I don't understand how WoW is below Guild Wars

WizGamerWizGamer Member UncommonPosts: 403
Okay, I don't believe this. Guild Wars gets a higher ranking that World of Warcraft. Guild Wars is great for the first three weeks sure but then it gets boring as hell and you are done. There is about 200 quests and the pvp is just the same damn thing over and over again. It's also not a fricken mmo for all you peeps who don't know about it. Its all based on your connection and everything is instanced, even areas where there are other people (which are only towns and outposts). Most of the time you find yourself playing alone. Well I don't see how a game with one of the best ratings of any MMORPG (every single CREDIBLE site gives it a 9 or above) and 5 Million PLAYERS. Thats not even accurate, it's close to six million now. (On a side note I went to Best Buy last night and they have gold stickers on the WoW boxes that say "5 Million Online!") My point is that WoW is one of the most complete online games. I know the pvp sucks at times but we can only hope for better pvp with the expansion but still, it's a great game with rough edges. Every thing is the same or better than other online games. I don't even see how EvE can get a higher rating. I thought it was boring as hell with the time it took you to fly everywhere and there was never anyone around and the controls were screwed up.

For any people that didn't know, World of Warcraft used to be ranked third, of course under Guild Wars and Eve Online still but now its topped by EQ2? WTF!?!?! A game with graphic leaks (I own it FYI), instanced world,  bad graphics, and crappy to nil pvp.

I think that people have been seeding posts against WoW because they are jealous of it and have really no experience. They just want their game to look good but would any of you guys say that FFXI is better than WoW?

Well, sorry for taking so long but I just felt the need to express this and maybe some of you could revive WoW on this site because mmorpg.com is one of the most trafficked online gaming sites. Thanks and I hope I didn't bore you.

While I would imagine that there are some WoW haters out there bringing the rating down, there are also ppl who have played WoW and genuinely like other games better the WoW.

But then Guild Wars should be further down the list too. Many of the things Wow is hated for exist in GW too, worse in many cases too.

You don't understand how WoW is below Guild Wars?

Here, I'll explain it to you then.

When all the scores that WoW and Guild Wars have received is averaged, Guild Wars comes out with a higher average score.  Averages work this way, you take the total sum of all the scores and divide it by the number of people who rated the games.

Hope that clears things up for you.

Graphic leaks?  What are graphic leaks?  I play the game all day long and I haven't seen a graphics leak.  Whatever that is.  Maybe you should put some calking on your video card???

Oh, and I like FFXI better than WoW.  So, here's one of us guys saying it.  I like the crafting and the team experience better than WoW's.  Oh, and I think the classes are cooler.

If the vistors of this site vote for a particular game over another, that's their choice and opinion. Don't take offense at it.

    GW is a fine game.

    Ico
Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.

  • Well first off anyone who thinks its at least a decent game will give it a much higher Value rating since its free.  That alone is enough to bump it up at least 0.2 points when everything else is equal.

Second, those who have taken the trouble to understand the class system and how to do good solo and team builds and pay attention to how the devs manage the various classes on updates know that GW's class balance and PvP is light years ahead of WoW.  The strategy involved in GW GvG matches is so far above WoW its just silly and the  kind of execution involved in being an excellent healer or mesmer is way more involved and challenging than anything in WoW.

People can dislike the PvE and that is fine but anyone who has done more than play the game 4 hours and quit understands just how much deeper team builds are in GW than they are in WoW.  Sure you can do real good with a generic Wa/Mo build in arenas but in GvG and the new factions large PvP instances team builds take on dimensions and complexities that require some pretty impressive execution and astute design.  WoW has nothing comparable.  WoW PvP is very one-dimensional compared to GW GvG.

Its funny how you guys say Guild War is boring and repetitive and the pvp is just the same thing over and over again because once you hit 60 isn't that what WoW is pvp over and over again. Raid over and over again in order to pvp at level 60. So it takes you less time to do it with Guild Wars and you don't pay a monthly fee hmm. I don't see much of the difference here both games are repetive one just costs you 50 bucks the other costs you way more per year and you gotta schedule your game time to raid. I can see how Guild Wars gets a better raiting.

    Haha! Nice.

Why does it matter to you OP? Does the rating that other people give it make it any less fun to play for you? What happens if other people don't like the same things that you do? Should they change their minds?

and for a lot of people the ratings do matter....a good portion of the population play wow because its the gaming fad right now....kind of like the GTA games.

I have not played WoW however my good friend and guildmate does. He has 3 level 60 characters all with full epic, whatever that means. He has been playing WoW for a couple years I think and GW for 1 year now. He is getting rid of his WoW account so he doesn't have to pay monthly to simply grind and raid, and he is commiting to invest additional time in GW. I realise he is only one person but he is extremely good at both games and when it came down to it the game content in GW was better. High level pvp is amazing and it is the only game where leveling up really doesn't matter, alot of people hate the instancing but it is my favorite aspect of the game. Instancing filters out hackers that would otherwise severely hinder your gameplay by attacking 300000 times per second. It also makes it so that the "ultimate farmer" isn't simply sitting on a high level monster spawn and taking the drops every 30 seconds preventing other people from even touching them. The pvp is great and it is actually rewarding, compared to simply fighting for the sake of fighting it allows you to unlock skills, which in turn are available for your PvE characters to buy from any skill trader. This also allows you to join in Hall of Heroes battles which involves amazing fun, high intensity battles, and for those skilled enough to claim it a celestial sigil, which isnt the worst thing to have in your inventory. Overall guildwars just makes more sense than WoW, which is why IMO it is rated higher.

GW will inherently be rated higher by more players than WoW because of its price structure. People who love WoW often also play GW, might as well if you own it, and will rate both fairly high. People who play a different game and GW will still rate GW high. Being a flat fee but still offering a fair amount of content will forver give GW and advantage unless they start issuing expansions for more than ~$50 a year  (total).

    Just the way it is.

Wow, some people really are stupid and have no common sense. I was referring to memory leaks because of graphical errors. I said graphic leaks because the graphics cause the leak in memory. I think someone with SSOOOOOO much experience would be able to tell the difference and use some common sense. This proves that you were just trying to be a smart alec and try to make me look like an idiot. Someone who can't put two and two together (especially one who plays the game) doesn't qualify to subjecting me to that treatment.

I had a graphics leak once.  You have to make sure to get that cleaned up fast.  You have no idea how hard it is to get graphics out of beige carpet.  And to the OP, heaven forbid that someone have a different opinion about WoW than you do.

Is it just me or do the words "graphic" and "leak" don't directly point to the outcome of "memory loss"? Ya...common sense my ass...

Hahaha "EQ2 has a higher rating WTF!?!?!!?" Oh man, grow up.  I also can't believe you said EQ2 has bad graphics and crappy PvP when defending a game like WoW, what an idiot.

How can someone be "jealous of WoW" you tool?  We aren't MMO devlopers and we have nothing to be jealous about, if we don't like it then by golly we don't like it.  Your precious golden WoW is infested with broken promises, a community filled with idiots, and a raid-oriented end game.  And no nothing in WoW is better than anything.  Except maybe shitholes like D&DO or SWG.

It made my day when DAoC rose above WoW.

"Time.." I chuckled "I hold no secret to time, though it's mystery puzzles me. Deny it's existence and lie to myself not with hopes of a quickened pace."

I would say it works like this, to most people WoW is the first MMORPG, so what we do is play until we reach 60 and get bored. When that happens, we sence a strange new feeling, wanting more of that online thing, but what, where, how...???

Then, we get on Google and search for sites with MMORPG thematic, find MMORPG.com, see that we can rate WoW, and because we got bored with it, we don't think very highly of it anymore so we don't give it  high rating.

Other then that there are WoW haters and people who played MMORPGS before WoW so they know it's nothing special.

But EVE, well, I guess it's ok if there is nothing better around?!

I like WoW and I enjoy the way it looks.  I don't play very often but it's good fun every now and then.  I also play EQ2 and I've come to like it a wee bit more than WoW, at least for now. (although I enjoy WoW's graphics more) I also beta tested EQ2 and suffered from that memory leak problem.  I didn't buy it when it released because it just wasn't fun back then.  After they fixed it up, added the solo content and released some of the expansions, I went back and it felt like a completely different game.  I play 4 or 5 times a week, usually for several hours at a time, and have not suffered anything more than some lag in Qeynos every now and then.  I no longer have the memory leak issues that caused me to have to reboot several times during a play session.  I think that issue must have been resolved at some point.
