So, when you folks stop blocking grain and resources from Africa, then I'll start supporting your party's platform. Farmers don't go to school. If they do, they won't be farmers any more.
IMO, I don't give two shits about gold farmers or people who buy the gold from them. It's their time, their money, their lives, and it affects me about as much as a mouse turd in Malaysia does. Who cares. You people who make a big ass deal about the farming are the ones who ruin MMOs. Farming has been around since old school UO, and NO one complained about it then. Then when MMOs got more popular with DaoC, EQ and such, people started freaking out about gold farming and buying gold online because they are jealous. Let the people be, it doesn't affect your life 1 iota.
Look, i personally dislike gold farmING. that is not to say i dislike Gold-farmERS.That is why, when it comes to games, i feel that item based trading is best... not currency. At any rate, i have no problem with a gold-farmer. he is doing what he needs to do to survive. He/she knows that what they do isn't anything to be proud of... that is humiliation and degradation enough. They are people simply trying to get by, and i can respect that.
I do not like gold farming though... it ruins economies, and creates annoying pop-up adds on the many sites i visit. But that is their life, and i won't stop them from managing to even put a scrap of food on the table.
I may not lie what they do, but the human will is to survive by any means possible. When the last of a species of woodpecker was killed by a starving hispanic man, he only smiled and said that it was the best meal his family ever had. I know that goldfarmers aren't killing off species and whatnot, but people do what they have to to survive. If you had the choice of killing the last of the blue cow, or feeding your family after a week of starvation, would you not kill the cow? A little empathy goes a long way.

Unfettered Free trade---->Slavery. Many people died in a war about 150 years ago to ban slavery, try honoring their sacrifice for once.
The Civil War had almost nothing to do with freeing slaves. Sad but true. It was purely about the Northern factories needing the materials created on Southern farms and that if the south formed their own country they could create their own economy through trade with the same countries the origianl colonies broke off of. The slavery issue was drummed up to add support to the northern cause from the various groups that didn't want to fight a war.
The outcome was beneficial to the salves, but that was really a secondary issue at best. This myth that the war was started for that cause is just people trying to glorify the war for more than it was. Besides if the war was truly to free the slaves and give them freedoms then why didn't they get them at the end of the war?
You really haven't paid a lot of attention in life have you?
If you want to hear it from the mouth of an american soldier woprking as a historical guide may I suggest visiting Fort Snelling National Park.
gold farming in video games has nothing to do with the history or trade agreements between the U.S./China. You are dancing around the real issue...the gamer.
It has everything to do with YOU the gamer buying the crap to begin with. If no one bought the crap no one would farm it. I guarentee that statement.
Its not how many/where they are from that matters...its all the Americans on American servers buying it that counts. You are paying the farmer after all.
Stop buying the gold and the gold farmers will disapper. That is a promise

Their either guys who have come in from rural towns in China and thus have no real work skills or education besides what they learned on the farm and in their small towns or college students trying to pay their way through college. I know of some college age folks here in the U.S. who go to school and then spend 8 hours a day farming gold in WoW and they make some nice spending cash. They make more money off farming then they would working at fast food place like McDonalds or Starbucks.

2 years posting on this site and I read a thread about this once a week.
Yet at NO TIME!!! has anyone posted anything remotely resembling evidence to support this claim.
I REPEAT.... saying someting over and over does not make it TRUE!!
Give me a link, a graph, some numbers from an MMO developer.... something....anything other than claim, after claim, after claim that it ruins economies backed up by nothing more than more claims.

^^ They must do, because the only "product" they are generating is gold. Take any game with a broker or an auction. If you buy an item, how do you know that wasn't farmed by a farmer or was duped? What about the infamous Krol Blade dupe in World of Warcraft, you telling me that creating an infinite number of items won't have an effect? Suddenly a rare item stops being so rare. You won't find a link, graph or some numbers because the cause and effect isn't straightforward. These games tend to suffer from natural inflation anyway, but farmers will accelerate that process. I don't see how you can have a game where some players are making nothing but gold 24/7 and it NOT to ruin an economy. Especially if dupes/hacks/cheats are used even though they always claim they never do.

Thomas: Anti-coyote law ignored
By Gary Grado and Le Templar Tribune
August 31, 2005
Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas is accusing Gov. Janet Napolitano (DEMOCRAT!) and Attorney General Terry Goddard (DEMOCRAT) of ignoring a new state law against human smuggling that’s intended to impede illegal immigration.
Atlantic slavery. Free Trade indeed.
In Britain, and in other parts of Europe, opposition developed against the slave trade. Led by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and establishment Evangelicals such as William Wilberforce, the movement was joined by many and began to protest against the trade, but they were opposed by the owners of the colonial holdings (Democrats and free-trade Libertarians of today). Denmark, who had been very active in the slave trade, was the first country to ban the trade through legislation (1792) that took effect in 1803. Britain banned the slave trade in 1807, imposing stiff fines for any slave found aboard a British ship. That same year the United States banned the importation of slaves.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
MINUTEMEN TO CHALLENGE PRESIDENT BUSH AT APPEARANCE IN IRVINE, CA MONDAY
Secure the Borders Now, or American People Will
When: 7:30 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2006 Where: Hyatt Regency, 17900 Jamboree Rd. Irvine, CA
(Twin Peaks, CA) April 21, 2006 – During a presidential event at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine, California 7:30 a.m. Monday, April 24th, 2006 Tim Donnelly, state leader of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (“MCDC”), CA Chapter, will publicly challenge President Bush to fulfill his oath of office and immediately act to secure our borders, or the Minutemen will lead the sovereign American people to act in their own defense.
The MCDC announced yesterday that should the federal government fail to deploy National Guard and reservists to our southern border by May 25th to stop the flood of illegal aliens, halt the rampant criminality there and curtail the potential for terrorists to infiltrate this country via our porous, unsecured borders—then the Minutemen will be obliged to expand their “Border Watch and Report” mission.
The Minutemen will commence building border fencing on private land in Arizona on Memorial Day weekend, in the likely event the president persists in his refusal to protect this country from foreign invasion. Arizona ranchers and property owners along the frontier have already committed more than 70 miles of privately held border line to the project. Land owners in border states other than Arizona have contacted MCDC seeking to join the border fence project to protect their lands. More information on this project is available at www.MinutemanHQ.com
The Issue: Tariffs and quotas serve only to give special treatment to favored special interests and to diminish the welfare of consumers and other individuals, as do point-of-origin or content regulation. These measures also reduce the scope of contracts and understanding among different peoples.
The Principle: Individuals trading with individuals in other nations, voluntarily, should be the sole source of regulation of international free markets. All trade barriers are unnecessary and burdensome constraints.
Solutions: We support abolition of all trade barriers and all government-sponsored export- promotion programs, as well as the U.S. International Trade Commission and the U.S. Court of International Trade. We affirm this as a unilateral policy, independent of the trade policies of other nations.

Jefferson Davis Innagural Address (President of Confederate Slavery States of America)
An agricultural people, whose chief interest is the export of a commodity required in every manufacturing country, our true policy is peace and the freest trade which our necessities will permit. It is alike our interest, and that of all those to whom we would sell and from whom we would buy, that there should be fewest practicable restrictions upon the interchange of commodities.
Abraham Lincoln on Free Trade:
"My politics are short and sweet, like the old woman's dance. I am in favor of a national bank ... in favor of the internal improvements system and a high protective tariff." ~ Lincoln, Campaign Speech, 1832. "[Free trade is a system whereby] some have labored, and others have, without labor, enjoyed a large portion of the fruits.... To secure to each laborer the whole product of his labor, or as nearly as possible, is a most worthy object of any good government." "[International trade] is demonstrably a dead loss of labor... labor being the true standard of value."~ Lincoln, Feb. 15, 1861 "The legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all, or cannot do so well, for themselves, in their separate and individual capacities." "I... would continue (trade) where it is necessary, and discontinue it, where it is not. As instance: I would continue commerce so far as it is employed in bringing us coffee, and I would discontinue it so far as it is employed in bringing us cotton goods."
Pick your poison. Are you a pro-slavery Democrat-Libertarian, or are you an abolitionist Lincoln-Republican? Chose your side, stand in a straight line and start shooting. Boioioioing.

Unfettered Free trade---->Slavery. Many people died in a war about 150 years ago to ban slavery, try honoring their sacrifice for once.

Until then, I'll keep buying fairtraded products from countries where I know the farmer is getting his piece, the WTO can stop pretending to support freetrade when it's not free nor trade. :P

You guys are funny...
gold farming in video games has nothing to do with the history or trade agreements between the U.S./China.

Immigration
...
Solutions: We condemn massive roundups of Hispanic Americans and others by the federal government in its hunt for individuals not possessing required government documents. We strongly oppose all measures that punish employers who hire undocumented workers. Such measures repress free enterprise, harass workers, and systematically discourage employers from hiring Hispanics.
Transitional Action: We call for the elimination of all restrictions on immigration, the abolition of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the Border Patrol, and a declaration of full amnesty for all people who have entered the country illegally.
Atlantic Slave trade:
The Atlantic slave trade originated in a
shortage of labour in the new world. The first slaves used were Aboriginal peoples, but they were not numerous enough and were being decimated by European cruelty and diseases. It was also difficult to get Europeans to emigrate to the colonies, despite incentives such as indentured servitudeThe Atlantic slave trade originated in a shortage of labour in the new world. Thomas: Anti-coyote law ignored
Tribune
Monday, April 24, 2006
Where: Hyatt Regency, 17900 Jamboree Rd.

Trade Barriers

To secure to each laborer the whole product of his labor, or as nearly as possible, is a most worthy object of any good government."
"[International trade] is demonstrably a dead loss of labor... labor being the true standard of value." ~ Lincoln, Feb. 15, 1861
"The legitimate object of government is to do for a community of people whatever they need to have done, but cannot do at all, or cannot do so well, for themselves, in their separate and individual capacities."
"I... would continue (trade) where it is necessary, and discontinue it, where it is not.
Less politics/trolling please.
