If they stick true to the warhammer table top armies styles (as they said they are) then I don't expect to see stealth at release. If they put skaven (rat people) in an expansion there will definately be stealth like abilities. That army is all about ambush, sneak attack, tunneling underground and emerging behind enemy lines.
Yes, but there's a big difference between Skaven type stealth and wow-type stealth. Skavens cant be seen because they're moving in places where it's not possible to see them (tunnels for instance), not because they magicly vanished in thin air right infront of your nose. Once the skaven spring their ambush they cant magicly dissapear again.
Completely agreed and I should have been more specific. As I said though, I didn't read all the posts, just the OP (I've read them now). Skaven and wood elves DO NOT have invisible like stealth, nor should they ever. They're tactics were always sneaky, ambushing and suprise attacks. Tunneling under and emerging behind enemy lines and the such.
I would absolutely HATE to see invisibility-stealth anything like WOW rogues in this game. It would go against their originol franchise pretty hard.
I would be for a type of stealth for particular classes that involved shading or slightly transparent characters that could not be auto-targeted using Tab or whatever, and only when they're in shadow, corners or behind cover. Never completely invisible and always targetable when spotted. I don't see that being incorporated in this game though.
Depending on how they do the environments, being "stealthy" could still be a completely viable tactic for anyone.
i.e. not using roads, hiding behind physical objects like tress or rocks, using colors to match the terrain (white for snow, black for night, green/brown for plains), standing in shadows.
But to do this they would need to avoid the huge red "HEY I'M OVER HERE EVERYONE" tags that games like WoW put above peoples heads.
And in response to a post not too far above that mentioned there won't be 1vs1 fights. Where in the world you you get that??? There most definately WILL be random encounters between solo players in pvp zones. There are likely to be some 1v1 battles in the battlefields (non-instanced control points). Instanced scenarios and campaigns will be much less 1v1, but it's still possible to have those encounters.
Sure there will be a few 1v1 encounters,in the main though running solo in pvp in this game will be asking for a beatdown.
of course you do,that's the definition of a fanboi/stalker.this is hardly the place for such off topic hero-worship though, mail me at zakkstheking@fanboimail.net to continue.
"shield walls" won't be common or intentional. Try to get 20+ warriors to stand back and not run into the battle lol... The only time I see a shield wall happening is if the enemy was charing into a hallway and allies warriors are trying to fun out at the same time... and the respective casters and archers are behind them. So keep warfare and that is about it.
It wouldn't happen in the field because then playing a tank would be boring... so nobody would play them.
And that's exactly the point! People that actually care about tactics and discipline will rule the battlefields in WAR.
Take Red Orchestra for example, sure rushing into the enemie lines with your tank (i mean an actual tank, armor) is fun but wont last long. Staying put in a good position might be boring but you've got a better chance to win.
It's all about tactics, discipline, working together AND have fun.

Lumster, have to agree with you. Those of us who are waiting for CD to come of age, want to see actually tactics, positioning, speed and related factors come into play. Never liked the fake feeling of the aggro model. But there are a lot of people who resist change and are worried that they can't keep doing the same old thing. They will have to learn to accept it and we will have to be patient. CD will come of age soon enough.
It seems we have a strange paradox here. Most ppl feel that most ppl play stealth and it's a problem, yet most ppl don't want it included in the game...hehe
I get the impression most of the fighting will be done in/around castles and keeps etc so with CD shield walls at the front ranged behind will be the order of the day.Whether it's fun or not after the first few battles will depend on the implementation of seige weaps and the environments we're fighting in.
New to the WAR forums here. I think the no stealth plan is awesome. I never wanted to play a stealthy in DAoC but when you get one -two-three shotted continually from an invisible enemy, you make a decision: 1) Keep taking it in the poop shoot or 2) Become a stealthy. I chose 2 and became a stealthy. Not because I wanted to but because that was the way to avoid being killed with absolutye no chance of survival. Anyway Im sure things have changed but I love the no stealth plan.

Zakk didn't i tell you to shhhh it or move on?
NO STEALTH HERE KIDDIES, GRIEFERS, CAMPERS and SKILLLESS PEOPLE! THEY STICK TO THE WARHAMMER LORE AND NOT TO WARCRAFT.
And now go ebay yourself a nice ne rogue.
Well, that wasn't really a bump.
But I've got something for you:
"We have no pure "support" classes. In addition, we don't have rogues or stealth classes."
Hmmmmmmm, sounds nice eh?
Actually i love you zakk, it's just really hard for me to show it.
good
hate stealth
