Doubt it.  Warhammer isn't as popular as the Warcraft Franchise.  Also most of the people who are into Warhammer are also into warcraft; only its a smaller portion of the warcraft community.

I am a veteran Warhammerer and let me tell you: WE HATE THE WARCRAFT FRANCHISE. It is basicaly like Games Workshop converted into a childish genre on the PC - we hate it.

Warhammer is more popular than Warcraft is in the UK, Australia, France, and Germany... as well as New Zealand; so excluding the juvenile WoW community of the US, I think with just those five listed countries playing w/ the US would be a treat ^^.

Warcraft is like a lazy version of Warhammer: too untalented to paint? Can't be fudged gluing or playing with the rules? Why not try WoW! Today!

I clinically hate WoW and agree the WARHAMMER will be the next big thing.

World of Warcraft came to the table with a huge fanbase.

I don't know if Warhammer or Mythic have as big of one.  Maybe they do.

But I think that part of the popularity of World of Warcraft was that original Blizzard and Warcraft group of gamers.

I hope you're right though.  I'd like to see Mythic kick some butt.  They deserve it.

how you can even compare warcraft and warhammer in the first place is truly beyond me, the mmo will be the first thing that they can be compared to. the only warhammer most teens of today know is Warhammer40k, not the warhammer warhammer online will use as a setting. and please don't bother saying warhammer will attract 5 million adults, we saw with D&DO that setting your goal on a franchise Adults used to/still play doesn't work.

there won't be a new western game that will hit the million mark anytime soon. the only game that has a chance is Lord of the rings online because of the franchise name.

i honestly just dont see anything else out there even close ( new game ) ...

STAR TREK ONLINE i dont even think   STO will be as popular ...i think it will definitely be healthy .. and if they choose to stay away from SOE a lot of the star wars fans will come here ...but not as big as warhammer i dont think ..

AGE OF CONAN will be big ...but not half as big, it will be " healthy" though in subs

AION  will be another niche game ...

SUN is going to be the korean version of guildwars .. and it looks beautiful i may try it for those days i want to just mass murder and play casually ...

FALLEN EARTH .. now this game from what ive read, heard and seen, looks amazing but it doesnt have the hype or the advertising and market moves to get big ... if i were to go with this game id have to sacifice community .. and hope the people that did play could keep it alive for a long time ....( im looking to commit)

VANGUARD: SAGA OF HEROS .. well from what ive heard from beta testers , the game kinda sucks, its boring they are concetrating mostly on mounts and player housing .. and decorative stuff .. but i hear the combat is jerky, the graphcis are generic and boring and the content is boring as heck ..the crafting is so/so .. dont want to commit to a world ive done a  hundred times before

GODS AND HEROS: looks generic and lackluster to me ... dont want to commit to a game or world ive done a hundred times before that will bore me to death .. and again SOE kinda turns me off as well

LORD OF THE RINGS ONLINE.. this game i think people will give a chance ... and it will have a large subscriber base intitially, but at the first sign of suckness people will run ...and i think a LOT of people like me have grown to learn franchise games generally SUCK .. developers put too much weight on the brand name and get lazy with the developement ...i also think a lot of the LOTR fans will wait and see before buying to see if its any good .. the same happened with D&D

HEROS JOURNEY this game looks sick ... but again i dont think its getting the hype or market awareness other games are getting and its community and in the end its development may suffer from this ..

so thats why im really leaning towards WARHAMMER .. it just looks to be sweeping up in terms of market awareness

Sadly, I'm not even looking forward to any of those as I know they will all disappoint me. I have almost comepletely given up on the genre. The only game I'm looking forward to, which I don't consider an mmo, is NWN2. Maybe I can make my home there with whatever few roleplayers are actually left.

I think Warhammer is going to take some of the customers WoW has, and alot of people who never even played an MMO are going to join because they enjoyed the tabletop version of Warhammer for years.

They'll both do quite well existing at the same time though,
i have a feeling the more mature players will head for Warhammer and leave WoW to the children.

Warhammer will msot likely take a sizeable chuck of the current WoW player base, the PvP'rs. Although after the threads on the official forums recently (A GM telling someone to stop PvPing basically, and 2 other GM interferences in the last month or so) I don't expect the PvP'rs to be around by 2007 anyway.

I don't think WAR will come *anywhere* near WOW's subscriber base.  But I do think/hope it will be reasonably big.  I'd say it has a fair chance of hitting 1M, prolly more than what other upcoming MMOs will get.

Their fanbase is nowhere near the size of battle.net, but its still respectable: PVPers, DAOC players, WHFB (and maybe 40K) players.  Add in the people will try it because of hype / for the hell of it and *maybe* it'll hit 1M.

Personally I played WOW cause I loved the WarCraft fanchise.  I left because PVP was pointless and the raiding endgame exhausting.  I still love Warcraft, but I'm looking for a better PVP / endgame experience.  Maybe WAR will be it.

I don''t really know when Humankind will die out but i''m guessing about 6 years before WOW.

Warhammer will be big, no doubt about it..

It will be the huge winner next year by far. I just cant see any other game that can match it.

So what exactly is it that is so special about this game that sets it apart from the rest...Or rather draws the brainless in - IE: WoW - that will garner it so much support?

Name can't carry everything, as shown by D&D:O

Name helped DDO a bit with 300k sales.  That should cover the development costs.

Well, its an RvR game being done by Mythic, whose DAOC is generally agreed to be a very good example of PVP/RvR done right.  The focus in WAR is supposed to be PVP.  Not 1 on 1 duelling or gankage PVP, but invading other kingdoms and sacking their capitals PVP.  I've tried PVE endgame and its not my thing.  So I'm looking forward to trying a PVP endgame from a company well-known at building such things.

So in other words you're saying it's DAoC with a well-known name and a facelift? - So no originality is being brought to the table? More deja-vu *I've been here before and done that* mediocrity?

Please point out where I said DAOC = WAR.  Thats right, nowhere.  I said it was an RvR game made by a company with a good reputation for RvR.  Would you buy a car from Hello Kitty?  No you would go to a reputable dealer.  Same thing.

I inquired as to what were the highpoints of *curiosity* and *originality* in this game and all you were able to point out was, *Mythic*, *PvP DAoC style*, *RvR*.

I heard nothing of any reputable originality from you about the game - So there was no need for you to say it, it was said; if you mis-spoke, or I mis-understood and it was not an answer to my question, then excuse my assumptions, but that was what I am *assuming* you particularly meant.

Beyond that this thread has gone past pointless.

Hmmm ok.  Sorry then, I'll try to be clearer.

WAR says that its going to be 80% PVP and 20% PVE.  That for me is prolly the largest differentiating factor.  You can level to max by engaging in PVP quests.  For example, say the dwarves have this quest to bring grog to other wounded NPC dwarves to heal them.  The orcs could have a quest to kill them.  So the quest system is designed for players to butt heads, and yes you do get exp from killing PCs.  (I hope Mythic finds a way to get around x-teaming).

There is no con system.  You cant tell a players level by looking at him.  Though, higher level players will look more badass.  Orcs in particular grow bigger, get more muscular and wild-looking.  You can also decorate your avatar with the heads, beards and other body parts of PC you killed.  So if you see a huge orc with dwarf heads for spaulders, he's prolly high-level.

IIRC, there will be battlegrounds a la WOW.  Unlike WOW you can actually win.  This is kinda hard so Im gonna resort to crude drawing:

    Orc     5  -  4  -  3  -  2  -  1     Dwarf

Say the war begins in BG#3.  Eventually someone wins, the Orcs push the dwarfs back to BG#2.  Fight fight some more.  The Orcs push the Dwarfs back again into BG#1, their capitol.  If the dwarves lose a third time, their capital is sacked and (presumably) their entire faction takes a hit of some sort.

I also hear the quest system will be branching.  If NPC A pleads with you to go retrieve his gold stolen by bandits, you could do just that.  Or kill the bandits and take of with the gold yourself.  Stuff like this impacts on your reputation with your faction etc but theres little info on it for now.

There's alot of stuff still missing, I dunno if my info is 100% correct, and no info's been released on thing like crafting etc.  But from what Ive seen so far Ive decided to be cautiously optimistic.  Its not genre-busting like EVE, pre-CU SWG or maybe even Seed.  But it looks polished with a strong concept and a new take on RvR.  So I'll wait and see.

Best place for info would be the WAR newsletters.  Mythic doesnt believe in hosting their own forums apparently.  You can find it here: http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/newsletterCentral/archives/

EDIT:  Erahn thats fucking awesome.  I take back what I said, I would so drive that Ferrari!
