Eve Online 3 Years Old Today

LardarzLardarz Member Posts: 55
I know lots of people on this forum don't really like Eve Online due to its high level of depth and unique, some would say 'dull' gameplay. It certainly is not to everyone's taste - more 'Elite 4' than 'Everquest' so takes a while to get into, and many people are annoyed that it doesn't have a '/dance' emote.

I am one of those people who have played Eve since retail release 3 years ago today and have seen the game go from strength to strength.

Eve Online is 3 today, and has another 5 years in her at least.

Happy Birthday Eve, and Congratulations to CCP and all the players for making it the best thing to happen to online gaming since the invention of the PC.

/waits for the flames.

Just kidding. Great game, once you get into the possibilities there's no end to the wonder and you can literally do anything you want. Great people, too.
So happy Birthday, EVE,.CCP keep up the good work.

    Yay!

And may there be many more.  What an amazing story EVE has been in the gaming industry, even for those who do not care for its gameplay.  An independent game with internet distribution and scant advertising and it continues to grow, steadily, three years in.  Hats off to CCP for a job well done!

Gratz Eve and CCP. Awesome game. That is a true player run mmo. But is it really 3 years today? There is nothing on the official website about this.

Congrats to EVE, it has changed enough to be a very new game compared to the first version.

Let's have it become so "old" that new players won't have to deal with maxed out vets.

Funny how fanbois rave about how good EVE is, when it is the most repetitive MMO I've played. Depending on how you spec your char, you either mine all day, or you hunt pirates all day. WHOOPEE.

LOL, as if thats all there is to do in Eve.
You haven't even scratched the tip of the surface with that comment.

This was exactly the type of response I anticipated when I posted this thread tbh.

Eve isn't about flying a ship in space. Its about teamwork, territory control and leadership. Mining and hunting pirates is only really for the most newb players there are.

A few more years and all those learning skills will begin paying off huh? Congrats to all Eve players these past three years. Glad to see the developer’s continuing success.

So I'm going to spend months of boring gameplay just so I can have fun? Why would I bother doing that?

Ask any member of Goonfleet or Goonwaffe if their first 3 months in Eve hasnt been fun.

I was going to reply and argue but forget it. Argueing with an Eve player is like argueing with a religous nut. They are convinced what they beleive is the all end truth even if the masses disagree.

Congratulations to CCP and all EVE players, I am not one of them however, tried it and it wasnt for me.

It is admittedly one the best games out there but has in my book two things against it.

No real avatar, something like EnB station walking would have been enough, kinda like sitting at home alone playing a very lonely character in space, two wrongs do not make a rigth.

I also do not like the fact that what ever I do, regardless, I will never ever catch up with the "early birds", time is the only factor to gain skills, not what I do.

This skill ystem is what sets EVE aside from the rest and probably why many like it, not me though.

But they have a good thing going and I do not see them changing anything for the likes of me, heh..

    LOL.

The EVE players have a point. It's repetative, so is RL. Eve allows you to venture in nearly unparallelled social games and war-mongering.

But sure, go back to WoW.

I may quit time and time again but sooner or later I always find myself venturing back into EVE, congrats CCP.

Isn't it funny that no matter the topic OR the game IN THE TOPIC, there are ALWAYS trolls, who for whatever reason think that the OP or topic matters not, and they MUST spew their pointless drivel not knowing that it makes them look like utter imbeciles.
Free world, free boards, so we put up with em', but the juvinile whineage is nearly unbeatable sometimes.

If the thread is about likes/dislikes, sure, have at it.  This isn't supposed to be one of em'.
    --------------------------------------------

Anyway, for a game/world/vr-universe that the "experts" said wouldn't last 6 months put together by a small group of people who had NEVER been in the game industry OR coded a game before........

for a game that lost its publisher just after release, and spent months on end trying to get the rights back so they could put it online for players to get...........

for a game that was nearly void of content at the beginning, but with so much potential:

CONGRATULATIONS CCP.  3 years and growing, and going strong.

    Grats CCP.

    Eve rocks.

Eve online is fun once you get used to it.  It's all about the time, patience, and you soon will have a nice big ship with a corporation waging wars with other corporation for control of areas.
I've played it, it's fun for me and boring at times, but when the combat begins, it just gets exciting and hard!  I was rich too! ^.^

It's a ROLEPLAYING GAME, not a space sim.  That trips up a lot of folks, who seem to think "Ah, a space game, so it must be a space flight sim" ... that isn't EVE.  In a roleplaying game, how you fly your craft, how you succeed in battle, etc., is dependent on your character's skills, not your player twitch reflexes and dexterity.  You as the player decide what you want your character to do, but whether your character succeeds in doing it depends on your character's skills, not the player's out of game dexterity and twitch reflexes.

That clarification aside, I'm the first one to admit that EVE is not for everyone.  It's a game that develops slowly, and it is both designed for and rewards people who like a long-term horizon.  It's not a fast-paced action-packed whiz-bang type of game experience.  I'm not knocking people who like that game experience, different people like different things, but for someone who likes a more involved, studied, complex, deep, long-term experience, EVE is superb: politics, intrigue, diplomacy and betrayal, war and conquest, bravery and treachery, all in a player-driven economy and world.   There's really nothing quite like it in MMOs at the moment.  It is unique, and it is superb at what it does, even though clearly it is not for everyone.

I think that we get grousing and negativity in threads like this one because there appears to be a lot of resentment out there from people who do not like EVE at the fact that the game is highly rated here, for example, and that it continues to grow steadily in subscribers, despite the fact that they don't care for it themselves.

Happy B-Day Eve! Ive been playing for 2 months now and Im having a blast. WoW was fun for the leveling and outifitting to lvl 60 but no competition with other players was boring felt like I was playing a single player RPG. Eve always gives me the experiecne of playing with a world of others. I hope Eve has many more B-Days!

Thats getting pretty old now. "Oh, you don't like EVE,so you must be some kind of WoW kiddy fanboy".

    get a clue.

anyway, Grats to CCP.3 years and still goin strong. its a shame I never really got into EVE. English is not my native language, and I had a lot of trouble understanding everything the Tutorial explained to me. and I have an annoying trait that when something is not explained to me in detail or I don't understand, I quit. however I liked the things that I experienced. I like the realism of EVE, a space ship actually moves around like a real space ship would, I also liked the combat. and the game was pretty to look at.

Congrats to CCP for a job well done.

Fact of the matter is that no matter how much people flame from each side - EVE Online is the only PVP MMO on the market. No other game has the same level of PVP, teamwork, politics, territorial control and war.

It's a game programmed by CCP, content by players - that's the beauty, here it's the community that uses the game as a tool to shape it's history.

If you want singleplayer content and cute avatars theres better games on the market - if you want PVP there's nothing even remotely close to EVE.
