Typical because he assume that Eve is better than other MMOs without knowing what he is talking about. "aim/action/range" and that is supposed to be more than what all the other MMOs are offering in fight ?
Typical because he assume that you can't criticize Eve. Whether you enjoy playing it or you shut the f*** up. That is supposed to be a mature behaviour ?
Okay, Eve is the greatest game, unchallengeable, deep. You can do everything in Eve. You can do everything with anything if you think that way... That's like painting with a hammer, ironing clothes with a hammer, eating your soup with a hammer... I'm sure that with a bit of imagination you will find a way to do it, that still doesn't mean that's the best way to do it !
Eve is the only ship based sci-fi game. I play it (less and less) because that is the only ship based sci-fi MMO. It could be a far better game and that's why I'm criticizing it here and on CCP's boards.
When you consider that critics are irrevelant, that no one should dare criticizing, that is a fanboy or groupie girl teenage behaviour. Eve is not the best game, it is a good game. I'm glad if you enjoy it.

EVE is a game for a different niche of people, some like FFA PvP, others like straight PvE, others like it that the market is run solely by the players.
It's a well-developed game that has a unique niche in the MMO world. A game that sucks is a game that is broken, this game isn't broken, it just has it's intended audience. If you don't like the game, most likely it wasn't your cup of tea that's all.
Some people can't understand how you have fun in EVE while others cannont understand why you have fun in other games. Everybody likes different things, my best friend in RL doesn't like video games, he doesn't say it sucks, he just doesn't like them. I don't like TV, I don't say it sucks, i just don't like it.
There really is no point to post why a game sucks based on what you don't like about it, because for every aspect you think is a weakness, many people believe it is the strength of the game.
I guess i'm trying to change people's thought process on criticizing games, there's no point as you probably just criticzing the fact that you're mindset doesn't enjoy the game.
However, if the game is broken and seriously screwed up, then a person can say the game sucks.
For example, I played WoW for 2 months and then quit, it was obvious to me that WoW wasn't my cup of tea. I also left WoW to play Diablo 2 for 4 months. Now you may say Diablo 2 sucks but to me it was the perfect game to suit my PvP desire (I only played hardcore btw and I dueled and PK'd). Hence, Diablo 2 was my cup of tea for whatever reason.
Anyway, another of best friends is about to start playing EVE and his main reasons are the immersive multi-faceted PvP, by mutli-faceted PvP i don't only mean killing someone's ship, I also mean economically sabotaging a corporatoin or a manufacturing plant, taking control of a region of space, political PvP basically.
I Love EVE's immersive PvP, downside is, space MMO isn't my preferred genre and I have a lack of time or else I would play EVE, and if I decided I didn't like it, I wouldn't say the game sucked, I would just say it didn't float my boat.
In short, I'm sick of people saying something sucks just because they don't like it. Hell I read science fiction primarily that doesn't mean that romance novels suck, I don't like romance novels, but it doesn't mean they suck.

No, no... mindless banter is the name of the game.
Every Eve-hate thread can be summed up with this...
"I've never played this game, but this game is stupid!" or "I've only played this game enough to create my character, but this game is stupid!" or "This game isn't WoW, and this game is stupid!"
You can correct what he says and tell him that what he read is incorrect, he doesn't care. He's got friends now. Friends that hate Eve. Friends that have nothing better to do with their time than fight a stalemate. Good for him! Way to make friends! Way to accomplish nothing! Way to take two steps forward and two steps back!
Mindless banter. Pointless, factless speculation. No amount of "please read the post instead of just looking at the quote lines and assuming everything between them is a personal insult towards yo mama" will acomplish anything. They want to be insulted. It gives them something to do. Him and his friends.
We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.
SobaKai.com There are two types of people in this world - people that suck... and me.
Now I know I will get bashed by the Fanboys but Ill say this anyhow, hopefully we can start a topic and discuss ideas instead of flaming each other.
Saying you don't want to flame although you proceeded with a flame in its self? "fanboys"
Hypocritical and ignorant.
Eve is a great game and a must try at least once type of MMO. But honestly, Eve is really nothing special (except of course it's nice stations, ships and vast feeling of space) for a few reasons:
I am lead to believe you have not played EVE if "stations, ships and vast feeling of space" are the only things you have to say.
1). Biggest flaw: No Player Interaction. How cool would it be to land on a planet, moon, station, etc and be able to walk about, even in a small zone, team up with friends and bring them aboard your ship, quarters, etc, but I guess that's years away. (Earth and Beyond actually had something like this, very minor details tho, was still a cool feature).
No player interaction? The game is _all_ about interacting with other players!
Oh, you mean there's no shinny plastic skinned elves running around chasing nomes with magic wands. Yeah, none of that.
2). The "leveling up system": Ridiculous. If I were to enter Eve right now, I'd be and always would be a chump, a nobody basically, because there is no way of catching up to someone who has been playing since 2003 because of the way the system works. Each skill is leveled by activating it and waiting for time, hours, days, months even to gain the next level in a certain skill. It's fair to the old players but a mockery to the new players.
Wrong! A 1 day old character can turn the tides of war in a fleet engagement.
Real time skill training is the best thing I've ever seen and compliments EVE's mechanics beyond anything imaginable!
There's no grinding in EVE other then in an effort to acquire assets if that's your wish.
3). Content? Besides hunting down pirates (Same pirates over and over) for agents at waypoints they give you, weeeeeeee, buying stuff from stations and transporting them to other stations for a profit, mining, ganking-pvp'ing, there really isnt much else to do. Never seen a universe so vast with nothing much to do. The only reason there is still a lot of people paying for Eve is to keep their leveling going while they are logged out. Desperately needs more content, and hopefully no one babbles about doing stuff with guild etc...
"Same pirates over and over" is more proof someone has not played this game more then maybe 20-30 minutes.
I like how it's mentioned there's nothing "else" to do "other then": HUNTING DOWN PIRATES; BUYING FROM STATIONS AND RESELLING FOR PROFIT; MINNING; PVP...nothing else? I'm sorry, what's missing? (there's actually alot more)
Yes, more content is always good although how is someone with no attention span enjoy a game with plenty of "content" that they deny?
Get into a player corporation.
4). Graphics are getting outdated, game is 3 years old, and its starting to really look it.
I think the OP is on drugs. I will also bet they have posted in their other mmorpg.com account names that WoW has the best graphics.
5). Ship Control, dont really feel much like your in control of your ship, Earth And Beyond did that quite well tho.
My god I LOVE the controls! I abstained from this game for ages becuase I thought it was going to be a twitch based game. Guess what, it's _not_ twitch based!
There are probably more negative aspects but I wont write them just now. Although the game is top class for certain stuff, it just doesnt quite cut it. And please mention to them that we really dont care every time they break another 1k barrier of subscribers or people logged on, WHO CARES!!!!!!! Crappy WoW has 5 million + , and so do others, you dont see that on their website as front page news, jeez get over it lol, nice to say it at 10k, 25k, 50k but not 10,11,12,13,14,15,,,,,,,,zzzzzzzzzzzz
Again, the OP is the type of player not wanted by the community of EVE. Sure, we understand his pleight but in no way will we show mercy towards his ignorance.
WoW is only capable of handling 3k concurrent users logged into a single server at a single moment. Once this barrier is met it means NO ONE will be able to log into that server until someone logs off.
EVE has -only one- server! Yes, EVERYONE around the world all plays on a single server. EVE's current peak usage is during the weekends and we are seeing 23k-26k concurrent users all logged in on the same server at once!
Final Rating: 9.5 for the universe, feeling of vast space, stations and stargates, 3 for fun, and 7.5 overall.
I liked the OP's presentation of how he's giving a "rating". Isn't "fun" relative? Some people like to kill small animals for fun. Others like to use drugs. Some may even go as far as playing WoW for senseless grinding.
I play EVE for the rich dynamics of a gaming universe never seen before on planet Earth! That, is what I call fun.
* Transit time Soooo Paaaaainfully Loooooong. Try Zone-Travel-Zone x20!!! And then, same thing back again. Sorry, no.
* No 1st Person Cockpit mode. I don't like watching my ass in a a Fantasy MMROPG, and I don't like watching my ass in EVE.
* EVE seems to be SciFi. It seems to have ships & gear & such. It is in SPAAACE. But, somehow, I just do not 'feel' like I am flying a craft. Not like I did in so many 1st person PC games (Descent, Wing Commander, and so many others).
* SPAAAACE gets OLD. Very quickly, same-old same-old.
Just my 2c worth. EVE players, have a great time. Just not for me. Still waiting for a really good MMORP SciFi with broad appeal. SWG was not it. EVE was not it. E&B was not it. Still waiting.

I don't like watching my ass in a a Fantasy MMROPG, and I don't like watching my ass in EVE. Read the lore for Eve. That may be too much to ask, but if you do, you'd know that your computer already comes with an Eve cockpit mode... just turn your monitor off. I won't explain that joke. * EVE seems to be SciFi. First person PC games make you feel that way because they are first person games. They lack content and make up for it with fancy views and guns and stuff. This goes along with my previous explanation. In Eve, there is no cockpit. You're a POD pilot. Read up on what that means, and you'll understand. * SPAAAACE gets OLD. Very quickly, same-old same-old. Understandable. But, the game isn't about being in space. The game is about you trying to survive in a universe. You trying to make a name for yourself among the famous or the infamous. Not space, that's just where it takes place because in space, you can do whatever you want. Just my 2c worth. EVE players, have a great time. Just not for me. I believe it started with an "I," but that's all I remember. It's a space game, though its a few years off, but it may be for you. Somebody is bound to try one between that game's release and now. Good luck finding something.

SobaKai.com There are two types of people in this world - people that suck... and me.
I'm comming from WoW and it was my first MMORPG, and that's all I have to say about that.
When I quit WoW I started to explore many other MMORPG forums and I just have to say that this game has the most down to earth, mature and OK people posting. If you call them fanbois, well, no fanboi from any other game can compare with theese guys.
I have read few trolling threads and I just can't believe how weak they sound in comparissment to players response. I get the impression that if there is only one game that has that love it or hate feeling to it, it's EVE, but thats what I realy like about it, not one of those wuss games that by trying to cater to everyone doesent satisfy anyone. And I realy believe that if you like what game offers you have to love it, but looking for something that isn't there, well I'm not gonna call it dumb, but it's realy silly. That's like saying an action-comedy is by definition movie that suck's only because drama, emotions and tears aren't there.
Again, I haven't played it, but I think it will be exactly what I'm looking for because what I'm looking for is something completly different from WoW.
Hope to meet you all soon, I'm just having some trouble installing the game client, but I hope I will resolve that soon enough.
Nice posts Snikes and Shoal. Nice to see that people can see though the mess. Eve is basically A PVP game than, and a 1, maybe 2 month awesome experience if your not into PvP. The game's music is awesome too, which i forgot to mention. I really just wish it had PvE isntead of PvP.
Being the type of game it is, you'd think it would attract 9 to 1 people who really arent into boring pvp. If you want to pvp go play some Bf 1942, I really laugh at people who love pvp in mmo's. It's alright, but an Mmo should be based 90% more on PvE than PvP.
Really could have been done smarter than this, like I said Nice Universe, Planets, stations, music, maps, stargates, ships, but the rest need to be redone. I'm sure many people, not you fanboys obviously, agree that this, being the only Mmorpg with space content should and could have been done with more thought added to it.
As for Mindspat's answers and reply, I think what Snikes said really applies to you. "I would say that Eve is a game for geeks who like to grab a calculator and play with dozens of spreadsheets, calculating margins, return of investment or damage multiplier, accuracy fallout and take a revenge by powning people for all the wedgies they have been given at highschool."
You get my award for Eve's biggest fangeek, especially since all your answers make no sense.
And, just liek the other poster said, you really dont get an overall good feeling or just feeling rather, when flying your ship, the propulsion makes an awesome sound, but the feeling of flying just inst there, SWG and ENB did have a much better feeling for sure, maybe they should look into that too lol.
Question: What "ideas to discuss" are you talking about? I do not play EVE, but I sure can pick out a troll and flamer when I see one. You are not interested in discussing any ideas, you want to flame a game that you disilked and insult and troll those that play it?
You REALLY ned to get a life and find your own game to play, then people can insult your choice instead. Oh wait... That's not what you want, just wanted to be a jerk for a post or two. Ok carry on..
Very valid points there... Yeeeeeees.. I am sure people listen to you.
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force"
Whatever, was just replying to the other posters, I really like Eve, it's one of the best Mmorpg's I've tried, just disappointed that it could have been better, who knows tho.....maybe someday they''ll wake and realize how many potential customers they've lost by making it non PvE and only PvP.
7.5 Overall rating as is, 9.5 with huge and well thought end game-PvE. SOLO and Guild.
The EVE phenomenon can be summed up very eloquently.
The more months you pay CCP, the more you will be given an advantage over those who haven't paid as much.
The more months you pay CCP, the more you will defend the game, because the game rewards your loyalty to it.
The more months you pay CCP, the more time you have to gain ISK, and the more time is freed up so you can do other things such as map out instas.
The more months you pay CCP, the more people you will meet who will fear you and thank you, because you'll have more skills, ISK, and connections. EVE just doesn't give you the opportunity for fame or infamy, it gives you the real tools necessary to force your will upon others.
Everything in EVE is designed to get one month more out of you. But while that can be said about many games, EVE is designed to give you more of a reason to get a third month after the second, and more of a reason to get a fourth month after the third.
Its fine now. The game is growing. But if the game stops to grow, or another game comes about that gives the later EVE players the choice of, "I can play as a minor player in this galaxy run by launch-era players, or I can start the road to calling the shots from the getgo in another game," where do you think the ambitious player will go? It seems to me they'll jump ship to a game that affords them some room to grow, and a blank history to chart.
That is why I fear for EVE. Because I'm actually starting to like this game more now than I did at first. I'm sure I'll like it better next month.
I like it more now, for the reasons I have explained. My fees to CCP have made me better and more insurmountable than any new player can ever hope to eclipse.
I'll have more SP than a new player will ever hope to have.
I'll have more ISK than a new player will ever hope to have.
I have met, am meeting, and establishing more allies than a new player will, because I have had three months more to establish these things.
I have cut my travel time more efficiently than a new player, because I have the leisure time to devote to more insta-plotting.
In short, I have more of a game now than when I started, and will have more of a game next month than I have now.
I'll never have more of a game than many here. That's alright though. As long as there are more players who are beneath my level today than the day before, at least I'm going somewhere.
I do have to say though. The most unfortunate MMORPG player alive is going to be that last new player on Tranquility. He or she will get so much less of a game than any player, in any game, in the history of MMOs.
The game isn't rocket science though. Its got good features that are really well done, and bad features that are really bad (reskins for T2 ships, lack of detail in models and systems, etc.). I have to hand it to CCP though, they know how to motivate people to pay every month. Like any good pyramid scheme, it gives you more reasons to send checks the more checks you send them.
The more I play, the more I'm starting to like this game.
The reason is simple. CCP gives me more power over other players, the more money I give them. I have given them three months worth, and I'll be even more pleased to give them a fourth.

I agree with everything that you said except that everything you have said is the exact reason why I don't like EVE and won't give CCP any of my money.
I don't like to buy my wins. You don't win a MMO, you gain status. What you have described sounds exactly like you are buying your status from CCP. That's not my kind of game.
It's a PVP game. If you dont like pvp then its not for you.
Talkin bout how it "should" have pve....yeah it has pve, but pve is always boring. Its boring in EQ, its boring in WoW, its boring in Eve.
Killing scripted crap over and over has never been fun, in any game. PVE just does not have a future.
What is the difference between killing a Murloc and killing a Froglok?
PVP the content is endless because each person is unique, and theres politics involved. You kill this guy, you can start a war, the minerals will stop flowing, business will suffer.
As far as "not catching up" ehh it has its ups and downs.
In one sense you don't catch up. In another sense, you don't need to catch up.
You pick a profession, and you just go do it.
If you're a fighter, you strap some missiles and guns on your ship and go join your fleet.
I can go out right now and be in fleet combat in less than 10 minutes.
I can undock right now and go mine jaspet.
I don't need to make 30 jumps.
How many sp do I have? 500k.
Meanwhile in empire there is some carebear who thinks it is suicide to enter 0.0 with less than 20 million sp.
If I gave you 20 mil sp right now, and a battleship, you would enter 0.0 and get owned and call everybody a griefer.
You are waiting for the game to entertain you.
Eve is a sandbox, you create your own entertainment.
Just takes a certain breed of individual to appreciate, really.

So you think that MMO's should be about pve with restricted player interaction? Im sorry but youre a moron. MMO by definition means Massively-Multiplayer (online) game and you telling that its ridiculous to have pvp, which is a major part of player interaction, in a type of game that is designed especially for bringing people together and interact? You actually think that an MMO should be based on single-player games (pve)? Why the hell should anyone pay monthly fee from that? If the only thing you want is cooperation with your friend then try multiplayer option found in almost every spg today. I really dont understand how anyone with more than one braincell can enjoy killing the same mindless mob in the same spot over and over again and find it more enjoyable than having a real thinking and challenging human adversary. I guess some people are just so simple. EVE is a thinking mans game and if you find thinking is not on your top100 "things I want to do with my spare time"-list, then I guess its time to go back to Grindfest #556567657
I agree with everything that you said except that everything you have said is the exact reason why I don't like EVE and won't give CCP any of my money.

So you think its better to spend hundreds of hours grinding to gain lvls? Use those few braincells you have and think about this for a second. You think its cheaper to spend hours every day grinding than pay few bucks monthly to avoid it? I dont know about you but my time is worth more than that.

Oh my, what a big man you are , I'd still rather hop into an F-18 or Apache for free in BF2 and do some real pvp. I wouldnt pay an mmo just to pvp, sorry, I dont throw money in the air.
"I can undock right now and go mine jaspet." Wow, ill sign up for a year just for that.
From paade: "So you think that MMO's should be about pve with restricted player interaction?"
What? Where is the player interaction in Eve? All ive seen is someone's ship, I've never seen anything more, If it were possible that we could land on planets, stations and walk around and have more content on foot I think the game would be much more appealing. But it's obvious to me now that Eve has attracted mostly scum type people who get their thrills by destroying/killing other players and absolutely nothing else/
"you telling that its ridiculous to have pvp, which is a major part of player interaction, in a type of game that is designed especially for bringing people together and interact?"
I wish more than 2 people shared your views there. Eve is not a game that is designed especially for bringing people together and interact, 95% of the time your alone.......I never said PVP should'nt be in Eve or any Mmmorpg, dont know why you would invent such a stupidity, but than again your just a mmo pvp dork so it doesnt surprise me. By the way when I say PVE I mean content as well.

They also seem to be charging for new content, stuff that could have been in the game if they didn't release BF2 early, EA also is being a money hungry little piggy and seems to be releasing those booster packs that aren't even worth the money, end up spending $100 dollars just so you can play the game by the end of it. One more note: EVE is a space game, things happen in space, THERE IS NO GROUND GAME. Get over it.

Where is the player interaction in WoW, DaoC, EQ, etc.? The few emotes and a bit of happily hopping around does not make player interaction. One of the reasons I still play EVE is the people I interact with regulary. Not by Avatar interaction, but by textchat and voicecomm - to me those are as valid player interaction as any avatar based one (ie emores, etc.).

While it may be be "obvious" to you it is simply plain wrong. Most people in game live in Empire and are either miners, mission-runners or researchers/producers.

But only because you choose to do so. Don't blame the game for you not wanting or being able to get into an active group of players. The main thing where EVE differetiates itself from other MMOs is the fact, that you need a group of people to access a lot of the game's content (Capital ships, POS Networks, Outposts, Alliance building, etc.). You can solo EVE, but that leads to frustrating and boring gameplay. So if EVE is specifically designed to bring people together.

Last time I checked, roughly 150,000 and growing people shared his views, myself included. EVE is designed specifically to bring people together, the only way to achieve the highest goals in the game is to work together, player interaction is a necessity. Sure you can be an introvert and not talk to anyone, but you're gonna have a hell of a time getting anywhere in the game if you do.
EVE was designed from the getgo to be PVP-oriented and to put the players in control of most aspects. They knew it would not appeal to everyeone. If it's not your style of game that's fine but that doesn't mean the game sucks, just that it sucks FOR YOU. That doesn't mean the game needs to change to suit your tastes it means you need to find another game that does.

Depending on the game, PVE can be interesting and fun. I had a lot of challenging situations in EVE, not because my IQ is below room temperature, but because way back in time NPCs in EVE simply were harder to kill, especially if you chained a triple bs spawn back in the good old days. And as said above, insults, even slightly veiled ones, don't make you sound more intelligent either.
And no, I am not a carebear mission runner bent on banning all PvPlers from Tranqility. I had my share of combat patrols, wars and skirmishes, but I never had real "fun", or challenging situation in PvP (one exception being noted). Most PVP (in EVE and most other MMOs) boils down to so called "ganking". And that is as little challenging or interesting as the poor PVE AI you are talking about. But with the PVE I can at least make some cash, while casually having fun with m8s. Sure there are nice and good fights, I admit that, but they are too rare for my opinion.
I understand that others DO have fun, etc, while PvPing, but you also need to see more than just the "dumb AI".

I really liked WoW's PvP system. It could have been better had they given players better world PvP but the actual combat was fun. The BGs really hurt world PvP.
I wasn't too impressed with how EVE handled PvP. EVE rewards ganking people who have no chance of winning more than skill. EVE is more tactical than skill based. I don't think that EVE will ever "Get Better", as the thread title suggests, because EVE is designed to appeal to a certain type of player. It's unlikely that CCP would change the games focus now.
CCP could change EVE's skill system, though. That would make EVE better.

fixed that for you.
Joking aside it's perfectly acceptable that you don't like the way some things in EVE work, but that doesn't mean they are bad design. EVE requires both skill AND tactics, but they are handled differently than in most other MMO's. In virtually every other MMO characters have a narrow but long tree of abilities available to them, with EVE it is a short but wide (widest being all skills) tree of abilities. You can only go so far in a skill tree before it is maxed out, then you move on to another one. Anyone who maxes out that tree will be on equal footing ability wise, but the outcome is going to be based on fitting and player skills. Vets have 2 advantages over new players, experience at playing the game and the versitility in taking on different roles, those advantages can be minimized or eliminated completely in 6 months.

Contratulations for toning down your flaming and actually saying something more constructive although opinionated.
I can understand where you are coming from, but as far as CCP is concerned, the PvP in EVE isn't broken and they aren't looking to satisfying everybody. EVE was never meant to be a FPS. I like what someone else said where EVE is a mixture of a RPG and Strategy based type of game. It's closer to chess than any other MMOG I've seen. It isn't the type of game for everyone. I can respect that. Maybe some other company will go with a more FPS type of space MMOG. I can respect that too and would probably try it.

Stooping to personal insults is a sign of a weak argument. Were your hands over your ears when you said that. Judging from all the new baby posts on the EVE forums it doesn't look like many EVE players have trouble getting laid either. Oh, and I don't know many geeks who live in trailerparks, most have nice houses and run companies, course I wouldn't expect you to understand that as you probably still wish you were in high-school or are.

There are two types of people in this world - people that suck... and me.
Reasons why I cancelled my EVE Sub :

I just wanna say, I AM SO GONNA PLAY EVE!

One more note: EVE is a space game, things happen in space, THERE IS NO GROUND GAME. Get over it.
So if EVE is specifically designed to bring people together.------------------------------------------------------
