Gamers in numbers...

Does anyone have any information on the number of players in a game?

I.E. How many people play Ultima Online?

Shadowbane?

Everquest?

DAOC?

Etc etc. If anyone has some recent, information, please tell me. I'm really interested.

Sir Sven

This should be added to the FAQ.

Just off the top of my head, the numbers are close to.

    Lineage 4mil

    EQ 500K

    DAoC 250K

    SB 150K

Someone asks this every couple weeks, just use the search in the upper right. You can find bigger lists with links and charts by queter for every game you can think of.

Everyone said EQ has lots of players. I know, 500k is tons. But i never heard anybody say that FFXI is a massivley growing MMORPG. But after a little over a year, japanese people alone already have 500k accounts, while eq has been out for over 5 years.

Only place on Internet where you can find unbiased and most reliable (but definetly not 100% reliable)info about subscription numbers:

    2 things

    1)Latest update is July 2003.

    2)Sems to be down atm.

Noone else even attempts to provide chart like this. All those numbers you can find on internet are very aproximate and speculation. Sometimes some producer declares a number of account but usually number is inflated and in no way shows real number of active subscriptions (they include free trials, prepaid free month or more when you buy a box, free weeks return for old accounts and such).

As an example of those we can take figures above.

    ==============================
And besides, like it or not, people do try to "win" massively multiplayer RPGs. The rules of engagement are something like this:
    * If there is a status bar, make it grow bigger
    * If there is a number, make it higher
    * If it moves, either get a mission from it or kill it

I'm pretty sure the article i read said it was the US people alone that had 500k accounts.

The numbers are interesting to look at.  However, some of the games with smaller subscription numbers are still pretty good.  Some of the smaller games serve a loyal niche market.

    Played these MMORPG's:
    AC1/AC2/AO/DAoC/EQ/ATITD/FFXI/UO
    Beta'd: RYL/SWG/E&B
