Did you know that brad was only one of the owners of verant right? John Smedley was verant's president and probably the biggest shareholder most people seem to forget that, so in the end was Smedleys choice(i dont think that an amateur computer programmer as Brad McQuaid had enough money to own a large part of a games company that was making a 8 million dolar game).
So he was sitting on the floor in the fetal position screaming "Nooooooooo NOOOO I won't take the money!!! I don't want to sell my baby! Go Away!!!!"
Right.
He went Cha-ChING! Deposited his check, bought a big sportscar and eventually created another company.
Now he'll launch this game when he scrapes it together, and depending on how many people buy it.. he'll either sell it to $OE for a modest or obscene sum.
Welcome to reality.
I dont care if he agreed or not, in fact i believe that he did. I was just pointing out that you were blaming Brad for selling Verant to SOE when in fact that was not enterely his fault, from what we know he may have been against it.
Will Brad sell Vanguard to SOE? i dont know, from what i've read he is not interested but things change and nobody can assure that he will not.
I just dont care, if he sells Sigil to SOE then he will get the money that he deserves, if he dont he will get the money that he deserves.

If Brad had Verant sold out from under him against his wishes... why would he have jumped RIGHT BACK IN BED with the same people?
You're giving Brad too much slack here. He did this because it was the best financial situation for HIM. $OE probably made him a sweet deal just so they could have the chance of having ONE successful title with ZERO investment cost.
When you make a deal with the devil you get something. He got paid. Now Vanguard will suffer the anti-$OE backlash.

Im not going to say that i disagree with you here, since i dont. Im so sure about Brad motivations, while i dont think that were as altruistic as he claims that are i dont think that were driven exclusively by the money.
And i dont believe that SOE is the devil, i dont like them, in my opinion they are the worse MMOGs designers although they are not that bad at marketing and server operation.
So as long as Sigil is independent Vanguard will be safe, if that changes in the future... well that would be a pitty. But for now we have to look to the facts. The facts are that Sigil decided to break his relationship with microsoft, managed to get enough money to buy vanguard publishing rights and hired SOE to run their servers, maket their game and distribute their game.
Most SOE haters are blaming Sigil for something that they havent done, if you want to blame them for hiring SOE instead of NCsoft or any other company, that's ok. If you want to speculate about what could happen, that's ok as long as you stick to the facts.

Considering the definition above (from your quote), its not what SoE planned or desires. SoE "desires" WoW numbers, they are chasing them day and night.
But to stop wordpicking: The initial spirit of this topic was Vanguard and SoE.
SoE's involvement in Vanguard isnt helping the title in my opinion. Too many refugees coming from SWG, hoping to find a new home in Vanguard. Now their "raper" shows up there.
Tell them again, how "good" that is, they might havent heard you talking over their screams... (That counts for me as well, FYI)

In fact SOE involvement is helping the title, since they dont have to worry about the servers, the billing system or the distribution. Basically SOE is providing the same that Microsoft did except the money to finish the game.
It may not help them to get players... but there are few million mmorpg players that either dont care about SOE's past mistakes or never heard of them... So losing some people because they feel that SOE is the devil incarnate is not that a big deal.
If the game is good they will get a lot of people, if is not sigil will have a lot of economical problems and may be forced to sell the company to SOE.
I sort of agree. I think the community here did fly way off the handle.
Recently I reactivated my station pass (bad me) I needed a break from L2's intensity.
I logged into EQII and its a very high quality game with alot to offer. Yes, they revamped it but its still pretty good.
Planetside is still a blast to play. You gotta like that sort of thing though. If anything, planetside could use a graphic overhaul but its still a pretty good game considering its age.
SWG - I have no idea wtf the problem is there, I believe they are doing far to many revamps and not focusing on the real problem which is lack of any meaningful content. You can revamp combat 100 times but if the players have nothing to do, it doesn't matter. Personally I think they have acted far to extream to the player feedback. They need to complete the game, add all the features then worry about revamps.
I never played EQ or the Matrix so I really don't know about those two. Keep in mind the Matrix was bought by Sony after its launch, it was not developed by Sony so you can't really hold them responsible for what the game is only what they have done with it since they got it.
All in all, they are not that bad, they just really took on the chin for f***ing up one of the most popular franchises in the world, Star Wars, which they deserve.
