I was there on launch day. Don't act like my opinions are invalid because I wasn't there. Oh, I was there.  There is no "before" I started playing.

Anchorhead was empty well before the CU or NGE ever came along. SWG is almost three years old. It's an old game that few people liked. Everybody started leaving because they were bored. You want to impress me with how many people you think were playing, start dredging up numbers a little more recent than within a month or two of launch.
And what's with the changing font sizes? Does it make you feel special or something?

and no i suspect its even worse in that you can only find a grouping of players at one key area any given time ....Your suspicions would be incorrect. I won't pretend that SWG is anywhere near launch numbers, but the Mos Eisley cantina is not the only place I've seen collections of people gathering - and this is at the same time. I can find a few dozen people in Mos Eisley, then a dozen in Bestine, five or six in Moenia, and another dozen or two at Theed. The game is growing in playerbase. It's not as empty as it was closer to the NGE.

what you dont understand is ( and which i told you was laughable) for you to get excited about 30 people hanging around the most popular cantina ( mos eisely) during a popular hour of play ... in a NOOB AREA NO LESS..
I can deliver stats from 4 am if you'd like, but I'm not going to bother staying up late because you'll just dodge around it somehow and believe whatever the hell you want to believe anyway.

its so very sad to me bro ...
Please do not call me bro. It's demeaning and you are by no means on a level where you can take such colloquial tones with me. If that's okay with you, pal.

these days are long gone .... this sort of DEPTH is no longer present in SWG.. and even though its a game this was the world a lot of us played in man ... it became more than a game .. it really became an RP experience whether we were RP'ers or not ... and that whole world was ripped away by SOE ... before we were able to get our fill of it ..
Good, now that you are out of the way back machine, let's talk a little bit about nostalgia and how it colors your opinions of the present. But nostalgia is a dangerous thing as you tend to only remember the good things over the bad. Yeah, the 50s were a great time, when homosexuals were beat to death and women were couldn't be anything than subserviant housewives. You are remembering special one time events as if they happened every day - which they did, because SWG had a HUGE population during the time you are remembering (slightly later, not so much).

If SWG had a greater population, even with the NGE, you'd find just as many stories to tell about it. But it doesn't have a greater population because people like you have confused gameplay with community. You think that because the game changed a bit, the people did too - and that's not true. It's just that enough of you felt (perhaps rightfully) betrayed by SOE that you abandoned ship. It has nothing to do with the gameplay changes. Those don't make the community.
You want to have that kind of stuff happening again, come back to the game. Tell all your friends to come back. The only thing that can make SWG what you want it to be is you - and it's cowardly and childish to sit back and wait for everybody else to go back first. You want a population? You build it. Don't wait for someone else to do it for you.
But I'm trying. I like the game and it is getting bigger. I doubt my advocation of the game has made a huge impact, but perhaps it has made a little - which is more than sitting in a forum grumping around like sad dogs is EVER going to do.

    Hyperbole 4TW!

You really need to stop reading government authored history books Squidi, all I'll say about that.  :)  First, it is probably not best to be angry with people for snide remarks, when your response is full of them.

Anchorhead on Eclipse was not empty well before the CU.  Once the CU came it started to empty out.  Pre-publish 9 it was one of the busiest PvP spots around.  After Publish 9 it decreased in importance, but mainly because of huge pvp cities such as Oasis, and the GCW shifting to Dantooine and Lok being the main planets of contention.

As far as the idea that you think the community has not changed, it's agreed even by Sony the community has changed.  They wanted a different audience playing their games.  That would assume the community has shifted.  Me personally the community drastically shifted around publish 9, and kept getting worse.  People were always trying to figure out the latest exploit to gain jedi faster, adn some were too lazy to even exploit, and ebayed.  So I don't look at this with rose-colored glasses.  The leet speeking population I would think is pretty certain has raised substantially.  I at least know it has on Eclipse, where "HEADSHOT PWNZ j00!" types are more in common.  (indeed my guild leaders are always tellin me bout it lol.)

Furthermore, the community is less focused on social content, and more linear led by the hand types.  The devested player economies (or at least devestated compared to what they were) are indication of this, as most people no longer need to group with anyone.  (Though supposedly this is supposed to change with Publish 29.)  Right now 95% of the game can be done solo if your a decent Pve'er.  (I'm not and I got to 40 without once needing a group, only asked a lvl 90 jedi to help clear a base out because i had to go eat dinner lol.)  Now there is nothing neccessarily wrong with this playstyle.  I personally don't like it in an MMO, but it is a valid playstyle in many games.  If there was a vibrant player community loot vs crafted equipment would NOT have to be modified significantly.

The reason people won't build a population is because (AGAIN) Smedley himself has said his game is not playable and is broken.  This was after he begged the community for 6 months to fix it!  And the game won't be fully fixed until 2007, assuming that their patches are flawless.  (And I think even you, since you've been there since launch, will admit hell will freeze over first.)

      squidi's BS:
"I was there on launch day. Don't act like my opinions are invalid because I wasn't there. Oh, I was there. There is no "before" I started playing."
"Anchorhead was empty well before the CU or NGE ever came along. SWG is almost three years old. It's an old game that few people liked. Everybody started leaving because they were bored. You want to impress me with how many people you think were playing, start dredging up numbers a little more recent than within a month or two of launch."
well then you werent there then Squidi ... because anchorhead used to be BUSTLING back in the day, we used to patrol the town as rebels, and PVP between us and the imps would break out DAILY .. and i was on a smaller server too ( radiant)
and these crowds im speaking of SQUIDI, were there well into the game's life span ... even after the CU there were still WAAAY more players then there are now .. even after the CU there were 200+ players any given day at any given hour hanging around the mining outpost ... or in mos eisely ... ( pretty much up to 4 and 5 in the morning )
      more of squidi's bs:
And what's with the changing font sizes? Does it make you feel special or something?

"launch numbers" you accuse everyone of BS'in squidi then you turn around and proliferate the " spin" in your own direction its ridiculous ... squidi .. im telling you now, you are LYING... i dont care what you say you are LYING ... if you are trying to tell me that shortly after launch this game was DEAD your wrong ....
but you who usually defend this game ... are asinine to sit here and try to convince people the NGE is better and more popular than the PRE cu and even the CU ... because its a blatant lie ... anyone and EVERYONE who has played SWG pre cu and PRE NGE KNOWS THIS >.. we have seen for ourselves this game has turned into complete shit, and subscriptions have suffered because of it .. then you come in here post, ONE .. ONE screenshot of 30 players playing after the NGE in a cantina and say the game is as healthy as it ever was? do you honestly believe anyone here is stupid enough to believe you?
those players log in and just chat in the cantina for the star wars experience .. THEY DONT PLAY SQUIDI...SHOW ME ONE PVP BATTLE SQUIDI>.... ONE PVP BATTLE!..   SHOW ME ONE BUSTLING PLAYER CITY SQUIDI!!!....  SHOW ME ONE PACKED OUT VENDER HOUSE SQUIDI!!!!..
SQUIDI CRAP SHOW ME ANYONE WHO ISNT SITTING IN THE CANTINA USING THE GAME AS A CHAT CLIENT SQUIDI!!!!
I can deliver stats from 4 am if you'd like, but I'm not going to bother staying up late .. bla bla bla
oh please ... save your BS squidi ... save it ... let me let you in on a little logic ... if the game was so wonderful and had such a high subscription number ( higher than a few months after release ) why is the game being sold for $7.50... why is there even a SUCH thing as " all access station pass " ? if the game was so unpopular then, and the population now, is so close to what it was .. why dont they sell the game as it was for $39.99 ... other games have been out just as long and longer and are selling for more money than SWG ... why cant you find gamecards in the stores anymore squidi? if the game is so " popular"?  do you honestly think they are making " more" money with the station pass squidi? is that your argument? .... THEY INTRODUCED THE STATION PASS CUZ NO ONE WOULD PLAY SOE's GAME's OTHWERWISE SQUIDI, ITS COMMON SENSE!!!!
squidi ... and last but not least if the game was so popular .. why are there HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of kids who come in here and post about how much the game sucks? while you and obraik and that one other guy continue to say we are crazy and the game is fine?
why are so many fans getting BANNED from the SOE forums squidi? if the game was so good? why are so many people on the sony forums COMPLAINING squidi? ...
THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO ARE SUBSCRIBING TO THIS GAME NOW ARE TRUE STAR WARS FANS ... AND MANY OF THEM HATE IT AND COMPLAIN TOO >> BUT THEY WILL PLAY ANY GAME WHICH HAS THE STAR WARS NAME ON IT >> JUST TO GET A CHANCE AND LIVE IN THE SW UNIVERSE
Please do not call me bro. It's demeaning and you are by no means on a level where you can take such colloquial tones with me. If that's okay with you, pal.
listen squidi .. why dont you pull that stick out of your ass.. stop being a herb and let this game die ... stop being a fanboi squidi, dont you realise we'd all be better off if they made a SWG 2? why keep this piece of crap floating?..
GET OVER YOUR ADDICTION TO THE LIGHTSABER, SQUIDI!!!! >> BE A DAMN MAN SQUIDI!!!

oh please .. spare me the " NOSTALGIA" argument... its BS ... i have a very good memory ... i know how things were .. i have the screen shots of me and my friends to look back on .... if you didnt experience this ... then you're obviously FULL OF CRAP about being a PRE NGE or PRE CU player squidi ....
you know i didnt quit right away ... i stayed after a while in the NGE .. I RAN A GUILD OF 200+ players on radiant ... i saw my entire guild fold over night .. and i followed them to the next game .. but kept my subscription ... and when i saw the planets dead as a doornail i finally left ... no reason for me to stay and " keep it afloat" ...
i honestly dont know where your loyatly to SOE stems from, but i think its pathetic youve kept your SUB this long .. and now REVEL in the possibility the game's subs might be increasing ( how ever slowly and lightly) when even yourself have said this is probably a fluke .. whether its to test out the new publish .. or whether its trial accounts from SOE MASS MAILING all the ex-subbers into joining up again for a bit ...and all they do when they log on ( the few that do log on) is sit in the cantina and chat .... because its familiar squidi ... it reminds them of the movies they love ...
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE PAYING SOE TO BETA TEST A GAME SQUIDI?!?A SUB PAR PIECE OF CRAP GAME AT THAT SQUIDI!!!!

the community DIED squidi ... it DIED .. im not even talking about gameplay here .. i hadnt mentioned gameplay once ..and btw for the record GAMEPLAY DOES HAVE A LOT TO DO WITH THE COMMUNITY YOU butthead! ... the mechanics of groups .. the availability of social interaction ( the worth of the entertainer, smuggler and crafter, in other words)... tradeskills, PVP .. GCW .. ect.. all died with the NGE and these are the major reasons people left .. not because it turned into a half assed FPS game ... people are willing to overlook the FPS, especially the fans .. when you see entire player cities die overnight .. CRAFTING TURNED INTO A JOKE .. and player grouping out the window .. AND A FLOOD OF LITTLE BABIES COMING IN, AND STARTING UP JEDI TOONS FROM THE ONSET .....WHAT DO YOU EXPECT WILL HAPPEN TO THE COMMUNITY SQUIDI!!!!
You want to have that kind of stuff happening again, come back to the game. Tell all your friends to come back. The only thing that can make SWG what you want it to be is you - and it's cowardly and childish to sit back and wait for everybody else to go back first. You want a population? You build it. F NO!!! ... im not going to tell my friends to come back ... id be LAUGHED AT SQUIDI ... LAUGHED AT ...
and finally you give insight to your true intention with all this argumentative confrontation and TOTAL DENIAL that the game has turned into a piece of crap ... and ill shed that light at the end of my post ...
its not a real MMO anymore squidi .. its part of a 5 PACK .. SOLD for $39 !!!!... its part of an " all access station pass " its turned into a FLING ... it has no potential for long term subs and never will ... its just a game someone will flirt with for a while while they test out all the games on the all access pass ....
its the kind of game now that ends up on the CHEAP RACK AT WALLMART SQUIDI!!!
why would i come back and play a game, where i dont have any trust in the developers who run it? play a game where ive been lied to .. and more importantly had the company running it, TRY TO STEAL FROM MY CREDIT CARD!!! why would i do that squidi?
you can take your game and shove it where the sun dont shine ... it sucks .. im not gonna DO SOE's work for them and get people to join up ... why would you squidi?
      WHY WOULD YOU!?!?!
YOU ON THEIR PAYROLL? YOU ONE OF THE FLUNKY PROGRAMMERS WHO SCREWED UP THE GAME? HUH SQUIDI!?!?!?!
But I'm trying. I like the game and it is getting bigger. I doubt my advocation of the game has made a huge impact, but perhaps it has made a little - which is more than sitting in a forum grumping around like sad dogs is EVER going to do.
its not getting bigger squidi ... and im gonna laugh my butt off when they finally cancel it ... and you know what your " excuse" will be squidi?
" well the game was old and it lasted a good 4 years .. thats something .. i had my 4 years and i moved on" thats what your going to say ... but lets not ever forget that this game could have lasted longer than UO if it was done right ... lets not forget that half the time this game WAs alive it was on life support , because of how much SOE screwed it up ...
lets not forget the only reason it DID survive .. was because of the STAR WARS FRANCHISE NAME ...
because lets face it squidi .. if this game didnt have the name " STAR WARS" in it ... it would be ABANDONEDWARE ...YOU KNOW IT >> AND I KNOW IT SQUIDI ...

I honestly now know where you're coming from though ... you are JEALOUS .. JEALOUS that you play the game now and dont have those memories .. and want to try and pull players into the game so you can live out your star wars fantasies within a populated game ... I know now you never played PRE NGE

I am sure they are counting all access pass people in their numbers, but as far as raw SWG numbers, ie, all access pass subs who actually PLAY SWG still, and pure SWG subscribers (not counting trial players), we are still well below 100K and falling.

We dip below 30K by December unless the Devs pull something major out of their ass that isn't brown and smelly (won't happen), or they offer classic servers (unlikely to happen).

I still think that SWG gets Christmas 2006 and that's it, plug gets pulled after we hit 2007 with <50K subs left and falling.

No MMO has ever recovered from even 1/10th the mistakes and downright customer abuse that SOE has inflicted on SWG and it's players. On the upside, I doubt ANY MMO producer will EVER dare come even close to doing what SOE has done to the live SWG game out of fear of becoming the next SOE/SWG.

Too bad it had to be our game they ruined to set that law into stone.

Considerably more people like the old game than they do the NGE. At least, there were more subscribers.

Back then, it was a standalone game, so there were also no random (or considerably less) people from Station Pass, which got the game as a bonus.

Think about it. Mr. Smedly's statement was: Pre-cu was bleeding subscribers. CU was "a step in the right direction", but they were still bleeding customers. NGE has reduced the subscriptions bleed.

So, if you have x subscribers, then take away from that number, and end up with y - which is larger, x or y?
