I have always loved Star Wars. And I loved Star Wars Galaxies all the way... until recently. I have never been a power player and have never ever had a template of the month(Pre NGE).I have only  seen a Krayt once since the start 2003(and he gave me a free travel to the cloning facility). I have only played this game as the Devs intended and I created my own content and roleplayed as often  as I could(I guess thats what the RPG means).

Pre-CU I loved to:

Manage my water farm. I had a house and a bunch of small water extractors on a nice spot on Tatooine(I worked hard to set up that farm). On the side of the farm I set up a little hobby workshop,  were I used to build some droids to help me out on the farm. A couple of times a week I went out to hunt(solo or with friends) training on my pistol skills(very handy to use to fend off dangerous  creatures at my farm).I loved to sit in a small Scout/Ranger camp and talk with my hunter friends. Looking at the stars(and some scary big Star Destroyers) and just get the feeling that I was right  there... in the Star Wars Universe.

Maybe twice a week I went to the bigger citys to put up my water on the bazaar. While I was there I enjoyed the cantina(drooling at the entertainers) and healed up my wounds in the medical center,  that I have got from the harsh enviroment during the last couple of days(sometimes almost my whole health bar was black).

Cantina:
To walk into a Cantina and find it full of people sitting and talking about Star Wars things was just awesome. Loved to stand and listing to the Droid Engineers trying to sell some droids to a  customer, a Weaponsmith bragging about his/hers latest "uber" weapon(I remember when DL44 was "Uber"). Musicians gets together and plays as a big band. Dancers dancing all over the place. And all  Entertainers talking to their customers. They are chatting about all between Space and ground. Some times "2 weeks in the bush" smelly Scout/Rangers or a real hard neck Bounty Hunter or a war worn  Commando comes in to the cantina and tell amazing war/hunting stories. I could just sit in the Cantina for a whole day listening and consume SW feelings.

Medical Center:
Medical Center was my next stop after the Cantina.I loved to sit in the MC get my wounds tended and listen to the Doctors talking to each other about things who to me sounded like a other language.  Just like in real life! They where talking about buffs and healing all sorts of things I still have no clue what it means. And the patients talked about the hunts/combat they just been in. I always  got the feeling of being in the SW universe.

Bazaar:
I always bought some minerals and food to bring with me out to my farm. My droids needed some repair work and there were always nice to have some food in case of a hunt. Sometimes my pistol broke  and I had to buy another one. Sometime I bought some clothes or armor parts. But I dont needed any battle armors, just a simple kind of protection against the creatures that was around my farm.

It was always nice to meet some people after a couple of lonely days on the farm. Sure I got some friends who visit me from time to time. After a couple of months I meet my (ingame roleplaying)  wife in Mos Eisley cantina(Of all places). There were a big marriage on my farm(all my friends were there) and from that day and many months ahead I was never alone out there again. :)

Grade:(All in all a superb star wars simulator. Sure there were somethings that was buggy or broken.Sure there were some crazy things going on in the community(Hologrind). But all in all I got my  Star Wars Fix. And many people with me. **** of ***** stars.)

Post-CU I loved to:

Get one hit killed by creatures around my farm. Before CU I always had a chance of escape or to take a stand and fend off the creature. No more thanks to the level system.
The cantina and Medical Center experience was ruined by afk entertainers and no more wound tending in MC. It took the fun out of returning to the city after a couple of days
in the middle of nowhere. And I couldnt wear my simple protection anymore. Had to buy combat armour parts.Armor got restricted to the profession. Thanks alot.

And..heh... my ingame wife divorce me(unsubscribed). I was alone on my farm again.

Sure not all the things was bad in the CU. I could still have my farm and my pistol and my droid hobby workshop.

Grade:(All in all it felt like the world of SWG got smaller and the game mechanics started to show through the superb graphics.Alot of people left and some of them come back after awhile. Some  didnt. ** of ***** stars.)

Post-NGE I love to:

Swing my glowystick at yo. pwnd pwnd pwnd.

Grade(Muuhahahahahaaaa of ***** stars.)

    Yeah you right. ::::08::

pre,post,nge,cu..it makes my head spin. I remember when it was just SWG.

Yeah I had some really nice rp times in SWG. Well now I guess all there is to do
is to make a stormtrooper armor out of tin foil and use a wooden stick as a laser blaster
just like I did when I was a little kid. Thats more star warsy then SWG will ever be again.

Hmm. Sitting here wondering. When did they change the creature Ai? I remember that creatures got scared and ran away from you if you got to close or shoot at them. Have I been dreaming all that? And some times the creatures sneak up to you and sort of checked you out. Have I been rp this or was it once in the game? :D lol

It must have been a long time ago.

    /taps into Ranger knowledge

Pre-CU there were many different creatures that were "Stalkers".  They were aggressive and if you got close to them (but not close enough to aggro) they would scent you and then follow you.  Some for a great distance.  That is why the mask scent was useful for scouts/rangers.

If you weren't paying attention, you would pick up a stalker and then they would attack as soon as you stop moving (and they caught up to you) most of the time that was when you were engaged in combat with something else.

    I miss those days!

As for the getting scared and running away, I think you might be thinking of one of the specials, though I can't remember it's name.  Esentially you would use the special (ranged combat) and it would frighten the creature, the creature would run away for a little bit then come back for you.  I don't remember any specific creatures that would flee from combat, but it has been over 6 months since I played regularly.

The critters outside the citys actually backed away and scattered (if you weren't attacking them) if you ran towards them in the old game.

Yeah. Thats it. Stalkers. I remember some times creatures stalked you. You would stop then the stalker stop too. When you continue to walk it continued to stalk after you. It always stalked you like 40-50 m behinde you until it saw a chance to attack and then charged. It freaked me out sometimes.

Didn´t Ranger have a skill that make it say on the screen. "You are being stalked by a....."?

I remember that there were more types of creatures too. Scouts and stuff. Once the scout saw you he run up to you checking you out. Then if you hit him he run back to lair and get the other creatures. I miss the good old days too. :)

Yeah thats what I meant. They run away if you run toward them. But I think you could prone and sneak up to them and get closer..but not to close. Then they scattered again and run away.

Yes, at some point while progressing up the Ranger tree you would gain the ability to detect if you were being stalked by a creature.

When taking a group out hunting for resources, I had a macro set up to warn the group with a push of a button that we picked up a stalker.  We would then pick a good location to stop and kill the stalker then continue on with our hunt.

Sounds neat. I almost made a Ranger Pre-Cu, now I almost regret that I didnt(I loved my farmer too.).

But I had alot of Ranger friends, they were all very nice people and there was something special about them. They could go out into the wilderness for days with almost nothing in their inventory and still survive. They learnt what to do in dangerous situations and they learnt to live with the enviroment and creatures. I always tought there were something spiritual about them. It was more of a life style than a profession.

Sitting in a scout camp with the fireplace at night in the plains of Tatooine with the stars and the moon(s) up in the sky...there was something special about that. Chatting with my Ranger friends and "listening" to the silence around us. I miss it.

If that wasn't the exact wording for the mantra in the Ranger forums, it is very close.  I'm certain Almagil knows what it is.

And for all those that say the forums (pre-CU) was filled with flames, well I had always avoided the Jedi/BH forums during that time.  The ranger forums had a great community there.  I actually am sad that I missed the last few days of posting there before the profession was removed.  I did manage to find the archives and spent hours reading all the posts from people that really loved the ranger lifestyle.

Wow just Wow....you remind me of a friend of mine from 3rd day of release.  He led a simple SWG life of his farm and business out of his house.  He has a son that played with him as well. I remember coming to visit him and his son every once in a while during the hologrind and they would be amazed with my new professions mastered.  Eventually i gave on the hologrind around 16 professions when i realized i loved being a master doc/tkm.  So many things about this game that i miss...I remember times just hanging out in the starter towns in Tatooine in Cantinas.  Noobs would come along looking for entertainers, and I would answer their questions and give them some credits to go get themselves a nice weapon to level with.  The way noobs were amazed at me gave me a feeling like i was a Jedi, being larger then life to them, helping out people and teaching them how to play the game.  The greatest thing about SWG was you really didnt NEED the high end content to keep you playing..  Most of the best content in the game was created by US

C'mon! Look at what u wrote man!  Rangers? Stalking creatures? Scent camouflaging???

Are u nuts??  All that stuff is fun, engagin and interesting, not to mention full of roleplaying possibilities!!  That's y they got rid of it and brought in NGE!

How on earth could someone seriously believe today's game is better than the game before?

    I guess fewer choices/possibilities/versatility = fun

    It... does... not... compute...

Well you definently bring back some great memories of a different game.   It was a fairly complex game but not so much that you gave up in frustration.   Finishing a skill box felt like an accomplishment and had one excited to get through the next one.  Actually it was one of the very few games that I had a sense of accomplishment for each step of the way be it finally mastering Scout 100% and picking up Novice Ranger, then filling up the required 10k in scouting XP ( long time ago ) to advance through Novice Ranger at which point I had the dilemna of which skill box to color in first: Wayfairing, Fronteiring, Filed Bioscience, or Advanced Trapping?  I think I went through Wayfairing first for the Camo bonuses.  Anyways I will stop there as I could go on for a page or two about what made a complex game a fun game and the little nuances in the skill trees that could make or break your outing.   Ranger was just one of the classes I enjoyed.  Think I skilled back down to just Master Scout and went Master BE on that particular toon.

Some of the more notable stalkers I have encountered while doing DNA samples were:

Borgle Life Sappers ( they would stalk you, kill you , then DB you )

Merek Avengers ( no DB but would tell friends so they could stomp you as a pack )

    Remmer Warriors

Voritors ( oh yeah really good stalkers and DB to boot, at least the Hunter variety did )

Those are the ones I had the most fun with.  I think Lok as a planet had the most stalker types as a whole but Endor and Dath stalkers would put the hurtin on you.

oh those voritors....  what was the name of those higher levels ones? was it the hunters??

They'd poison or disease  you, take a beating from 2 or 3 masters (before buffs/armor craze) and still smile back at you.

These stories are hard to read. They bring back such great memories but they also bring back the pain and anger of not having that game anymore. My main toon was a BE, I must have spent over half of my subscribed time crawling around on my belly!!!

    Man I miss that game.

My main toon was obviously a ranger (I always pick ranger if given a choice).  My other alt was a MBE, for over a year as well.  MBE/MChef until the CU, then MBE/Master Merchant, then MBE/Master CH.

Oh man, I loved the CH system they came up with just before they dumped it for the NGE.  And yes, I spent a lot of time on my belly as well

@Britoca, I think those were the hunters (slinking?).  I honestly didn't spend much time on Dant, it was way to crowded for my tastes.

Nice to hear of so many people who has the same feeling about the real SWG as me. I total understand that the real SWG never gonna come back and that the new NGE never gonna be as the real SWG.

But they never gonna take away those memorys from the real SWG game that they took away from us. Im quite happy that I got the chance to play such a nice and fun game.

Ever since I was a child I have been wanting to live in the Star Wars Universe. Back then all I got was a couple of SW action figures. I used them to build a Star Wars world in my head. I could play for hours with them.

Now as a grown up I still love the Star Wars Universe. But my action figures lies in a box in my basement and my imagination isnt that great like it was when I was younger. But now I got to use SWG instead of my figures. The Devs gave us all "toys" a Star Wars fan can dream of. Stormtroopers, laser guns, creatures, dirty cantinas, bounty hunters, enviroment from the movies, rebels, tie fighters,x-wings,even Jedi and many many more things.

They created a great SW playground with all toys a SW roleplaying nerd(*wink* me *wink*) could wish for. Now it was up to us to play with the toys and use our imagination and create some real SW content...in the greatest SW saga ever told...ours!
Some of us started to play with the toys and create our own content like crazy. Some other just sat there with there mouth open and waited to be spoon feed the content. They sat there and no one ever came.

Well the rest of the story you all know.
When they moved from sandbox roleplaying game towards arcade shoot em up they lost my and many other peoples interest in the toys.

Well I may be way out of line with this..but this is the way I feel.

I think back on the real SWG with a smile, even though I dont know if we ever gonna get to play with such nice toys again. My lovely memorys from the old real SWG is no one ever gonna take from me. *smiles*

By the way. While I was playin on Chimaera I frequently ran into a great RP community. Back then I think they called them self "Mos Eisley Roleplaying Association". What I always found cool with them is that while there were people writing angry posts on the forums about not being able to smuggle, not being able to be in a underworld crime faction, the GWC is not working and so on, these guys and girls made up own rules within the game so you could be a criminal hunted of the local police enforcement, you could have a underworld crime lord as a boss, you could be a smuggler who need to get by nasty Imperial guards, big and small roleplayed clashes between rebels and imperials.Only your imagination was your limit how far you go with the RP.

Sadly SoE changed the game rules so everyone and his grandpa started their character in Mos Eisley. The rp community was forced to move to Mos Ethna. I remember one time I was in Mos Ethna. I was sleeping over at a hotel in the suburban parts of Mos Ethna. I was playing away some coins on the slot machine in the lobby. There were some other people sitting in the lobby too. Suddenly a drunken guy came in and started to pick a fight with one of the people that was in there.

After 5 min two polices officer(they had played made clothes that was the same and looked like police uniforms) bursted into the door. They ordered eveyone to lay down on the ground. I was so in chock of the scene so I got down on the floor. One of the police officer walked over were I lay and said " I scan this one."

After a while he said "This one has no record of crime and are not wearing any illegal weapons"..."You are free to go Mr. But stay out of trouble." I walked out side and heard that they continued to scan the rest in there. At last they brought out the drunk guy and I guess they took him to the police station were he gonna spend the night.

I just searched the net for this community and I think this is the one(not really sure). LINK

These people have great respect from me. This are the type of people that can take a great "toy" and make it so much better.  Their tool? Their fantasy and imagination. =)

Wow my small ramble become a big ramble. Gonna be quiet now. :)

Remember the Imperial crackdown. I used to get stopped all the time. It really made the place seem more real Eventhough I knew it was just an NPC rountine running, it still made me nervous when they scanned me while I tried to remember wether I had any sliced items on me. Those times were so much fun.
