i think WoW haters should get their own forum to bash the game itself...it just pointless to post such threads....u cant even imagine what would hapen in a month....6 500 000 players wont quit just like that....get real ffs....and this is forum for WoW players not HATERS...so bug off and go bash something else...
Originally posted by Dabble I took a good long look at Darfall about six months ago. Looked like the perfect mmo. Unfortunately, if the complete disaster of DnL shows us anything, it's that these smaller developers have a hard time with the mmorpg genere. That isn't to say that Darkfall can't pull it off. But the fact that they were at E3 with nothing to show, and they have slated their release for the end of this year, doesn't bode well. Hopefully they won't make the same mistake as DnL and release unplayable garbage just because of a set date. But the problem there is, by that time, so many of these Q4 2006 mmos will already be out, and a few of them have great promise to take a big chunk of the mmorpg market, making it harder for Darkfall to compete. Anyway, it's all speculation, but we shall see....
I don't understand the DnL phenomenon. Even a quick galnce showed the developers to be rather hokey. I don't think you should draw any conclusion about other outfits from the DnL stuff. That game is/was run like crap it has nothing to do with size etc. Its always been a half-ass operation.
Anway Darkfall has been in development for a long time I think.
Only game on the horizon (no pun intended) for a number of years that might, I say might, challenge WoW is Warhammer. Nothing else is even remotely a threat to Blizzard's dominance. And who knows what Blizzard might be cooking up in the backrooms. If I was them, I would already have a secret project underway to bring Starcraft to the MMORPG scene.
For me, I will continue to play WoW until a quality MMORPG is available that has gameplay that matches my needs. And the only company with the track record to pull that off that is openly in development is Mythic with Warhammer.

Anyone that has anything negative to say about your Beloved wow is immediatly a hater. The game was/is fun to level 60 then blizzard bait and switch for game styles comes into effect with there only being 2 ways to progress in the game which is totally gear dependant.
I did enjoy my 18months in wow but thats it for me the expansion is unlikely to tempt me to resub.
But back to the original question.
I personally don't think one single game will noticably affect WoW too much, but over the next 12 months a number of games are on the horizon that will gradually draw people away from it. That being said WoW is probably going to be around for a number of years to come.
Games on my watch list are Age of Conan, Spellborne, Warhammer online, Vanguard (for curiositys sake to see how much it becomes EQ3), Pirates of the Buring See and Darkfall, additionally although nothing much is known about the Bioware MMO that will be interesting to follow simplay becuase of games like baldurs gate and NWN.
Originally posted by lsutig how many games did WoW kill? AC2? EQ is still going, FFXI, L2, EQ2, EVE, maybe DoAC? SWG went jihad on itself, AC and AO were never big hits, same with horizons, Matrix and D&D did nothing.
so tell me this, if WoW soaks up 6 million gamers and kills(maybe) AC2 why do people think one of the 10 listed in this thread will do anything to WoW?
and do we really need one of these threads a week for the next 5 years?
i got dibs on the stargate mmorpg killing WoW 3 years in advance!!11!1
I doubt any somewhat reasonable person thinks WoW will actually go out of business any time soon. However there is no doubt that there are alot of former and current players looking for something else due to a couple key problems many people do not believe will be fixed or are counting on the expansion to fix. So it is certainly possible that WoW may take a big hit sometime in the next year.
Sure even if they lose 50% of their players they still have 3 million which is plenty, but that is a big hit either way. And depending on the make up of the 50% they may actually a take abigger hit than it initally appears. People need to stop mutliplying 6 million by $15 a month. 2/3 of that 6 million is from China and therfore is really customers of The9 not direct payers to Blizzard. But even if that comes out to about 1.5 Mill * $15 per month or even 1 Mill * $15 per month its still plenty of money.
As for the expansion someone said that subs will increase 50%. That could be true, there are alot of people who really think it will solve their problems. I think they are fooling themselves but I wouldn't be surprised if it sold quite well. However its effect will most likely heavily depend on when its released and I'm starting to be pretty skeptical that it will be released by chrstmas. If some of these other MMO's are actually out by Q4 and BC is not. Well who knows what will happen. If BC doesn't start a Beta soon I don't see how they can release by christmas. Blizzard is pretty damn slow so I can't really see them blazing through some kinda Beta. And if they do and they have a buggy release they will get roasted what with server lag, pissed oceania guys, and the AQ gate fiasco.
Vanguard is in Beta but who knows how long that will take. I thinik AoC is in Beta so its possible that those two could be a christmas release. Who knows what kinda state they will be in though. If they release too early and are kinda crappy they might actually drive people back to BC instead of away. Who knows what will happen, its certainly way to up in the air at this point to say.

Heh I would hardly call mythic entertainment gods after the mistake that was TOA
But they seem to have truely learned from that mistake and every time I see something from WAR it looks more and more impressive, it is on my most watched list at the moment, but with over a year to go before it is anywhere near launch there is still a lot of work to do with it (I just hope it doesn't become another DnL )

Well consider Mythic people wince when you mention ToA or Raiding and Kaplan talks about how the best 10 man content in BC is the "tip of the iceberg for real raiders". Well suffice it to say the contrast is pretty stark. Clearly someone learned a harsh lesson and someone else has a thick skull.
