Here I was looking forward to playing Vanguard. And then i wake up to this news.
Forget this...
I wash my hands completely of this game....I'm finished with VSoH
I will not invest another 2 years in a game (like I did with SWG) just to have it ransacked by one of SOE's combat upgrades. I don't trust SOE, they're not in the business of making high quality games...they're in the business of destroying games and making as much profit while doing it.
I don't trust them and since Sigil has chose to align itself with this company, I don't trust Sigil.
/lowering my hype for VSoH
//looking forward to my second choice, PotBS.

Sigil knew the feelings of most of Vanguard fans towards Soe.
Still they ignored the fanboys and went on with the deal.
That's tipical Soe so I guess both companies deserve each other

-Im sorry if I offend you but you really need to open up your fucking eyes and read things out carefully. Ransacked by one of SOE's combat upgrades? IMPOSSIBLE why? Because they do not have ANY say in development they cannot touch the game or the direction of it in anyway this has been clearly stated by both parties. I dont trust this I dont trust that.. you guys clearly have no fucking clue whats going on and the reasoning BEHIND this descision.. if SOE had the development rights in anyway then I would be flipping out but they are only going to be the publisher we have NOTHING to worry about.
I just can't fathom why these game companies form communities that takes months to build only to isolate a huge part of it on idiot decisions like this.
This decision is something Vanguard will regret. It might help enable them to release on time. But aligning yourself with a company with such a bad reputation (even if it's only to publish) is a bad move. The fact that Sigil doesn't recognize this is telling.
Anyway...I'm finished with SOE. They are not going to receive another penny from me ever again.
/I'm finished drinking "unicorn giggles".

You have an opinion and i think that's fine.
However, if Sigil is going to have them publish the game, that means that my monthly fee (at least a part of it) will be going to SOE. That's not going to happen...sorry, SOE is kind of a sore spot for us SWG refugees

The logical order of things to happen as i see it, from various other SOE games is this.
1- SOE starts publishing VSoH
2- Sigil will end up being bought by SOE and having full rights to do everything they want with the game.
3- there's no number 3
so for the people who fear that this game will turn into a mess, i don't blame them realy, since $OE has a reputation for ruining their games, oh btw mythic does that too.
"Under the terms of the agreement, SOE will provide distribution, marketing, hosting and back-end support -- including billing and technical support -- for the game. Additionally, SOE is tentatively planning on adding Vanguard, upon its release, to SOE’s Station Access™ subscription plan. Station Access allows players to enjoy all of SOE’s MMO titles for one low monthly price."
Sounds like more than just distribution to me, but please by all means continue with your little bug out thing.
(btw, i humbly sumbit a #3......profit)

Guys you real aint going to miss nothing if you boycott this game. It is bland borning and has no content what so ever....
The beta forums are full of post asking why people are not playing...
"Reading through the past 6 pages, it seems as if many do not understand why people are so upset about this move. Perhaps a bit of history will help explain things:
1998 - a company called 989 Studios (part of the Sony family) entered beta for EQ
1999 - 989 Studios changed focus to PS games. Verant (first called RedEye) Interactive was born. EQ launched.
2000, April - Verant starts developing SWG.
2000, June - SOE acquired Verant.
2001, October - Brad leaves the company.
2001, December - Luclin was launched and EQ, as we all knew it, began its decline to a game that rewarded mediocrity and pushed expansion after expansion with unfinished content and bugs that would never truly be fixed.
2003 - SWG is released and has approx 300K subscribers.
2004 through 2005 - SWG gets hit with a series of SOE nerf bats called expansions and upgrades that essentially boil down to a bait-and-switch sales tactic. No one is playing the game they bought, but instead are playing an on-line twitch game. By end of 2005, SWG subscribers were estimated at 10 - 20K.
So, while the PR and subsequent posts from Brad and Smedley all say that Sigil will retain complete control over the game, SOE has a history of acquiring what they want full control over. Many of us realize that it is only a matter of time before SOE will not be content with a role limited to game distribution and marketing. "
This pretty much sums it up.
All ur Mountain Dew is belong to me.
This is just disturbing. As big as the MMORPG market has become in the last two years (thank you WOW), one would think that Sigil could have approached some investors or an established publisher that does not have the tainted history SOE has and had a COMPLETELY different response from their once potential playerbase. If they had picked someone other then SOE we could have gotten behind them because I for one, and not a Microsoft fan. I think this speaks volums about Brad's comfortzone and his unwillingness to take a real chance.
My distaste for SOE began with SWG. Right after the Revenge of the Sith was released, SOE did the CU upgrade. That was when I went out and purchased the game and even spent the 20 bucks for the strategy guide that was endorsed by SOE. This was in June of 2005. I was also playing EQ1 so I subscribed to the All Access pass. Then, last Fall the NGE was dumped on us. I had no motivation to stay with SWG after that point and went back to just playing EQ 1. Droped the All Access Pass too. That fall was also when DOD expansion was released. The price tag on that expansion was $29.95. What happened next was what ended any motivation to ever deal with SOE again. LESS THAN 4 MONTHS AFTER RELEASING DOD AND CHARGING US 29.95 FOR THAT EXPANSION THEY RELEASED THE TITANIUM PACK THAT INCLUDES ALL OF THE EXPANSIONS PLUS THE DOD I JUST PAID FOR. And the price for the Titanium pack was 19.95. I also laugh that SOE is still trying to market EQPLAYER, a cheap attempt at copying what Magelo, Caster Realms and Alla have done for years.
Some questions though that seem to have not been answered. Why is SOE adding Vanguard to the All Access Pass? I remember when SWG came out. It was not added to the All Access Pass until much later after release.
Why should we be nieve into believing that SOE does not have the ultimate intention of buying Sigil out? Of SOE's current lineup, when Vanguard is added to the mix they will have 3 fantasy (D&D type) MMORPGs being hosted. EQ1 and EQ2 are owned by them and to this day I still do not understand their reasoning to market two similar style games that they both own against one another. Add Vanguard(currently owned by Sigil) into the mix and it just does not make long term sense unless they ultimately want to own Vanguard and make it the EQ3. Their games are sucking wind. EQ1 is strictly for veterans, no new blood is entering that game. EQ2 is trying to be a direct competitor to WOW. Most EQ2 players seem to be former SWG/EQ1 players that do not care for WOW. Matrix online is a Joke. SWG is a Joke.
SOE is only concerned about money, not quality. Remember, they are the ones that pushed SWG out the door too damn soon and ended up destroying the game instead of fixing it. SOE is the one that places preasure on the EQ1 team to push half finished expansions out the door every 6 months. If current EQ1 players would be honest with themselves they would see that they are paying to play the beta of these half finished expansions.
Wow is the devil in the MMO market. It's true that the market has increased and there are alot of new faces, but since alot of people are fairly new to the MMO market they don't know what's out there and tend to rely on WoW as the average MMO. If WoW was really the average MMO I wouldn't even be posting on these forums, the game is simply trash and is only successful because of the warcraft/starcraft players who hyped it up.
I miss games that weren't so carebear-ish and had diversity, not simple attack 1, attack 2 and jump buttons. Games like StarWars Galaxies that forced the user to learn about how things work, not just handed over as hotkeys for default attacks and heals.

Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.

Actually EQ had pick of active subscribes during Luclin and PoP expantions, around 450k, after GoD went live, numbers started to go down and keep going down everyday, as ppl quiting game but new ppl not coming to world of Norath.
So saying that Luclin brougth end to EQ --- just wrong, may be it changed game but not killed it.Most big impact to EQ was from WoW and EQ2 ofcose, and if VG going to have all what was promised, EQ gonna be dead city soon after VG goes live.
straight from there website the only thing SOE is doing is helping put
the game on the shelf with material costs etc, Sigil Games will have
all say over the game itself not SOE......
You would be better off saying, Sigil will only make the game, SOE will run it.
Read the press release, its all there.
All ur Mountain Dew is belong to me.
sigil will be handling in game cs other than that you are correct.
read this http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1044304#post1044304 then come back and talk to me about the vanguard/soe fiasco.....
I won't touch the game because SOE is involved. Period, simple as that.
I don't care if SOE is only giving Sigil stamps to order Hentai pr0n from japan. If one cent of my money goes to SOE in anyway shape or form (Which is part of the deal between SOE and Sigil) I won't come near it.
Call me whatever you like for feeling that way but I can only get raped by a company so many times before I go somewhere else. It's the principle of it.
If Brad wants to hop in bed with SOE it's obviously his choice.
I'm not sure what it's going to take for companies to realize (DC Comics and Sigil) that SOE has a shit reputation with gamers and aligning with them is going to drive away people.
So, that makes ....
Vanguard
Gods and Heroes
DC Comics
Quite possibly Star Trek Online
For upcoming games that SOE will taint.
/sigh
I couldn't have been worse unless AlQueda published the game.

And, now they rae banning people that speak out against SoE on their forums....
Eh guys, have you look around?
Bioware is making a MMORPG!
You know you are all drooling over a MMORPG that would be the noble successor to BG2/KOTOR...
Verant lead to SoE, SoE lead to Sigil, Sigil lead back to SoE...bah, just join the official Bioware fanclub!
Personnally I honestly don't mind the news, Vanguard was already down the shaft, with a slight glimpse of potential, I see SoE as improving their product at any rate...will it be sufficient?
It is all pointless, in the end there will be Bioware for the players!

I was with this thread until the guy said WoW was a terrible MMORPG. I know that every MMORPG is dreaming of a failure of the scale of WoW. WoW was a great game between Levels 1-60. The end game was not for me, but I would probably still be playing if something more interesting wasn't coming out.
I don't think I want to sign up for another SOE project after SWG. Therefore, I will probably give Vanguard a pass.

Do you know why a lot of people don't like WoW? It's not because it's not a decent game it's because it's too easy on the scale of being a LITE MMORPG. It removes so much of the skill from the market and have made it a dumbed down game that seems to be affecting all the future games coming out trying to strike it rich with mass appeal on the scale WoW did. Just because so many people are playing it right now to me doesn't mean it's great it means it appeals to a market that never thought of playing a MMO before. I bet over 90% of the current players of WoW it's their first MMO which isn't a bad thing. It might mean that when they play a harder MMO they will bitch and scream that it is to hard and try and force it to be too much like WoW. This is kind of happening with VSoH and how so many are wanting it to be like EQ.
As far as SWG goes I really do feel sorry for anybody that played that game for any length of time. When it first came out I was really excited about it and then the reality of it set in that it would never be how I wanted it so I stopped playing it. So many people get really caught up in these games and think they are their game and not the companies that make them. They see changes they don't like as a personal attack on them and not what it is. You have a wallet vote when a company makes such changes at the time they make them by canceling your account or writing letter do the company. I just can't see getting so emotional over something so trivial is worthwhile. If they did physical harm to you or your family I could see such reaction but not if they nerfed a game you liked. Thats just my 2 cents.
