I can spell its just sometimes i type so fast i mite make some errors but this isnt a spelling class like i told the other guy if you wanna talk about guild wars or what you think of it then come here
Guild Wars was the greatest game I had never played, up until recently.
There's nothing else quite like it out there, and its the most technically impressive online game I've tried. The streaming content feature is amazing, as is the game engine, graphics, pvp etc...
And unless you're completely anal about all mmogs having persistant worlds, I can't really think of a good enough reason why this game isn't / shouldn't be as successful as WoW. It's just a bargain in a bucket too!

The cats in the bag.....(....and the bag's in the river....)
Guild Wars is more fun to me. But it has a pretty high churn rate since you can get through it very quickly (even faster than WoW, technically).
Not sure a real comparison can be made, however. "subscribers" to Guild Wars never pay a monthly fee so there's never ever *EVER* a reason to cancel a subscription to it. WoW, on the other hand, is one of the more expensive monthly fees out there and, like any other MMORPG you *will* eventually cancel it.
So I'm not sure how fair any comparison, based on subscriber numbers, is between Guild Wars and *any* fee-based MMORPG.
I will say that I find WoW about as much fun to play as sanding my rear with grade C sandpaper. GuildWars, on the other hand, I enjoy greatly.

WoW only has more players due to its customer basis... everyone knows wow through warcraft/diablo/starcraft etc.. guild wars is new, watch, once the word gets around guild wars will be #1 population wise

What you talking about?? GW has been out for ages. Everyone knows how that game is. GW brags about 1 mill 'subscribers', right? I might be wrong on this number, but please correct/flame me about this, and even make it 'THE POINT' of this thread).WTF is that for a number? You dont even pay for this game, it says NOTHING about how many plays that piece of garbage.
Nevertheless, WoW has more players due to many reasons little fanboy...
Heres 2 MAJOR reasons:
1. WoW is a MMORPG
2. WoW is better, way better. I don't, play GW cause its utterly garbage, even though I got 2 copies of the game; 'Special Edition' and a regular one. Well, I dont play WoW either, so dont call me a "WoW fanboy". (Waiting for Age of Conan & NWN2, while I play Oblivion)
All my friends, many of them former pen & paper RolePlayers, just as me, ONLY plays WoW (Or Oblivion). None of them, I repeat, NONE of them plays GW. Actually I dont even know a single one person who plays GW. But then again, we come from a filthy rich CIVLIZED country with high class standard, who can afford to pay for a game that cost no more than 2 bottles of beer on a low class restaurant.
So what it cost to play, is irrelevant for us normal people.
Can't compare them, one (WOW) is an MMORPG and the other isn't. If people want to keep calling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we can safely say it isn't the best. To me GW has always been like a FPS with a fancy, 3d chatroom to talk to your friends in, in between matches. Like someone else already said, there aren't any fees with GW, so nobody will ever have a reason to cancel.
As said already, Guild Wars isn't a MMORPG. It doesn't have even close to the amount of content that is available in WOW or even EQII for that matter. The only reason they hit a million people is because they are
A) Free
PVP
C) Easy (Don't even have to level up or do quests)
Any kid with some grass cutting money can be in playing this game and fighting within 10 minutes. It's in my opinion not even comparareable to WOW. They both are Fantasy genre games but beyond that little is the same between them.
As to the topic title I think the OP is a little delusional. WOW has already topped Guild Wars. 6 million plus people are paying $14 a month to play WOW. 1.5 Million people are playing (or at least bought the game) Guild Wars for free.
Truth be told, WOW is a genetic MMORPG freak. No one is ever going to grab those numbers again for a long time or even come close. I'm looking forward to several MMORPGs and have cancelled my WOW account but I realistically doubt any of them will see 6 million subscribers.
If people are going to say GW isn't a MMORPG and then say it is a MMO. Can we at least meet in the middle ground of MMOG.
Though you would assume MMO+RPG =MMORPG. _________________ M=Massive=" Large in comparison with the usual amount" M=Mutiuser/player=more then one user/player O=Online="Connected to a computer or computer network"
G=Game=" An activity providing entertainment or amusement" RP=Role-playing=" An instance or situation in which one deliberately acts out or assumes a particular character or role."
So all an MMOG is be defintion is a "Large in comparison to the norm activity providing entertainment or amsuement that allows more than one user/player to connect to a computer or computer network, (in which one deliberately acts out or assumes a particular character or role)"
Popular opinion, doesn't change definition. Typical MMORPG, doesn't mean you must be 95% like WoW, or fail to be a MMORPG.

You claim Guild Wars isn't an MMORPG because exactly what? It's got 1.5 million players. In towns/cities they can all play together, crafting, roleplaying, forming guilds, getting quests, finishing quests, selling items to npc's, buying items from npc's, joining/leaving/forming parties, etc. So 1.5 million players PLAYING together: Massively Multiplayer
It's played Online
In it you creacte a customized character who fills a role in a group and you can even 'roleplay' that character depending on what your personal prference is. So it's an RPG
So how is it NOT an MMORPG? I'll be the first to jump right in and say it IS a CORPG because it is marketted as such but saying it's *not* an MMORPG is silly. It's not a *traditional* MMORPG but that doesn't mean it's not one at all.

People don't like calling GW a mmo because you will never get more than about 100 people together in the same "world". Either it's the instances out in the wilderness with your party, or it's Town_Instance_143 and so on. You are always in a instance.
I don't think any mmo released this year will come close to the numbers Wow has. Maybe it will never happen again. All big upcoming names in the mmo genre are not destined for big subscribtion numbers. Vanguard is too hardcore. Age of Conan is too mature. Maybe WAR. But I doubt that though. I think it will be more advanced than the instant gratification kids like. GW won't reach it either I think Maybe a couple of million. Maybe that is why arena net is turning the game into a eastern "Omg, Win 1 million $!" game. It starts to remind me of games like RyL and many of the asian free to play mmo's.

Sorry, WoW is instanced too. Not to mention it's broken up into separate servers with only about 3k players on each, some with much fewer. So how is that any different? The ONLY major difference between GuildWars and more traditional MMORPG's is that once you leave town it's just your group in the instance, nobody else. But in town you are able to play with anyone. And moving between instances is both possible, and common practice so while, yes, it's instanced, you aren't forced into just 1 instance in the cities/towns. You can move between instances with ease. So arguing that instancing somehow makes it 'not an MMO' is silly. DDO is even more instanced and they call THAT an MMORPG. LOL

Wow has instanced Dungeons and battlegrounds that's it. All players on 1 server can meet up if they want. That is what defines massive for me. Thousands of players that can meet up on one spot. Without going through immersion breakers like changing to Ironforge version 234. In GW all players can never meet each other. They can chat. But they can never see each other. Instance changing works if you are just a couple of people. Not even that works always. There is a limit for how many 1 isntance takes. You get situations like "Let's meet in Town_132" "oh Town_132 is full" "Then we have to find another" "I think Town_34 has some free spots" Stuff like that totally breaks the immersion for me. I don't call DDO a mmo either. Because of all the instancing. In the end it doesn't matter what you call them. But I won't call games like GW and DDO mmorpg's. I won't play them either. Because the instancing kills the game for me.
GW is a fine game. WoW is a fine game. But, they are two different types of games. Should not be compared. GW is a fully instanced, small environment game; not really a MMORPG at all. WoW is a fully realized, large world, large population game with a small amount of instanced content; a true MMORPG in the classic definition.
If you still wish to make the comparison, WoW 6+ Million Subscribers > GW Subscriber count, whatever it happens to be.
Sorry, 'Game over, man, game over'. WoW wins. No contest.
WoW may win in numbers, but it will never win in community maturity...never ONCE have i ever seen (even in the GW beta) players basing other's skills on their levels. in WoW you have immature so called "players" running around thinking tthey are god just because they are lvl 40+, then AFTER someone manages to beat them in PvP or a duel they complain and say the winner was cheating. in GW they never once say that in PvP because everyone knows its a game and its for fun. even older WoW players need to grow up.
Let's say, WoW is a traditional MMORPG, and GW is a new type of MMORPG. GW is GW, WoW is a MMORPG, and you can't compare GW to other games, basically because it's so unique. You can compare WoW to other traditional MMORPG's that there are tons of out there. What's funny is that WoW always includes in a comparison of GW. There are too many Blizzard fanboi's out there...

Hi Guys
I think GW is just as great especially now when GW Factions came out. And another plus is : No monthly fee's.

well, before i found auto assault guild wars was on the top of my list of: get now or regret it

It is as close to mmo as Diablo 2 is mmo.
That said, GW is excelent game. And i hope to see much more games in the future being similar to this online model....
