Christians boycotting DaVinci Code Movie

reavoreavo Member Posts: 2,173
Do christians not know the difference between fiction and non-fiction?  Wait a minute, I guess that's a loaded question.  lol.

Can they not find something more worth their while to get involved in?  Everyone knows it's not a true story.

I had to reply to this because this post ammused me.  I havent heard of any boycott by christians, but I wouldnt put it past 'them'.  I dont mean to offend anyone by saying that.  Just thinking about people, who are christians and go to church, wanting to see the movie and sneeking in so no one would see them from their church.  It just makes me laugh.

Here is a intresting question to ponder though....Do you think that this 'Boycott', no matter how big or small it is, will hurt the ratings for the movie?  I would have to say I doubt it....but thats just me.

Nope, I don't think it will have any effect at all on how many people go see it.  Christian groups like this have boycotted Disneyworld, Ford Motor Company, and countless television shows with absolutely no success.

Consider the fact that they try their hardest to manipulate people into acting how they want them to act.  It's a power and control thing, just like most religions are.  They try to guide people with fear and guilt.

The movies going to be a box office boom.  And they're going to be left with egg on their face.  I think people are starting to get a little fed up with these groups.  Things are changing and they're about to get shown the door.

This reminds me though.  I have a question.

How come christians are so adamant about saying that other religious groups are going to hell except for the jews?  You never ever here a christian down a jew for their beliefs.  They throw this judeo-christian society crap around like they're locked arm in arm in their beliefs.

I mean, they say that the Buddhists are going to hell because they don't accept Jesus as their savior.  Yet, the jews call Jesus a false messiah.  Even the Muslims hold Jesus highly as a prophet at least.  Wouldn't they feel closer to the Muslims than the Jews (self combusting Muslims aside)?

I am asking because this never made sense to me.  I'm genuinely curious about the whole thing.  I have jewish friends who say that christians are worshiping a false prophet.  Doesn't that get christians a little wild?

At least all the Christian fanatics do is protest. Imagine if this movie was about Islam? What do you think would happen then?

These are not Christans. They are obviously "somthing" else. Real christans (even half christans) wouldn't things like boycotting or butting in any people's business.

Uhhmmm...  I don't know the answer to that either.  You're right though, it doesn't make sense.

Do christians try to convert jews?  I would see a big fight going on there.  Do jews try to convert christians?  Their beliefs are very different.  I mean, your talking about whether Jesus was legitimate or not.  That's a pretty heavy difference of opinion for them to have.

Which one of them are right?  And how come they never yell and scream at each other?

I'm christian, but even I know that it's just fiction. My sisters been trying to get me to read it for a long time, so i may see the movie as a shortcut instead.

The Jews believe that there will be a Messiah of divine origin that will come to redeem mankind of his Sins, the Christians believe he has already come, the muslims believe there is no redeemer and doesn't recognize original sin.

So that would be why Christians find more brotherhood with Jews than Muslims. There is quite a disparity between Judeo-Christian belief, and Muslims; the difference between Jews and Christians is that one group believes the redeemer has come, the other doesn't; but besides that fact, they are very similar.

    Hope that explains the question.

And who classifies "real" christians?  You?  All religion is fake imo, so no matter if your a "real" christian or a "fake" one.  Don't they all follow the same beliefs?

Protesting an entertainment movie, based on a fictional book (otherwise known as a novel) because it challenges their understanding of a disputed historical book that may or may not be a novel itself.

I love it..... truth is so much stranger than fiction

    No pun intended

    blarg, dammit, not another group!
It's these bunch of people that give the rest of us Christians a bad name. Why do they continue doing this? So sad, so sad...

It's mostly that one Christian would say "I respect all religions." Another would say "I hate all other religions."
Im that respecting kind, As far as i've seen we're supposed to respect other beliefs and be kind to all, even our enemies. I go with Buddhists(Spellcheck) in that all religions are a path to God.

One other thing, I really hope this doesnt become another religion-bashing topic...

I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.

Can't really respond to that. I would say that you should just respect the fact of it, but I don't know if you can take that like an adult would(sp,no offence). I'm saying that a christian, would normally shrug the movie off. Not protest aginist it, so something are just wrong about those people.

I wouldn't get so apathetic so quickly.
They may be affecting your life sooner than you think.  Hopefully not, but groups like this would love to get more power.  Power over what you hear, see, and experience.

I'm not paranoid over this sort of thing. boycotts happen all the time and from all ranges of the political spectrum. Plenty of groups want to control everyone else... its nothing new. From the whacked out militant christians to the whacked out militant environmentalists, etc. Boycotting a movie will change nothing... those who wish to see it will still see it. Those who don't, won't. Plenty of christians went to see The Passion of the Christ, and the atheists stayed home. No biggie. It may just work the opposite way here. The movie will be big in spite of any 'boycott'.

Yea, but the atheists didn't boycott Passion of the Christ. Why they feel the need to push their belief is a pertinent concern.

The atheists aren't quite as much of an organized group either. Christians tend to congregate together at least once a week. I think that's just a natural result of any organized group. Their boycott does not affect you. Let's not pretend lefties don't boycott things, shall we?

That there is an 'announced' boycott should only drive up ticket sales to the movie, anyways. Take solace in that. :)

Ted Baehr argues that it will poisen peoples chances of developing faith in the Gospel that are ignorant of the teachings, I honestly think faith without doubt is unchallenged and is bound to be misdirected. True faith comes from listening to both sides of the story and developing your own decision in God's plan he gave all his children "freewill".

Professor Hubert Farnsworth - That question is less stupid but, you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

    1) I have no problem with Christians boycotting a movie... especially a story about a fictional coverup by the church and the "real" truth of Christianity.

    2) Can you imagine if someone made a movie about the "real" secret life of Mohammed? The truth behind the religion, etc etc? Just imagine for a moment the reaction... then re-evaluate the Christian response. (Of course, by the world's reactions to the rather obscure european political cartoons showing the prophet, I suspect a lot of western countries would be lining up to censure the movie.)

    3) Jews don't recruit... in fact, it's really really hard to join the Jewish faith. Even if you do, I suspect (just a personal feeling, not an attack) that you'd always be somewhat of a second-class Jew... a not-entirely bona-fide one.

    4) Be honest, you KNOW there are people around who watch movies like this and start forming conspiracy theories of their own. I think the Church has the right to ask its members not to encourage this sort of entertainment by paying their money out to go see it.

Yep more of the Church trying to gain control and you are just trying to justify it for them. Why else would they ask for people not to see it. It's Church showing a very vulnerable side to them, obviously they feel threatened by this movie. If they didn't feel threatened then why are putting any energy into this?

Fun fact: Dan Brown lives in New Hampshire (and same town I lived in) and He visits a French cafe that's attached to the building I used to live in a year ago (I was just 30 sec away). Now I live about 40-50 min away. But it was pretty funny learning that while I was reading His books.
