Do not hate it, but instead embrace the diversity.

technically I played Meridan 59 for a test or free trial period, It sucked. Really I played SWG first back in july of 04, and haven't found a game as deep and immersive.
My first popular MMO was, I think, FFXI
Which FF Character Are You?
A little time passed, I was looking for a change, and then Everquest was released. I decided to give it a try. I hated it. Oh, how I hated it- most of it, anyway (I did like the artwork and the faction system). I played it for about 3 months, hoping I was just missing something, but it didn't have anything I hadn't seen in a MUD other than graphics and extra players; the game mechanics, the classes, the races, even the commands were all things I'd seen in literally hundreds of MUDs. I'd pretty much decided to go back to MUDding, where at least there were more themes to choose from, when Asheron's Call was released. I bought it, I tried it, I loved it, I played it for four-and-a-half years.
By the strictest definition, Everquest was my first MMO, but Asheron's Call was the one that really took hold of my imagination. Still, I probably never would have tried either of them if it hadn't been for MUDs. God bless text games.
MMOG? If it counts it has to be Starcraft. Other than that the first one I really sunk my teeth into was Starwars Galaxies. I didn't do much MUD'ing before then. Action games and RTS's where more to my taste.
Jenuviel, you must have a will of steel. I tried MUD's once. Looking at the map frustrated me. It was convoluted. I was looking for the weapons shop and I ended up in the middle of the "Forbidden Land".
It went something like:
You are now in area 6/28 of the Forbidden Land. A monster is coming after you. It looks powerful. What do you do?
Me: What the hell?! I just wanted to go to the weapons shop. Umm... run?
Apparently I stepped in a random portal teleporting me to the edge of the world. It's cool though there are players out there who enjoy MUD's.
But the my first true MMO was Ultima Online and The realm "owned by sierra".
Those where the good days...
Currently : chillin'
My first one was Anarchy Online Played it for 6 months orso.
Then came DAOC, my longest played MMORPG till date. Spend 2 1/2 years at lvl 45-49 constantly rvr'ing. Once i reached lvl50 i quitted within a week.
World of Warcraft was my first, but it was FFXI that really got me into MMORPGs (and I still play it).

EQ was my first, it was love/hate all the way with EQ LOL.
