Having said that I do believe that we are genetically pre programmed to eat meat so I dont beat myself up over doing it.

Peta is way too hypocritical to follow. They use shock tactics to spread their message, where Pen and Teller use cold hard facts to debunk them.
Where else do you suppose I find the videos on animal cruelty in factory farms? Just because PETA may be hypocritical in some aspects does not mean those videos I showed are a lie....you can even watch them to prove it! I don't call myself a peta member but they do have decent resources on their website.
The violence those ALF were doing on the video was only violence to the buildings and not to actual living beings like the scientists were doing inside the buildings. Atleast they didn't say they killed anyone on the video. I guess the scientists got a little taste of their own medicine?
They also didn't go over the fact that animals are tested for cigarettes and skin and beauty products...I guess if Penn said that then He might look like an idiot for defending cig and beauty products.
Also they never said why they had to put to sleep all those animals. They brought them in for some reason (must have been bad) and had to put some to sleep. Why? They were probably sick and ended their suffering.

That's awesome. Those fast food places are complete garbage so i'm glad you gotta out of that scene, 90% is way better than anyone I know. Just to let you know, you will find all the same nutrients in meat as you will in a vegan diet. While at the sametime in a vegan diet you won't get cholesterol, saturated fat and high levels of oxidants. I don't want to beat you up either though, because that is really great.

If you hunt or fish for food that is fine, but if you kill animals for sport, you are a jerk. If anyone hasn't seen the outrageous undercover videos of dogs and cats being skinned alive in China for western European fur fashion designers, you need to watch them. Anyone who wears fur after seeing those is just heartless. If you do eat meat, you should also watch some of the undercover videos which show abuse in chicken slaughterhouses etc. It's important to understand how your food is processed and not just stick your head in the sand.
What I don't understand, is why in a supposedly civilized country like the USA, we allow 4 million perfectly healthy dogs and cats to be killed in animal shelters every year, because we are unwilling to pay taxes to provide for their sustenance, yet we have no legislation limiting the breeding of dogs and cats. It makes no damn sense.
If we can legislate limitations on hunting and fishing wildlife, why can't the flip side of that coin be implemented, the limitation of breeding domestic dogs and cats?
Neuter and spade education and programs have not been successful enough, and unfortunately many people still won't get with the program and adopt their pets from shelters only, and still support the greedy pet stores and private breeders. All players involved, the sellers and the buyers, are contibuting to the overpopulation and are directly responsible for the unnecessary deaths of shelter animals. So sad.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with eating other animals, we are an omnivorous race and should therefore eat meat and vegetables. Im only 16 and Im incapable of not eating meat, but I also can't stand the animal fabrics where animals are reaised in TERRIBLE conditions, so they can make more money.. this I don't support... its a bit ironic as I suppose I eat meat from those places, but I think the best I can do is sign those petitions that circle around for animal rights and tha tare against animal abuse...

Did you watch those videos that Alex posted? While im sure that not all of the slaughter industry is this inhumane... there are still ones out there that are treat the animals in sickening way, like in the videos. I couldnt believe how they castrated and branded that cow, that was just... ugh.

And I must agree that most people that are abused are also helpless, but never to the extent of an animal. In either case its an act of cowardly as you abusing a being that is helpless. And I believe that people abusing animals should be punished as much as those abusing other people.

If I thought everyone's definition of animal abuse/mistreatment was the same as mine then I might agree that it should be punished. But I know that it's not.
I could sympathize with the animal rights people if they didn't go to such insane extremes. There is a difference between intentional and unnecessary cruelty and doing something unpleasant because it has to be done. But people who affiliate themselves with animal rights groups don't seem to be able to make that distinction. For them it seems that ANY rough treatment is abuse even if it is necessary.
Here is my veiw on it.
What is ok in my eyes is when a cow is raised to be killed for meat. They are given alot of food. A place to live. AN space to roam. When their time comes, they go to the s. house and get killed very quickly and sold to us (and to other animal food companys, they use crude protein in making dog food, cat food, ect...). I do think however these animals should not be abused while they are living.
Animals we use as pets should be treated very well. We taken them in as a responseability (spelling >.<) and we should treat them with as much respect and love as we treat our family and friends. If someone finds it funny to tease, hit, or abuse a pet they should be shot.
And by harshly I mean death/life imprisonment.

No, if I was a lion I wouldn't have abstract thoughts. When a lion can come onto a message board and debate his importance with me, he won't need to since I'll accept him as an equal then.
Why does a lion need to speak human to show you His equality? I think it wasn't too far back blacks spoke fine english and still treated like shit. So really its because animals can't speak english and are of a different body type that they are inferior? Oookay.
What if lions had our technology? They would still eat other animals. Biology dictates that they are carnivores. They eat only meat. You should be trying to convert animals to become vegans. I mean... we're all animals, aren't we? If we can become herbivores, then so can lions.
There is no language called "human." Animals don't speak different languages. They lack the brain capacity to have, as was pointed out by Pantastic, abstract thought. This isn't The Wild Thornberries.
Comparing someone's skin, even though they have the same brain and thought patterns as a highly evolved, sentient being, to an animal is a horrible metaphor. Black people are not inferior. Animals are. Black people have different skin and bone structures. Animals have different biological DNA. If you think just because they have a nervous system that they are exactly equal to humans, then why don't you keep fighting until animals are recognized world-wide as a native race with their own respective cultures that should be preserved by treaties, diplomacy, and peace-"talks"?
Using those violent videos are a low form of "swaying" people. If people showed videos of war crimes, do you think we should all just step up and stop war? Sometimes war is necessary. It's as inherent in humans as eating animals.
