Your All Nay Sayers-- EA/Mythic Could be a GOOD THING!!

I didnt know our community was so negative and so unbeleivably stupid at the same time...these are just a few quotes I took from the "EA buyout of Mythic" Post.

And, that about wraps it up for Mythic. Sad to see them sell out. But, I suppose it is to be expected. Nobody seems to want to take their own company to greatness anymore; they would rather sell out for the fast buck and the easy retirement. In a year's time, DAoC will be junk. And certainly don't expect any quality out of the Warhammer product.

YOUR A MORON

When has Mythic ever released completed content? Been there since the start, every expansion pack and patch goes off with trouble.

You dont know what your talking about

Bummer i was thinking of buying WAR too.

And why wouldnt you now? Do you honestly beleive that all mythic employees got fired? It could turn out to be a better game that what it would of been under mythic simply for more money coming into the game.

WAR will be great out the door but between buying expansions, booster packs, unique items and whatever other stunts EA will pull to wring the last dime out of the customer the experience will not only damage WAR but also MMO's for a long time to come.

Wow you guys can fortell the future now...impressive /sarcasm off

Grr...I won't buy EA trash again...scratch WAR off my list of to-buy
Glass Is always half full

EA is most likely going to ruin WAR, and DAoC is going to be sliced, diced & sent to the zapper...

so emo your making me SICK

Extremely bad news for the development of Warhammer.

And you know tihs because your a developer...or a programmer...or you work for EA? Thought so...

Time to cancel my DAOC account.

leave before you even KNOW WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN?

DAoC has always been a favorite of mine. Guess I will avoid anything Mythic for a couple of years.

I hate to say it...but seriously... CRY MORE

The biggest thing that bothers me about your responses is that your taking on a quitters attitude before anytihng has come to fruition. Lets all wait to see what happens and then comment for the better or the worse.

No one knows whats going to happen. For all anyone knows the extra money from EA could mean a better Warhammer, more advertisement, more promotion etc etc. As far as mythic employees leaving...?? Where did you get that from? You dont know the details of the contract.

After seeing that EA shutting down a bunch of other games.
I don't know how this would actually go.

Go verse yourself a bit in the history of EA and MMOGs and you'll understand why people have concerns.

I know people are nervous but GIVE IT A CHANCE.

IT could in all possibility turn out GREAT. There is one thing that Ive seen personally kill games. Not enough promotion and advertisement and the game tanks. DAOC imo was just as good as EQ but EQ kept there name out there, always saw advertisements in magazines and NEVER had I went to a video game shop where I couldnt find EQ. So at least with EA in the mix Warhammer will also be in the public eye to its fullest.

People are acting like EA bought out Mythic but then FIRED EVERYONE. Listen TO ME....that didnt happen. Do you really beleive that EA wants to get rid of all that talent with so much money on the line with Warhammer? Obviously EA likes the way Mythic has ran DAOC and has looked at there business plan--- WHY would they want to deviate?

I cringed also when I read the announcement but it could still turn out to be a good thing.
Im not ready to throw in my chips this early in the game.

"We at Mythic are very excited to be working with a company like Electronic Arts!"

    Six Months Later:

"Unfortunately, half our staff has resigned and formed a new studio. However, this will not impact the release of Warhammer Online, we've been informed by EA that we'll still be shipping it ontime. Note that the game will not be functional for at least 6 months after purchase, you're really just buying a box.

    Six Months Later:

"The problems with the release have been solved, and we are now proud to have a buggy, half-finished game sort-of completed four months after you paid for it!"

    Six Months Later:

"Due to inexplicably low subscription count, we are unfortunately closing Warhammer Online. Thank you for playing."

I'm sorry, but when has a corporate merger of this form in the MMO universe been a GOOD thing? I mean you have to see why people are freaking out about this.

It's like waiting in mouthwatering anticipation for a (said to be) AWESOME horror movie, just to find out a couple months before it comes out that the director decided to make it G rated instead of R to get a bigger audience in the theaters.

Trust me it's GOING to change things about the game, and probably wont be for the better.......

  • It could be a good thing EA has alot of resources they could bring to bear to get WAR out so that its highly competitive with WoW's BC.

But I have personally talked to former EA employees and heard many bad stories about EA.  Therefore it puts a pall on my excitement.

I hope Mythic can pull it off, but EA makes me very suspicious.

OP... We love to have faith, trust me we do.

But time after time after time we've seen mmo's go the way that some of us here at this website have predicted long in advance.

To everyone's surprise, there were some of us that predicted the then mighty Mourning would be crap when/if released. We got mocked. I predicted it and got mocked hard. Mourning released. Utter crap.

There were those of us that predicted long in advance that Dark and Light would be utter crap. And it is.

There were people on these boards long before World of Warcraft released that predicted that WoW would be the biggest selling mmo of all time. Look it at now.

There were many on these boards that played the Pre-Trammel Ultima Online. Before EA got its way with it. The differences between 1999 UO and 2006 UO are drastic for the worse.

We saw E&B and how EA ruined and closed it too soon.

Some of us might even despise EA for doing what they did with Madden football and buying all NFL game making rights, thus meaning no competition for Madden football for the next 5 years or some BS. Lord help us.

Yes, you are right, EA has money. And with that, they also have power and OWNERSHIP over Mythic now. Everytime you read about a "merger" between two companies, it actually means one of the companies bought the other one out. In this case, EA bought out Mythic. Now EA OWNS Mythic. Thus, the new name, EA Mythic or whatever.

DAoC will be completely pampered and tweaked until it is a total carebear POS game. Watch. Learn.

Warhammer Online will likely be taken in a completely different direction and yesterdays promised features will turn into tommorrows stream-lined crap.

My thoughts on this: EA saw the graphics of Warhammer and similarities to the looks of WoW. Naturally, being the greedy company that EA is (refer back to Madden NFL contract or shutting down E&B too early)... EA wants a piece of the WoW money pie. They want it more then anything. They could care less about loyal fans. They could care less about a quality game. They care only about the f'n $$$. I guess ya can't really blame them, but their greed is so great, it turns them good game ruiners. They trash a great game and turn into poop just so they can fit more people in a world or whatever (UO: Trammel expansion). EA will try and turn Warhammer into an almost replica WoW clone with better graphics. Watch. That's my prediction. Let time tell us all.

EA ruins games with their Extreme corporate greed. I used to call EA "Electronic Arts". Now I call EA an name much more appropriate: "Extreme Assholes".

    As one poster said,

At least they were not bought by SOE.

  • ValiumSummerValiumSummer Member Posts: 1,008
Warhammer was going to be everything that WoW wasn't.  Edgy, mature (in content) and dark.

I suspect EA saw Warhammer as an opportunity to get a "WoW" of thier own.

To become "WoW" Warhammer will have to be watered down and sugar coated.

    I hope I'm wrong.

Here's what I think will happen:

BEST CASE SCENARIO: EA will pump money into Mythic and specifically into WAR, in the hopes that the game will be the WoW killer.  If this happens -- if WAR gets even half the numbers WoW is getting --  Mythic continues on semi-independently, like Maxis for as long as WAR generates profits.  Even EA isn't greedy and stupid enough to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.  Don't get me wrong, EA is Evil with a capital E.  If Hitler, Stalin and Vlad the Impailer escaped from Hell and started a game company with money borrowed from Dick Chaney, that company would be less evil than EA.  But EA does love their dirty money, and they obviously believe that WAR is going to generate scads of it.

WORST CASE SCENARIO:  WAR is either delayed or sells relatively poorly - EA will tear Mythic limb from limb, swallow it in chunks and crap out the bone shards onto the dead, blasted earth --  like it did to Origin.  Of course, with Imperator canceled and DAoC on the decline, it's likely that Mythic would not have survived a bad WAR launch anyway.

Make no mistake, Mythic has made a deal with the devil.  But, in the end, this very well may be a good thing for Mythic and for WAR.  We shall see.

Wrong to become WOW Mythic, erm I mean EA would have to make 3 smash hits ala Starcraft, Diable, and Warcraft and get millions of people to play them. Once the have that huge fanbase they would need to wait about a few years and then realease a new game one in the MMORPG Universe so that there Huge fanbase would flood it like no tommorrow..

Maybe you people will understand one day that Blizzards fanbase is the reason why its sold so many copys.. And they got that Fanbase by producing games that were instant classics and smash hits.

No, but Will Wright is still with the company and he's making the games he want's to make.

Now don't get me wrong - I still think that, in the long run, this is a huge mistake for Mythic.  All I'm saying is that it's not yet a forgone conclusion.

The Warhammer fanbase is massive as well, maybe even bigger. It's just more an over-seas thing. Warhammer is the British Warcraft, with the English gruesome humor and violence to go with it.

Murais isn't talking about video games, where does he/she say that? The Warhammer fanbase is the model painting/fighting. Look at Games Workshop for what Warhammer actually is about.

Hmm EA or SOE. A lesser of two evils situation. Between either choice, I'd go with SOE to be honest. As serious as SOE screwed up Star Wars Galaxies, and that's an understatment, the damage they'd do verse what EA would do and has done (that's the most important thing to remember, what people are worried about EA doing, they've done before, more then once) is less.

Well one of the points I was trying to make was that Warhammer doesnt even have a video game out that has done well... Hell I dont even think they have a Video game out just Table top and things of that nature.  And if you think there are tens of Millions of people playing Warhammer's table top(like there are playing Blizzard games) around the world then your Delusional.

Im done time to take my own advice.. Im a blizzard fan boy as well so I loose automatically on this site.

This is sarcasm right? I mean seriously, after all Blizzcon was tiny compared to Warhammer related gatherings.

Well, there is Dawn of War, which is quite popular. But then again, it is WH40K.

Yes, but you were trying to prove Murais wrong, saying that the "fanbase" meant their "video game fanbase". And just FYI, they have MANY video games out, just not MMOs.

Warhammer 40K : Dawn of War

    Warhammer 40K : Chaos Gate

    Warhammer 40K : Dawn of War 2

Can't be bothered to link more, just Google it instead of guessing.
